My recipe for a quick car on a $25k budget

A nice R32 GTS-T for about $13-15k

then spend the rest on:

RB30DET

aftermarket turbo/intercooler/piping/cold air

RB25 Gearbox

clutch + suspension upgrade

decent tyres

If you've got anything left, which depends how far you want to go with those things, then you can look at other mods/accessories.

A reliable powerful car costs money, and it's pretty hard to get there on a $25k budget, unless you buy a car that's already modified, and then you run the gauntlet with reliability.

Also, beware of the late model commodore and falcon - the LS1 and the XR6T are easy to get power out of for a little money, and there are a few cars here in SA with big dollar builds that can run some pretty serious numbers.

All in all, have fun with your car.

Keep it safe - we'd hate to hear of anything bad happening to you.

i daresay the 33 would be faster. that extra 500cc's has to count for something.

yeah, a 2WD is going to be slower off the mark than an AWD, but they can be more fun

Hey Deluxe i see the mods ur car has got and its good for 230kw. Have u ever done a 1/4mile? whats it go lik from a standing start? and how much did the mods cost u?

No i havn't done a 1/4 mile YET! I do plan to when we get our track back........

As for from a standing start, i have 235/40/18 streched on 9.5 inch rims on the back, so im really not getting the rubber i should to the ground, so it does loose traction! as for the mods, half of them were thee when i bought it! if you can find a 33 with pod, exhaust, Fornt Mount Cooler and Power FC you'll be on a good thing! then you will need to spend a little more on Hiflow, fuel Pump, and AFM and you'll be laughing!

There are some nice cars going at reasonable prices in the eastern states, maybe check www.carsales.com.au or something!

Just don't rush into anything that "could" turn pear shaped for you!

EDIT: Oh yeh the 32 v 33 thing! 33 may have an extra 500cc, BUT they also have some extra KG's also, so the power to weight would be pretty even id say!

To be totally honest what im looking for is a car that could blow away 90% of the other cars on the road. Im not going to be dragging it down at a strip just a quick burst from the lights. And i want something that will beat most other imports and KILL new falcon and commadore v8s
Feel free guys to talk to me lik im an idiot cos when it comes to these kinda cars i am!

I have $20,000 to spend on the car, a couple thousand to throw at some mods.

What car would you buy and what mods would you do to it, to make it the quickest it possiably can be? all roughly in my budget

Given your budget & intended use for the car a mildly modified WRX would be more than adequate; or a GTS-4 with nitrous  ...just don't be blowing the welds off the intake :O

Also, as the joke goes whats the difference between a 300kw Supra & a 600kw one??...Nothing they're still both 11sec cars :P

Haha explain the supra joke!!! haha

Makes you wonder why the RB26DETT never got variable valve timing when you look at those torque figures.

450 Nm @ 3600 RPM vs. 390 Nm @ 4400 RPM

There's more than just 400cc extra displacement at play there.

Engine torque figures are always misleading. The 2JZ has a redline of 6800rpm if i remember correctly, whereas the RB26 has a redline of 8000rpm, so this allows for the RB26 to have THEORETICALLY 18% shorter gears, which gives 18% more torque at the wheels, where it matters. The 2JZ has 15% more torque at the engine, so theoretically with the right gear ratios, RB26 has more torque at the wheels.

But all this is pretty simplified stuff, the 2JZ still makes the torque earlier and I also believe that VVT would help the RB26 a lot.

But yeah, addressing the original question, if your main purpose is for straight line, go the supra. Would probably have to say they look better too, another thing I guess you would want for the streets.

Personally I think you can ask as many questions as you like on here, but until you check out & drive the cars for yourself (yes they'll be different with mods, but things can only change so much), you're never gonna know what you really want.

Also figure out what requirements you have for the car. I came up with a fairly big list which included:

-6 cylinders (had a 4 & wasn't satisfied with the torque, but didn't want the heavy front end that a V8 gives)

-Rear or all wheel drive

-Coupe preferred as I don't need to carry people too far or often.

-Clearance to get up a steep driveway (this eliminated Supras & most modded Skylines or anything else for that matter)

-Sharp handling (take Soarers off the list, too heavy to be nimble)

-Able to carry something reasonable in the boot (it was to be my every day car, also eliminated Supras)

-Drivers Airbag, minumum (ruled out R32's, also the early 1's I believe don't even have a side intrusion beams, no go for me)

-Good condition & low kays (not a lot wrong with mine, but still stuff to be fixed even after 2 years)

-Reliability & availability of parts. (Some Toyota's can be a real bitch to get parts for)

I think you may get the picture.

Make your own list of stuff up, go check a few different cars out & see how satisfied you are with each. The less you are satisfied with something the harder it will be to sought out later.

My $2 worth

shape looks nice from the outside...aerodynamic, sleek and still turn heads but the interior isnt as flash

cept for the electric drivers seat

i had a supra before :P

im not sure if some1 has already mention this, but supra TT works a bit different to GTRs, turbos are sequential, 1 kick in at low revs and the 2nd turbo at a higher rev (to avoid turbo lag)...so u dont really feel the acceleration as much. Whereas the GTRs @ 3500...boom, bang...gone!

imo, for a budget of $25k, i'd get a 33 GTR, least they're a bit newer compared to the 32s

:D

do u want a pretty car or a tough car?

GTR's presence on the road is awsome, everytime i see a clean GTR like HOSTILE's, i f**king cream myself, so tough. Ive seen some nice supras but overall im not a fan, i dont like the look of them, to showy, i prefer the tough look of the earlier model moreso.

oh yeh and performance n shit aswell

you gotta realize that there are some awesome supras out there - most are owned by kids though, and these kids rice the NA's up heaps. Personally, I dont mind either of the twin turbos (supras or gtrs). GTRS will def be practical. and yeah for 25 g, you can get a 95 (maybe 96 gtr if its being imported from japan). for 25 grand you can get a 93 or 94 supra twin turbo (so about a year old) - however I did see a 97 blue supra twin turbo on j-spec just recently.

In my opinion, if your going for a supra go the 96+ model as they are updates. Same with the skyline - 96+. If you are only going to use it as a road car, get an NA supra or a r33 gtst series 2 (imho). But remember, as i always tell people, these cars are more at home on the track - so be careful with the right foot....

not to be rude mate, but any high powered rwd is going to be hard to drive. U keep asking which one is faster, well it all depends on driver ability. Why do u have in ur sig that u own a gtr and vette? do u?

Anyway if u want a all round car, ie hills track rags, get a 32 gt4

Drags, get supra if u can afford it or R33 gtst great car!
