Haha - it's only going to be sold if the right buyer comes along. I'll only be selling it if I can get what I want for it - and I'll be getting something to replace it don't worry about that.

Had a guy look at it today though that owns 13 cars including 2 x porsches and drives a ferrari stradale as his daily driver that's interested in it for a Targa Car so we'll see what comes of that.

Thought it would be like that, see if you get an offer if so sell it if not keep it.

But didn't think your car would be targa spec? isn't it really strict? ie stock everything pretty much?

If you think Jim Richards Porsches have been stock you're dreaming.

From what I can gather Targa is about cheating as mcuh as you possibly can. As I was once told by a well known Tarmac Rally Icon in Australia "internal engine mods are fee". So basically cheat with everything out of sight or easy access.

For my car other than the obvious cage the only real things needed to change are intercooler, exhaust and airbox. And according to him thats mainly for Targa Tas as events like Buller, Lake Mountain and Targa West are a little more forgiving. Those events are more interested in people trying to run with things like carbon fibre doors *cough - Jeff Beaumont - cough*

The saddest part would be if this guy is keen is that he'll be painting it yellow! But he's also looking at a Black NUR thats in the country. I'll know by next weekend.

Congrats on kiddie #2!!

Although it would be sad to see the GTR go, we all know you're a little over it and want to defect over to Team Cheater.

Your car really is in a class of it's own and is awesome at everything it does.

Good luck with the sale (if he wants it). Now it's time for the time wasters to call :P

Ahhhh but porches are meant to win targa. They are allowed to cheat... but they don't want the silly Datsuns winning, hence why they make the regulations strict... or so i've heard :)

I even thought they have to run standard sized wheels and brakes?

Brakes are free. You can also go upto 2" bigger in rim diameter - but rim width has to remain standard.

So if the R34 rims are 18 x 9 you could technically run 20 x 9 rims - but good luck finding tyres to fit them. What he can't do however is run the 18 x 9.5 LMGT4's that are on the car now because they are technically widder.

I say keep it!

If you buy an EVO, James and I have no chance of beating you @ Deca! :)

heheheh.

Sif you could beat me anyways.

Remember - I design the events so I'll make them GT-R friendly. :)

I second that based on how tight that semi circle of cones was at the November DECA! Exploiting the Evo's poor turning circle!

I couldnt even get a clean handbrake turn in there either :)

No - thats just a talent problem :)

That was definitely an EVO event given I was 1.5s fast in James car than I was in my car in that one run.

As one of the privilledge few to drive this car in anger I can honestly say it is in a league of it's own.

It's impossible to explain how quickly things happen in this car. When you come up to a corner it all happens way faster than my car. It is an animal. It's the only car I have ever driven that I couldn't pick up how to drive it fast straight away.

I say don't sell it, cause it will become a bananna in more ways than one (wraped round a tree + team yellow)

If you get an EVO i'm gonna have to beat you more often!

I didnt realise you drove that one, would have paid more attention had I known.

**Waits for the return of car and tries to find somewhere to find talent**

O shit, now i really need you to keep the GTR so the events stay GTR friendly, and don't switch to EVO friendly

I was going to add a "DONT BUY SNOWYS CAR" to my sig, but thought that may end up being a bit to negative in case someone took it serious.

Honestly I've been driving it around all weekend and today and am having serious 2nd thoughts. Especially after my fang at lunch time today. It was feeling really sweet now that the Autronic tune is just about sorted.

*sigh* - it's all so hard.

too much time and effort spent on that car to have someone paint it yellow!

will you have the cash flow to keep campaigning the GTR? one thing to be able to afford to keep it, another again to afford to race it (as you know hehe)

what ever you do just say no to drugs... and Evo's ... or is that yes to drugs and no to Evo's...

    • Well, hydraulic lifters will get noisy if they are dirty/fouled in some way, and exactly how that manifests will depend on exactly what schmutz is where. There is a procedure on here somewhere for dismantling and soaking/cleaning them. Replacing them with new is about 50% of the work and about 5% of the money!
    • Thanks for the reply @GTSBoy this is is a hydraulic lifter engine. Yea right i did not realise the lifters were supposed to be compressible while installed. I could push them down but i had to lean almost my while body weight on them.  I have never heard of a lifter/ lifters ticking only at hot idle and getting worse the hotter it gets. I have owned a few jdm cars with noisy lifters. This noise is slightly more subtle, it is more of a sharp gentle metalic tic than the solid and more loud tapping I've heard on lifters. I have used a metal rod, alloy tube, hose and stethoscope and could not find the source of the tick. But it appears to be loudest on the actual engine block behind the exhaust cam gear and next to the oil filter. I had mate (40 year old mechanic) go over it with me and he couldn't find it either..  Could it be a cam seal issue of some sort?  Cheers
    • This seems problematic and unlikely at the same time. Vanilla RB2Xs have hydraulic lifters. They do have "zero" clearance, but only when running with oil pressure inside them. When not running, you should be able to compress them and obtain heaps of clearance. RB26s and Neos have solid lifters. They should have ~0.3mm and ~0.5mm on the inlet and exhaust respectively. If they have zero clearance then bad things are happening. With nothing else being wrong, it would mean that the valves would be held slightly (ever so slightly) open when they are supposed to be closed and it should have all sorts of problems when running, caused by leakage in/out through the valves. Or, zero clearance can indicate severe valve seat recession. None of it is good. Have you used a piece of hose as a stethoscope to try to localise the noise?
    • Sorry for reviving an old post, but I'm having the same hot idle tick issue. Did anyone ever find out what it was?  I have checked/ replaced Injectors Coils checked Lifter clerance (is at zero) Checked Cam lobes Replaced exhaust gasket and studs Would appreciate any advice this is driving me nuts
