Latest news this morning (2UE) overnight street racing at Chullora Magna and Skyline. Skyline managed to get away while "P" plater in Magna was cought racing 110 k's with expired licence :ninja: . I hope no one from here would do something like that. :) ?

Anybody knows more?

Didn't we have Jackass talking about Magna last week?

The thing i wanna know is....

IF a Skyline driver was to street race...(which is a bad thing), Why would he/she bother racing...

(1) a Magna

(2) A P Plater.

Its a waste of effort. Think of it this way... Is the amount of Petrol (cash spent on the petrol) wasted on this pointless race worth the 'thrill'? You spent hard earned dollars on the petrol, and fuel prices aint getting any cheaper. The race is already over before it even started. Keep it on the track ppl. :)

Like you dont give it a splurt every now and then soul. We all do. :)

But your right? Magna? P Plater? Nothing but tools. Get those idiots wanting a go every day.

Im not saying that i dont engage in a bit of spirited driving now and then. :ninja:. Foot down up to 60km/h then

stay at the limit. Well, not really foot down. Just accelerate quicker than everyone else.

But the only time i go over 100km/h is on the m5/m7/motorways/freeways etc etc.

yep well take me for an example lost license for 1 year disqualified for street racing..

but my so called race was my mate in his old battered vl!!!

the cops watched me drive down a coldisack by mistake .. my mate following me just trying to get to maccas at 12 at night..

stopped at the end (industrial area) nothing around no street lights...

pulled up nex ta my mate .. and then i go ill go first..

he accellerated in his battered vl being a smart ass

so i booted it up to 60 km p /h in a 50 zone.. with cops watching.. me on wrong side of the road just overtaking him ...

the street was a dead end no lights no cars no people!

he called it street racing.

towed my car to enfield impound...

impounded it for 3 months

now i am 9 months in to my license loss i get it back feb 17th...

i since sold my last 33 which was impounded and have just bought a new one and am happy to b bak in da game!... lol

you dont understand how pissed off i was..

wrongly accused yet couldnt plead innocent cos no point i already have a bad driving record..

thats my story of the day! enjoy

So why have a 50km/hr zone then if it is not a road? Why were you driving on the wrong side of the road?

:ninja:

Why not take the car to a track or wsid if you want to "race"

i didnt say its not a road dude.. i was saying i got charged with street racing in a dead end and it was a 100 metres long with a radarless cop watching me... i took a wrong turn turned around stopped spoke to my mate for a bit then hit it past him in 1st to get ahead.

in an industrial back street no lights nothing around...

what type of race is 100 metres long ?

racing at 10km above speed limit?

no spectators!

no start / finish to the race..

just bullshit to be given a fine like that...

the cop made a big ass scene got 6 cops cars there ... Seargent Scott Willis ill never forget that 1 .. cnt wait till he pulls me up in feb... :-P

yeah steveo that shit - feel for ya

my mate got done the other night (did a burnout at a set of traffic lights) in a magna too - haha

the burnout was obviously not the right thing to do (but since it was just a megagna it wasn't that crazy)

the cop went of his head tho - blabla dangerous driving - blabla dont care if you kill yourself but what about the other motorists on the road bla bla (it was night time and we had noone next to us) - and being a fwd it was more controlled than when i drive my skyline safety in wet - lol - ah well!

anyways - more to the point - good to hear the skyline won! :ninja:

lol, actually in my experience of the last few months petrol prices have dropped from ~$1.50/l to $1.09/l.

We all know how you are getting these cheap petrol prices Baron :ninja:

Yeah but remember the days when prices were like 99c/L or even 50c/L or even 20c/L?

That was cheap fuel.

haha yer.. poo happens!

lol

i got done for that too ... did a u turn one night and went hmmmmmm yep! floored it ... and just kicked the ass out a lil bit.

it was hard to see though cos i got 15 percent tints now. lmao... took a wile for me to stop...

thing was though he only heard the burnout as he was still coming over a hill..

me stupidly said that i did do it... cos i thought he saw me...

all good ! feb 17th get it back.. then its grandma driving for me!

although i have to start my green ps agen.. and restricted to 1 psnger and non turbo!

but i got out of the non turbo part bahahaha no way would i ever be on a road without ma 33 T.

You must be old..

yeah grand old age of 26.

I also remember when a play on the arcade machines cost 20c

Big Macs were twice the size they are now and they cost less.

No such thing as green P's

Dad drank Fosters.

Houses were cheap to buy.

Cops where cops and where out to catch the the real bad guys. None of this revenue raising bull.

Bob Hawk for Prime Minister!

They were the good old days.

With regards to the the restrictions on P platers (limiting passengers). What is a mother of 3 thats on her red P's going to do when her husbands at work and she needs to take her kid to the doctor?

Or a young P plater living with his 2 elderly grandparents that needs to drive them to the hospital in an emergency? Ambulance? have you ever recieved a bill to have them come out and check you over? Last time it cost my GF $250 to have them come out and check her over cos she was attacked by a deranged irate customer. Community buses and taxis and hospital shuttle buses are slow.

I don't think its the answer. This just means that they are going to kill less ppl in the car if they get into a bad crash.

