actually better tyres to make a difference

its one ting to ge your car to slide, anyone can do that

its about car control, better tyres allow you to get grip where needed

also drift isnt necessarily slow,

i think you should learn a bit about it before making claims

also whats with the slag out other car clubs

as a car enthusaist i think its lame and immature,

and sadly i see more of it in this club than others...

Rowdy

To the claim that most drifters think there d1 is bullshit. I know a fair few melbourne drifters and they are down to earth and really dont consider themselves top, it shows by the interest to practise. I know more people who have claimed to have done a "track day" that think they have the best track driving skills out!!

275s are rediculous and So are streched 195s. You need grip to drift, If you have a turbocharged car, you need some grip to drift safely and properly. I find the wider the tyre is, the more stable the car is sideways.

Your not gonna find narrow tyres with low profile. On stock rims, narrow tyres usually have a 55/60 profile which feels crap to drift on.

Good thinking if your trying to get your Gemini or Corolla sideways. Most Imports have 2-4 times the power of those cars.

You are really misinformed and have made a huge generalisation.

I hardly ever see many silvias drifting on the street. Most of them are well behaved and drive properly.

On the other hand, every time I see a R32 or R33 they drive like total tools at double the speed limit and try showing off. Every time no doubts about it. In traffic where theres danger to others.

+1 to both of yous! 80% of turbo import drivers are hoons! The other 20% i dont know why they bothered buying a car with power, beta off buy a lancer or excel! :)

Are you saying that you could drift better with 275mm wide semi comps compared to stretched 195mm wide hard old tyres in a r33 pressumably stockish r33.

Also if you need good rubber why do the drifters stretch 235mm tyres over 10inch rims and why do they sit the tyres on the roofs of buildings to let the go hard?

Your thoughts please....

The stretching of narrow tyres on wide rims are there to eliminate side wall flex! I run my rear 55 profile tyres on 50psi because of this!

& why expose tyres to the weather ie:sittin of the roof? The harder & dryer a tyre gets, the more smoke they produce & less wear because of the compound change!

Ever heard there's a time and place for that?

Of course not, your from NS, no really most people understand that right?

ToF your on NS.com as well, so what are you trying to be? An attention seeker, thats all.

The cops dont give you brownie points for trying to be mature on a forum.

Funny as a lot of you talk like angels yet have modified cars.

Why the big intercooler, boost controller, coilovers, boost gauge? What for? You cant tell me you dont punch it when you get on the street to try it out. Otherwise you might as well have kept the standard car if you had it for looks and if you were a dedicated track person you would have the car unregistered.

It sickens me about the amount of people here that are trying to be goodie goodies. When they are just hypocrits and drive hard anyway.

To those people I suggest buying a family car rather than a sports car. From what I remember, buying a sportscar meant you drive it like a sportscar. No wonder the older guys with tough cars think jap car drivers are pussys, its because there all becoming like that!!

Let whoever think whatever. Who gives a shit what other people think.

Driving a sports car doesn't mean you have to drive it like a sports car on the street. There are alot of people that drive normally on the street and leave the hard driving to club/track days.

Obviously everyone gives it a fang now and again, but forums are hardly the place to discuss that

Doesnt phase me if i ban you or not.

Grow up, and if you wanna argue and start fights with each other... go BACK to where you came from.

Thread cleaned and edited accordingly.

Understandably jump the gun.. the "excrement flinging" started from the NS bagging and now the NS guys are being made out as the aggressors.. not that I actually know who the NS guys are but anyway. It happens often and it annoys me.. thus I and probably everyone else bothered posting. You can sure see why the skyline forums have a reputation for arrogance.

It seems everyone has a case of of the doodies in VIC this week... can't we all be friends? :) And a severe case of PNS (Pet-Hate for Nissan Silvia) Yeah they drive cars that are missing 2 cylinders, but we're all part of the same family aren't we...?

I'm banished now aren't I? :P

There are many people on NS that drive skylines and vice versa with Silvias on SAU.

