Howdy,

My AC is giving me issues and I need to get it looked at. I've visited a few places and when I ask "have you worked on a r32 skyline before ?", the usual response is "ermm no, but we're willing to try" or "no, but its all the same..". From my experience thats usually means crazy labour costs/dodgy jobs/something breaks.

Anyone know a good place in Perth who can work on AC's in r32's ?

Cheers!

thanks for the quick reply, will track the mobile tech down. I think its a blocked drainage hose, i can see the hose coming out through the firewall in the engine bay and its pretty dry only a drop or two of water on it. Does anyone know a way of "unblocking" the hose without using a hoist?

when the car comes over from japan I thought they cut the a/c gas out because they can't ship the car with it... hazerdous substance? Surely cutting this out should have flushed the system out, and then when the car is here and a new gas bit plumed in it should just need refilling?

My wifes uncle refilled my gas (he does fridges and industrial a/c up north)... there is 2 connectors that need hooking up when refilling the gas... one is on the passenger side near the radiator support (where the factory air box is/would be), the other is just near the pipe running through the firewall... its just behind the rear turbo so its not a job for a car that has just been driven... needs a good cool down!

yeah they take the gas out when they coem over then re gas it when it comes to aust its like a 5 mins job not hard at all just need to know a fridgy :)

Im missing the gas thingy for my Cefiro? Im pretty sure everything else is inplace and in working condition.

Not that I want to hijack the thread but does anyone know if all the gas things are the same for all RB's?

If you can track down that mobile mechanic post his number up I might give him a call.

Are all R32 aircon stuff the same? Just wondering if I could utilise the flaps thing under the dash from the GTR? I get a short error for the PBR under the dash when I run diagnostics.

P.S. Sorry for the mini-hijack

Well took the car down to hyperdrive and they managed to unblock the drainage hose. I didnt get the mobile AC tech's number though coz it was unblocked and i didnt need it. If it gets blocked again, i will get the number and get it looked.. but for now i'll be a tight arse and save some $$$

I'm not saying it isn't true, but all new cars come over with gas, so what is wrong with s/h cars coming over with gas? unless it's just to get rid of R12.

I just got my r32 over, I signed a waiver that meant it should of still been gassed, but it was degassed anyway.

So I had no ice air con.

R12 is on older cars & is hard to come by, and anyone who has it will be charging thru the nose.

I got mine converted to new gas fittings, regassed etc for around $300.

(get em to put UV dye in to, so you can find leaks, if they exist)

New cars come over gassed because they aren't CFCs.

Well since the thread is back from the grave...

I think it is more to do with shipping dangerous goods... the gas is flamable, compressed and can cause an explosion if damaged so they de-gass it so it's no longer dangerous and it will then pass customs.

I know when I export anything I have to sign to say there are no dangerous goods inside, and if there are any gas products I need to specify the details.

    • Yep that's pretty much what I want to see. Racecars that look and sound like the Group A but with newer tech underneath to make them faster and safer. I'm sure there's enough VK-to-VN commodore, E30 BMWs and Foxbody mustangs shells around to make up a decent number of cars with hopefully a couple of sierras, rx7 and R31s in there too.
    • Contact Jessestreeter.com/Skevas Racing/JustJap for a new r34 rb gearbox or go a cd00# conversion. No point playing with unknown condition gearboxes.
    • Such a shame places like Amaroo Park have been redeveloped, smaller tracks always make for good racing. Cheers for sharing @PranK there's some good Lakeside video's too. Its so hard with older the cars as parts are so rare and everything was made for a particular chassis at that point in time. Even the V8 Supercar Blueprint era cars are all different between each chassis within a team as they learnt things and made improvements. The COTF cars between each Chassis builder is different too especially motor/oil systems/intakes. The Group A stuff is worth so much too especially chassis with good history. The only way to do it would be composite panels and similar engine drivelines to the original cars. Ford sierra running Focus RS driveline, Commodore running a short stroke LS/LT or a Falcon with coyote and a H Pattern dog box. Could use a standard ecu across all models with a Torque Map and DBW for parity which is not even used in Supercars currently. Hell a TCM is almost a full chassis car these days and the suspension is not even close to standard style in the front running cars.

    • Wish someone would start a racing series for Group A replica cars, a bit like Touring Car Masters but for 1985 onwards and not grandpa's falcon and/or Monaro. I know they race in some historic class but that's for original cars, no replicas allowed.
