Having drama's with my radiator... bought the car with the current rad in it, its an r32 with RB20det etc etc, nothing outlandish at all. Somewhere along the lines someone has fitted this rad to it.

dont have a engine bay shot but basically the top rad hose crosses over under the cooler pipe and touches it... transferring all the heat in the process and the bottom rad crosses over and comes damn close to the crank pully.

its also been overheating on the track, so i dont think this rad is up to the job, mainly due to the top pipe location IMO, since its as thick if not thicker then a stock rad.

so anyway, i went to upgrade.. couldnt find a suitably priced stocker and several people told me to chuck a RB30 radiator in there, So i went and bought a good cond rad with top and bottom hose for 70 bucks.

now.. the bloody thing is too tall and the bonnet wont shut with it in the car, i was trail fitting it and the top and bottom hoses will fit perfectally but its too tall...

whats the go? do they fit with mods or not a chance in hell?

They certainly look like they will push air back out the front of the radiator. That can't be good!

Anyway, dunno about the VL radiator, but perhaps you could stretch the budget to JustJap's aluminium radiator? I think they're around 350, and they fit like a stocker. A mate of mine put one in his 32 GTR, and it was fine apart from a bit of radiator shroud that needed to be chopped.

as the guys have said, make sure the blades are correct and the wiring, with most thermo's such as davies craig, depending on whether its a push or pull application, you may need to reverse the polarity of the motor as well as the blades.

generally though, getting a OEM thermo with a good shroud will work better then those types of fans. (will depend on how much room you have as to what will fit)

the factory clutch fan and shroud will work better then anything however, maybe fit original parts back on for reliability.

forget the fan, its wired to suck air through the radiator. Thats not the problem in question.

It's hard to... it really looks like the blades are angled to push air back forards through the radiator. If you've wired it to run backwards, then I guess you'll get a little bit of suction, but nowhere near as much as it could make. :)

Combined with no shroud, it's only sucking air through a small area of the radiator.

In any case, I think a stock setup would work much better than what you have, or as mentioned, an aftermarket direct-fit or GTR type. :)

    • Tried them, they leaked. I also foolishly bought some random rubber ones that leaked too.  Genuine and not looked back.    As always though sample size of one, and I could have made a mistake installing them. 
    • Technically still manual process to set it first time though
    • Shit job but not hard. I'd use a piece of wood to knock the plastic lid open to avoid damaging it, use a vacuum to clean up the fuel sender lid also so crap doesn't fall in. I'd probably do pump and filter at the same time since you're already in there, I reused my OEM sock after a quick clean since the one provided wasn't long enough. Could also hardwire your pump if you feel inclined.

Sadly I've removed the pump about 75,000 times over the years. I don't know if you're a large lad or a smaller lad but my advice to you as someone who is 185cm is if you are my height or smaller, is to sit in the boot and take your time. Yes you can put the seal on. The seal goes over the white thing/lid (you will see how it 'slots' in) then the whole assembly presses into the tank. then you screw the lock ring on. I spent so much time doing things the wrong way by trying to mount the seal into the tank first, then putting the white fuel hat on in the space provided. Put it together first then it'll all go in. But seriously be careful about removing the hoses AND where the removal tool is moving relative to the plastic pipes coming out of the lid when you've removed it. IT IS BRITTLE So brittle in fact I have two spare lids, and would recommend buying a spare and having it handy before attempting to do this. You may need to/strongly recommend you re-use your OEM fuel sock or use the one supplied with a length of hose so it sits at the stock height.
    • The tension is automatic....if you follow the installation instructions Self adjusting tensioners are used when the chain/belt is expected to stretch during it's service life, but the downside is the tensioner itself can fail and cause a problem, while the RB system is locked once it is installed and doesn't have that risk
