Hi,

I am having issues with my shifter/gearbox, my problem started on monday, apparrently sometimes i cannot get it into reverse *thats right REVERSE* all the other gears are fine, i have a short shifter currently installed on my car which was already on when i bought the car, i heard some negaative things about short shifters, but mine has been good since. I have had my gearbox fluids changed about 1 year ago. I will be draining and filling up the gearbox with some redline lightweight shockproof gear oil over the weekend hope this may solve the issue.

Any idea what could be the issue??

Cheers

Tommy

Try put it into fourth gear and then pull the lever towards your body while in fourth and then slide into reverse while pulling towards your body still. Hope you can actually understand what i'm saying here. I have that problem in my car.

Nah man, first is fine..

Funny thing tho, once i get reverse workin via 4 gear method as what was stated by jantolis, I drive for abit and when I put it in 5th gear it gets stuck. I then force in back into Neutral and after doing that I would loose my reverse gear...when i need to reverse I would have to re do the 4 gear method lol...

Gearbox or clutch... ?? :P

Its not the shifter and I put some redline shockproof oil into too...

there's some adjustment to be had in the clutch at the top of the pedal. Try screwing it a bit more so it drives the shaft thru the firewall a bit more. I had a similar problem ages ago after getting a new clutch. Adjusted and sorted the issue.

It may be the reverse lockout spring. It's sorta common. Happened to me about a year ago and a few other guys since.

Try searching for "reverse lockout". I have a pic from FAST if you think it might help.

It's a cheap fix. You can slide the gearbox back a little and reach it from under the car - you don't need to drop the whole thing.

Like Cowie said - if it's just the spring, You can get the assembly out the side of the box. If it's something more mangled, U might have to open up the top of where the shifter goes in.. . . .

There's 4 regular bolts, and 2 pain in the ass Torx-Head bolts to get the shifter cover off the top of the extension housing. If you unbolt the X-Member and drop the back of the gearbox a lil' with a jack, You might get access to it all. I'll take a pic tonight if I remember, while I'm putting My 'box back in.

Of course - You do know that there's no Synchro on Reverse, right?? ? ? If the dog-teeth are lined up wrong, U won't get it into Reverse. Putting it into 1st and driving forward a few millimetres generally sorts it out. - Cheers !