I can only remember petrol in the 70c range.

BTW Stevo you are right on the edge of what appropriate on here. Saying that you will throw a beer bottle at the head of a cop is actually something that could land you in court so obviously we don't condone it here.

Edit your post and have a think about everything you've written in this thread, as well what you might write after now.

If you don't take this friednly warning on board I'll give you a real one. :)

bad luck steveo_r33

especially in a dead st with no one around, man he must have had a bad day.

yeh they can be a$$holes at times..........

i had a D follow me for about 10min

punk pulled me ova

let me off with a warning cus he couldnt fine me as he aint a road cop

phewwww

but yehh no point in speeding on normal street roads, not worth the risk in all factors...

    • First up, I wouldn't use PID straight up for boost control. There's also other control techniques that can be implemented. And as I said, and you keep missing the point. It's not the ONE thing, it's the wrapping it up together with everything else in the one system that starts to unravel the problem. It's why there are people who can work in a certain field as a generalist, IE a IT person, and then there are specialists. IE, an SQL database specialist. Sure the IT person can build and run a database, and it'll work, however theyll likely never be as good as a specialist.   So, as said, it's not as simple as you're thinking. And yes, there's a limit to the number of everything's in MCUs, and they run out far to freaking fast when you're designing a complex system, which means you have to make compromises. Add to that, you'll have a limited team working on it, so fixing / tweaking some features means some features are a higher priority than others. Add to that, someone might fix a problem around a certain unrelated feature, and that change due to other complexities in the system design, can now cause a new, unforseen bug in something else.   The whole thing is, as said, sometimes split systems can work as good, and if not better. Plus when there's no need to spend $4k on an all in one solution, to meet the needs of a $200 system, maybe don't just spout off things others have said / you've read. There's a lot of misinformation on the internet, including in translated service manuals, and data sheets. Going and doing, so that you know, is better than stating something you read. Stating something that has been read, is about as useful as an engineering graduate, as all they know is what they've read. And trust me, nearly every engineering graduate is useless in the real world. And add to that, if you don't know this stuff, and just have an opinion, maybe accept what people with experience are telling you as information, and don't keep reciting the exact same thing over and over in response.
    • How complicated is PID boost control? To me it really doesn't seem that difficult. I'm not disputing the core assertion (specialization can be better than general purpose solutions), I'm just saying we're 30+ years removed from the days when transistor budgets were in the thousands and we had to hem and haw about whether there's enough ECC DRAM or enough clock cycles or the interrupt handler can respond fast enough to handle another task. I really struggle to see how a Greddy Profec or an HKS EVC7 or whatever else is somehow a far superior solution to what you get in a Haltech Nexus/Elite ECU. I don't see OEMs spending time on dedicated boost control modules in any car I've ever touched. Is there value to separating out a motor controller or engine controller vs an infotainment module? Of course, those are two completely different tasks with highly divergent requirements. The reason why I cite data sheets, service manuals, etc is because as you have clearly suggested I don't know what I'm doing, can't learn how to do anything correctly, and have never actually done anything myself. So when I do offer advice to people I like to use sources that are not just based off of taking my word for it and can be independently verified by others so it's not just my misinterpretation of a primary source.
    • That's awesome, well done! Love all these older Datsun / Nissans so rare now
    • As I said, there's trade offs to jamming EVERYTHING in. Timing, resources etc, being the huge ones. Calling out the factory ECU has nothing to do with it, as it doesn't do any form of fancy boost control. It's all open loop boost control. You mention the Haltech Nexus, that's effectively two separate devices jammed into one box. What you quote about it, is proof for that. So now you've lost flexibility as a product too...   A product designed to do one thing really well, will always beat other products doing multiple things. Also, I wouldn't knock COTS stuff, you'd be surprised how many things are using it, that you're probably totally in love with As for the SpaceX comment that we're working directly with them, it's about the type of stuff we're doing. We're doing design work, and breaking world firsts. If you can't understand that I have real world hands on experience, including in very modern tech, and actually understand this stuff, then to avoid useless debates where you just won't accept fact and experience, from here on, it seems you'd be be happy I (and possibly anyone with knowledge really) not reply to your questions, or input, no matter how much help you could be given to help you, or let you learn. It seems you're happy reading your data sheets, factory service manuals, and only want people to reinforce your thoughts and points of view.
    • I don't really understand because clearly it's possible. The factory ECU is running on like a 4 MHz 16-bit processor. Modern GDI ECUs have like 200 MHz superscalar cores with floating point units too. The Haltech Nexus has two 240 MHz CPU cores. The Elite 2500 is a single 80 MHz core. Surely 20x the compute means adding some PID boost control logic isn't that complicated. I'm not saying clock speed is everything, but the requirements to add boost control to a port injection 6 cylinder ECU are really not that difficult. More I/O, more interrupt handlers, more working memory, etc isn't that crazy to figure out. SpaceX if anything shows just how far you can get arguably doing things the "wrong" way, ie x86 COTS running C++ on Linux. That is about as far away from the "correct" architecture as it gets for a real time system, but it works anyways.