R31Nismoid is even on there - so how can you bag it when you are a part of it!!

We dont and never think its a free ride on here.

Id much rather the stupidty and harmlessness of those on NS than the arrogance of some people on here.

Just don't drift under the bridge. Good luck with it.

LOL ;) ..... :) Yeh what he said. Thats assuming you are a hack like me. If you can drive like everyone else in attendance the night i binned it then you will be ok

As for everything else being posted here? Chill ppl. Who gives a fark what other ppl want/do with their cars. If its for you cool, if not then cool.

The NS vs SAU thing???? Fark...is there really any difference? Both are car forums, with plenty of sweet cars, enthusiastic owners with the occasional sea gull.

LOL. It seems there is a bit of an image thing at play. I have rocked up to drift days in my car and the ppl are friendly and socialable. One guy came up and laughed at me for binning my car, accompanied by a cheap remark about my driving....whilst he was scoffing and trying to belittle my efforts i was still giggling about frying 3rd gear :w00t:

Ditto track days, you get the good and the bad...but both are mostly good ppl having loads if fun. I dont understand why ppl seem to like labels. Those that have done both, along with other forms of motorpsort know its a hoot to ring your cars neck anywhere. Fark even drag racing is a ball, especially if your one of those smart asses that runs 12.5s in his pretty basic R33.... :)

If you dont like doing anything on the track, you just like driving your rig....again, do what you enjoy.

...and i agree with you about shitty tyres.

If you dont have any grip you dont get anywhere too quick so you are going slower, you can get away with less power and its not so technique dependent. Im sure the good guys prefer good tyres...and the guy giving me shit was all too keen to tell me what i was doing wasnt drifting, it was oversteer etc. But who gives a fark, excuse me for not being experienced and ready to fly up to a corner and do whatever you have to do to get the thing sideways 20mtrs before a corner.

The thread starter sounds a bit like me in that he is starting out...so the low grip frying your tyres makes it pretty easy to learn how to control oversteer. Surely you need to be able to control oversteer before learning to slide the thing into a corner and mid corner?

...but the golden rule, you can learn a bit talking about it and running through it all in your head...but at the end of the day, go to the places posted earlier and give it a go.

If your car is pretty std just keep an eye on your engine temp and if that light comes on jsut back off and contunue to drive it at 40-50kms at light loads for a few minutes to get some airflow through it and temps back under control. Ive seen ppl who know what they are doing drift my car, so even though my car isnt set up for it i know it can do it...its just that i cant :)

    • My hold point for future mods is that I want a OEM detachable hard top first, but, finding one is a pain, MX5 Mania are looking for one for me, but, as hens teeth are more common, finding one in Australia is proving problematic  I can get a OEM one from overseas, hell, you can still get new ones in 'Merica, but, shipping is a absolute killer and I cannot justify the cost, or the risk of it being damaged during transport As for the aftermarket hardtops, whilst they do the job of being a hard top, and are fine for a track car, they don't seal well (read: leak like a sieve in the rain), and you need a plastic/poly rear window, plus they are a bolt in option only and not made to be easily removed I liked how the hard top on my NB could be fitted, and removed, by myself, in less than 5 minutes I know it sounds bad, but I'm waiting for someone to write off a car with one so I can swoop in on their pain, it will go to a good home though, so my guilt of this is tempered
    • I’ve got one on mine and it’s fine,
    • No, you don't want to plug the vacuum line, as that will turn that side of the booster into an air spring and probably make it feel worse. I'm not saying that the GTR master itself doesn't need a booster. I haven't paid attention to the GTR one to know what size it is cf the non-GTR ones. But when you think about it - they have to do the same job, which is to move a little slave piston a few mm to do what it is supposed to do, and that final action is the same on all the cars. So, it is very unlikely that the GTR MC is any different than the others, because it has the same pedal stroke and the same output requirement. The booster just makes it feel easier. I'd suggest you probably have an actual hydraulic problem. It's totally common on these old shitboxes.
