Hey Guys,

Made up my mind the other day that i want to get a skyline........but which one???

I have $25000 to spend....Should I get an R32 GTR.....or R33 GTS for around $20000 and spend $5000 on engine/performance mods????

Which is going to be the better car at the end of the day???

No doubt the GTR is in a league of its own - specially the r32. But keep in mind that the running costs of a GTR is said to be much higher than that of the gtst. The guys/gals who own the r32 will be able to help you out better with that car.

R33 gts-t's are around 17k for a stock one at the moment (maybe less) - so it leaves you heaps of cash for mods. For around $5000 worth of mods for the r33 - you can probably expect around 180rwkws (maybe?).

Keep in mind that both cars tend to not like being stuck in traffic and are more at home at the track. You gotta ask if you will be spending time on the track/deca etc.

So imagine with the gtr - it would be like having the hottest woman in the world (with all the right assets), and not being able to do the nasty to her :mellow:.

Why not the R34 GT-T? It's a much better car when compared to the R34 and 33, and you should be able to get a decent one if you're not planning to mod it.

What advantages does the R34 GT-T have over the R33/R32......bearing in mind I want a car to take to the track and have a little fun in.....ie Drifting?

After owning all sorts of cars over the last 24 (i know i'm old) years from nitrous injected v8s to a morris marina (thanks grandad) once you've owned a GTR it will spoil you from owning anything else. My advise is to get the best GTR you can afford and get it maintained by someone who isn't interested in MAX POWER, unless you are filthy rich. Even one with 300 hp at wheels will put a huge grin on ya dial every time you drive it and it will be reliable and not expensive to own. Don't try to kill it and you wont. Get it thoroughly checked before handing over your hard earned. I've had mine for 4 years and i'm still like a kid at christmas when the garage door rolls up. Tragic I know. They are that good!!!!

The R32 GTR are not getting any youger specially the 89-91 sort of range, even if you get the engine rebulted all the other part will be near the end of its life span...where as a R33GTST S2 will be a much youger proposition and cheap as chips these days too....

But at the end of the day no point talking about GTR Vs GTST !!!..certainy with skyline fans....my suggesion is get another 3k and buy this r33 S3 GTR..... :mellow:

r34GTT has 206kws (2.5 ltr turbo), r33 gtst has 187kws (2.5 ltr turbo), r32 gtst 160kws (i think - 2.0 ltr turbo ??)

Torque wise as well, the GTT i think has better torque. Anyone else care to add more benefits/disadvantages? :mellow:

If you're just looking for power, the R32 GTR beats the R33 GTS-T and R34 GT-T hands down. But the reason why i would recommend the R34 is because it is a car with better handling, more safety features, higher resale value, better fuel economy and doesn't cost a bomb to maintain; it's still relatively new, so the parts aren't about to wear off anytime soon unless you trash it.

By the way, the R32 GTR is rated at 206kw as well (capped like the R34 due to restrictions), but it has much more potential if you plan to modify it.

I would suggest that you test drive all three cars and see which one you'll like.

i was in ur situation b4, i bought the 33 gtst due to the money i had at the time.. 1 year later i got a 32 gtr lol.. and when i think of it i shouldve went the gtr straight away because i spent money modding the 33 and then resold it for less then i bought the car! but neither cars i bought had anything wrong with them. so yeah not really much maintenance costs

^^^ I'd agree i did this and went from an R33 gts-t to a R33 gtr. The biggest problem with R32 gtr is their getting to that age where they have problems which can be both expensive and frustrating. If i had my time over again I'd save up and get skip my previous 2 cars and go straight to a gtr.

dont waste your money on a gts-t if you have 25,000. if you like the shape of the 32's get a nice clean gtr for about 20,000 and all you have to do is exhuast, boost, and power fc and u shud be making 250rwks. compare this to a gts-t and youd have to do a lot more to get closer to that power figure. plus with 4wd uve got better launches. for $25000 you can even source an older model r33 gtr. but thats if u prefer the shape of the 33. the car market if flooded with gts-t's. if u are keen on drifitng get something a bit lighter, perhaps a silvia. but yeh, GTR all the way man. only reason i have a gts-t is cos i didnt have 25,000 at the time. if i had waited and saved up all the money i spent on modifications, i cudve got a GTR by now. oh well, still goes hard.

you might think that, but the market dictates how much theyre worth. with the volume of importing of skylines, its natural that they fall. plus petrol prices and p-plate laws have made their prices fall even faster. im not saying that theyre not phenomenal cars, all im saying is that the prices have fallen badly. just because u might source one for $25,000, it dusnt mean that its a load of crap...its just a consequnce of the bad market. the same car cud have sold for 30,000+ not so long ago.

