bad bad bad!!

is it from the radiator? or from the block?? If it is from the block it could be a busted head gasket and its going to cost big $$$ If you continue to drive it you will warp or crack the head resulting in even bigger $$$

If you are lucky.. it is just busted radiator, or split radiator hose. Not that you should be driving it in this condition, but pop the bonnet.. you should see steam shooting out from somewhere - which will narrow it down. If you are lucky it will just be a hose.

My recommendation is not to drive the car at all until you can work out the problem. It most likely is quite serious.

Temperature problems can be FATAL to an engine..especially a modern engine.

got your PM pred and thankyou for your help... damn, now im shitting my pants, don't know where exactly it is leaking.. i looked under the car and it has the black shield covering under it so i couldn't tell whether it is the hose, or the block but it is defintely 100% coolant(green liquid). Just went down to the local mobil petrol station and brought some radiator stop leak treatment bottle.. going to add it and hope it helps.. :D:(

Check the hoses, or remove the cover. Just follow the hoses down to where they end like the bottom one see if there is any fluid leaking. Best Bet is jack it up and take the cover off. I could be the water pump (how many k's) some of them go early before 100k. Or could be a cracked radiator as suggested above. (which is alot less common).

I'll put money on it being your water pump. Check the water pump, there is an inspection hole that will allow coolant to slowly leak when the pump seals shit themselves (telling you it's time to replace the pump). With the undertray in place you'll never be able to pin-point the source of the leak. The tray comes off easily.

If the pump is the cause you're up for a new one, & you may as well replace the timing belt while you're there. You need to take the same bits off - so why do it twice?

New pump from Nissan (same as RB30 VL pump) - $90-100

Timing belt - $80-90

Labour - ~$150 (dunno' exactly on this one?)

I very much doubt it'll be a major problem, so don't stress too much :)

???? so you put water instead of coolant in the alternator? i followed a black hose which goes to a white bottle(the backup bottle) which labels coolant.

Checkout the attached Picture:

you lucky bastard :D with the temp that hot ur lucky nothing blew

mine ran hot once and blew the seals on the plastic radiator end tanks - goodbye radiator

the water pump is a c*** to get off cos of the crank pulley bolt. you will more than likely need a rattle gun to get this off

the water pump may not be dead, it my just be the seal, in which case pull the pump off, put new sealant around it (doesnt use a gasket) and put it back together

you can drive around with a leak BUT make sure u keep the system topped up

if it starts sucking air or depressurises it will overheat again and u may not be so lucky

take it to a mechanic and there are pressure tests you can do on the radiator so check for a leak/crack. you can also run a test to see if there are exh gases in the system (leaking head gasket) so you will be able to pin-point the problem

just finally, cooling systems are ****s to work on and fix, if youre going to repair it make sure u do it right cos its the kind of thing which if not done properly will cause alot of headaches

I would say this is invaluable advice.

Our pumps are cheap which is good.

You want to do pump, timing and accessories belts at once to save labour.

$150 for labour is damn cheap though.

I paid $350ish (think it was 350? Certainly under 400) for a new genuine Nissan w/pump & timing belt. Both installed. Thanks Vince (Rigoli).

I didn't want to take any chances so I got them both done. That way I knew they were new :)

Thanks for your detailed info dude.. really needed it...yep. same as the RB30 VL pump.. what hole are you refering to which you can tell the water pump shit itself?.. i couldn't seem to find it.. is it near the fan belt?

    • I mean the other day I had to walk someone through diagnosing why their timing belt was walking off the cam gears. At least one of the issues was a bent tensioner stud. Local mechanics have found runout on the CAS mechanism causing weird failures. I'm also no saint here I've documented some of the things I've had to learn the hard way. Something I discovered recently is that my CA emissions catalytic converters weren't even welded correctly to align the downpipe to the main cat and they tossed the support bracket that goes from the transfer case to the downpipe to support everything there. I spend a lot of time chasing down these decidedly unsexy problems and the net effect is it feels like I never actually get to the original objective (flex fuel, VCAM, oil control, cooling, etc).
