Picked up car - was raped by wharfies!

I picked up my car today from the wharf. i was very excited but i knew that some stuff would be stolen. these are the things that were taken:

monster tacho with shift light.

razo pedals

front fog lights

when taking the tacho they even pulled out all the wiring that went into the dash so now i have a nice hole next to my steering wheel.

also the car had done 10ks since being cleared off the boat. i know it gets driven a little bit but 10ks is going to be a sh*t load of laps of that place!

i know that these are insignificant things but still they were mine and its just annoying.

on another note the car is running VERY rich and went through 1/4 tank in about 40ks. its also not very quick and there is something wrong when it hits boost. but these things will be fixed after i get it back from compliance.

was origanally going to change the trust front bar back to standard so that i can lower it more, but the exhaust is sitting really low to the ground so there goes that plan.

hopefully ill be out and about soon...

ooooooooo nice one!

damn wharfies.... u should be able to sue em for compensation on what theyve done to it... was it insured while it was being shipped? if so u should get all those bits back.

doesnt the insurance only cover the car for boat sinkage or something? i could be wrong, actually there are probably different forms of insurance now days for these things

akeenan - depends on insurance.

aybee - sucks about the gauges.. i would be more worried about them cutting laps tho. Lucky the car wasn''t running lean etc, and on old stale fuel too.

when i picked it up the fuel light was on, probably the only reason why they stopped driving it.

no it didnt have insurance cause geoff told me that you cant get it far car carrying ship. plus i think that it only covers loss of vehicle, sinking etc.

yeah it does suck about the gauges, not that i wanted the tacho but i would have liked to at least tried the shift lite before i pulled it out.

looks like the beast will be going to get tinted with the group deal, unless ive missed it already.

Make sure u do a full serive on the car, plugs, oil, oil filter, fuel filter, replace gearbox and diff oils also before u go floging it around.

Hey, are you getting the car complied under the new legislation?

How much does this cost and where are you getting it done?

Oh yeah what type of car is it? I assume it's a skyline.

mmm... definately go the FULL service before doing anything remotely stressing.

Got it done to mine when i got it and turns out the fuel filter was BROWN as. After oil change etc. etc. it was running that much nicer it was a different car.

Cause some have been sitting around for some months before getting here.

What docks did you go through? It all depends on who and what you know. I was on Patricks docks in Melb and my car was perfect! Untouched, it did cost me a little extra cash ($100) but hey, it was worth it

Oh also pretty much all cars picked up will have an empty tank as they will not let a car with a full tank on generaly for safty reasons, or so I have been told by various importers

i've heard of a few people getting the detachables taken off and sent over in boxes separate to the actual car.

worth a thought for others.

If any of the cars that i have sent had tellys or anything fancy...i take it out then stash it in th 1/4 panel or post it across....in regards to people driving yourcar...how sure are you of it???i dont think the guys that work there really have the time to drive the cars around...i mean if it was something special maybe even the i doubt it i doubt that anyone would have went out of there way to drive it...i mean its prob 1 of 20 skylines that were on that boat....i have shipped cars with full tanks...half and empty...it depends whats in it at the time of drop off

Long story... but the car was moved from osaka to kobe for container ship but then ****en NAB (refer to my "dont borrow from NAB" thread in here) took too long and i had to change it to a car ship and the buyer couldnt get back to it to be able to take the stuff out.

one good thing about the theiving wharfies is that they dont take stuff that will affect you driving it. eg, they left the boost gauge which was on the same mount as the tacho, plus left the turbo timer, boost controller and vpc.

they change all fluids at compliance if you get it done somewhere with a clue.

and i know several of the guys on the P&O docks in sydney that get plenty of time to cain the sphincter out of the imports when they take em off.

i dont know, maybe they were fooled by the 4 inch intake into the 2835R...

While you are doing the 1st service/compliance i would also change the timing belt.

Congratulations on your ride!

It is safer to transporta car with a full tank, as fuel vapours are more likely to blow than the fuel itself. Thats why at indoor car shows you must have a full tank of gas.