A $25k R32 GTR will have a whole bundle of things go wrong with soon after you hand over your hard earned.

It'll be great for a few weeks, but then small things will start going wrong. Then bigger things.

I'm speaking from 2nd hand experience though.

Maybe buy a $19k R32 GTR with a straight body, and a clean'ish interior. Then rebuild the engine.

Once you have experienced a good GTR then nothing else comes close.

And that is where the problem lies in that to get a good one you have to pay for it which in my case cost me nearly $40k for a R33 GTR V-Spec.

There are a lot of cheap GTR's going round and they are cheap for one reason only and that is that they have had a hard life and things are starting to go wrong.

Either pay more for a good one to start with or buy one with a straight body and expect to spend money on the mechanicals.

Test drive all 3 models (32 gtr, 33 gtst & gtr, 34 gtt) - from here go for the one that you feel will be good for your style of use (cruising or track or deca etc) - usually when u drive them you will know what to look for interms of problems (take a print of merli's check list)

Then look into either going via a dealer or private OR look at importing one. Importing will be cheaper but you are relying on pics and info from the importer (who in turn got it from the people in japan) - private and dealers you can actually drive it, see it in person. Private is usually cheaper than dealers, but no warranty. Do you need warranty - depends on the car and its condition - so set aside some cash for an inspection (both private and dealership).

    • Ok glad you clarified on the frenchy’s options , I was worried about if my oem hoses would fit the new compressor or not if I just bought the bracket/compressor kit ,  didn’t realize they also sold a larger full conversion kit. Hmm may just go oem in that case then to make it easy only because I plan to sell this car to upgrade to a 32 GTR or 34 GTT.
    • Right, here's a video of the basic operation at least.  This is what you can expect day to day when you turn the car on and it boots from standby.  The only thing from a media point of view I haven't gotten working is for it to autoplay plexamp when it turns on from standby (it works from cold boot) but that's more of a plexamp problem as it will autoplay other music players.  Also attached is my one stray cable.  It's part of the screen's wiring adapters but there's just nowhere for it to go in my car.  I've just now done a bit of research and found a matching port on a 2010-2014 head unit with BOSE.  Mine has no BOSE so that's that case pretty much closed I think.  Plugging in the Infiniti AC panel basically did nothing for me, so that's a dead end as well.  Next port of call is to mess with this CANBUS module and see what I can find from it.  I found this resource containing the DBC files for a 2010+ G37 : https://github.com/icecube45/Dash_InfinitiG37/blob/master/InfinitiG37.dbc I'll now have something to go from when I try to extract my CANBUS data so I can see if the HVAC Mode, Fan Speed, Temperature, etc. match and also the gear shifter position.  It's a pretty big assumption that it's just mismatched CAN signals but considering all the devices in the CAN network are talking to each other (AC can be fully adjusted just with no info on screen) it might be a safe one.  I will report back WhatsApp Video 2025-02-26 at 12.49.10.mp4

    • Sorry Duncan, I didn't get a notification for the replies.  Thanks for responding!  It's a full Android device, but does allow you to use CarPlay/AA as well.  This is the one I bought from NaviRS on AliExpress: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006368602668.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.111.59aa1802JDzQ0E - the 2K 8G-256G CAM variant but it seems to have gone up by £170 since I bought it!  My purchase was £307.14.   It's not the fastest thing in the world but performs perfectly adequately.  It stays on standby unless I disconnect the battery and let it power down, then it's just a fairly standard Android bootup time from cold.  The DSP Equaliser is very nice and made the standard stereo system sound pretty decent compared to the stock screen.  Perhaps I can take a video of it when I get a sec. It *allegedly* supports the reverse camera, but I'm yet to get that working.  It has options for reverse cam (a camera unit can be bought separately) or 360 cameras (also bought separately).  To be fair it doesn't seem to detect that the shifter was put into reverse but I'm working on a theory about this as well.  At the moment I'm going without which is a bit annoying considering the car is an absolute canal barge but so far I haven't caused any damage I'll grab a picture of the wire I'm missing later today when I can get outside.  My theory, by the by, is that not only is the head unit different, but the CANBUS network has different signals for the different years.  I think this because I have a spare AC panel from a newer Infiniti G37 (as opposed to my Nissan panel) which wouldn't control anything except the volume when I had it wired up with the stock system.  I'm going to throw it back in and see if the screen will respond to it.  I've just ordered an arduino CANBUS module so I can have a look at the signals going around the car and see if I can spot anything.  I'm thinking if I can work out what it's expecting vs what it's getting I might be able to translate and relay the signal back but so far just a theory anyway.     • As above, you did refill the coolant and burp the system before running it again didn't you?
