We'll know tomorrow who the champion is there will be a hearing into the events of the weekend.

However its going to be very rushed as they have to name the champioon tomorrow night at the V8 gala, expect to see some VRY unhappy people ther (if the loosing party attends)

Gutted to hear R Kelly is the champ (for now).

Missed the action because I was at the NSW Chrissie cruise but all sounds dodgy.

Aside from the fact that Rick is a tool- it's a shame to see someone who has done so little for the sport end up on top of it.

it was a regular head to toe incident and Kelly served his drive through penalty, it really shouldnt be taken any further. Had Lowndes not have copped a wack from Wil Davisons car, he would have been the one walking away with a championship.

Thats racing.... The incident was minor, but championship defining at the same time.

HSV Toll team was very consistent through the year and was equally deservant of the championship win I thought.

i didnt c any of the races at all being at work, but looking at the vid link posted up it seemed that kelly had intent to stop but being that close to lowndes and having a slow reaction to him braking i cant c how anything could b changed from it. yes he did rub him in the rear but as they said many years ago "rubbins racin"

I agree with most here that Kelly is a pre-pubecent knuckle f#cker ( irrespective of what happened yesterday ) but I have to say, it's FORD vs. HOLDEN.......... Who "really" cares who wins ?!?!? :P

I know Lowdes is a really nice guy and deserves to win etc etc but it's all about carnage !!! Fords & Holdens in an orderly, high speed demolition derby is just good entertainment :D Bring it on !!!

The officials can't have it both ways.

They black flagged Tander for blocking with 4 laps to go, because Bond said the rules say 3 laps. Crompton asked the drivers and they ALL said 5 laps were the intructions at the drivers briefing. Ooooops

Tander was in contention for 3rd in the Championship with Winterbottom. The Officials basically said that they don't care about 3rd, the only thing of interest is 1st. Tander was also trying for the most race wins in the season (8), by black gflagging him the Officials denied him that chance in the 3rd race. After starting 22nd he came up short by 1/10th of second.

Regarding the incident on lap 1 of race 3, Lowndes stuffed up the previous corner and knew Kelly was going to pass, so he blocked on lap 1 of a 31 lap race. Moving over to the inside (off the racing line) left no room for Kelly to brake. Lowndes' move to block caused the contact, no block, no contact, Kelly makes a clean pass and Lowndes lives to fight back the next lap. Or the next 30 laps.

Basically it was the same as Murphy did to Ambrose at Bathurst 2005, Murphy made a mistake the previous corner and refused to pay the price for that mistake.

:P cheers :D

PS; I will declare the following interests. Mark Winterbottom (Ford) raced Karts with us and his dad is a friend. I occasionally work for Tandersport (Holden) in the F3 and Improved Production programs. I also spent Bathurst with a Ford team.

As much as I'd like to see the points stripped away and the TRULY deserving winner of the 2006 series take his rightful place, it's not gonna happen. There's only one precedent that I can think of where points have been removed post-race when a drive-through penalty has been served and the 25 points deducted back then won't make a bit of difference to this situation.

It's a crying shame that the obviously talented and incredibly well backed R.Kelly felt that he had to stoop to this sort of rubbish to win.

As for Tander, don't get me started. Can ANYONE imagine Whincup/Lnowdes carrying on in the same fashion were the roles reversed?

Don't think so.

Adrian

all yr lowndes has been punting people of the track to move forward thru the field . he stuffs up and cops one back and has a dummy spit big deal get over how much was he fined a few weeks ago for bringing the sport in to disrupute . sorry guys if ya ford fans ya wanna look thru both eyes and see the real picture just not the one eyed version thru ya rose coloured glassers

T.Kelly over cooked the corner, Lowndes had a look up the inside that's why he was there. R.Kelly wasn't @ Lowndes D-pillar @ the approach to the apex so he should have conceded the corner not used a police style immobilisation technique...Tapping-rubbing the rear bar is fine, trying to drive through your opponents rear quarter is not.

As for G.Tander and the other conspiring Holden drivers/teams pffft what a day of shame, seriously Walkinshaws driver instruction of "win it or bin it" borders on criminal!!! If cams are not willing to burn atleast one of these tools at the stake I'll be disappointed.

Maybe send the naughty boys back to race carts with the other kids where they belong or atleast until they mature more than just a tad.

They willingly conspired to ruined what should have been an awesome final round of racing..

The really disapponting thing about the whole weekend is that all four of the HRT/HSV team cars ran into Lowndes at some stage. But for anyone who has followed motorsport for any time at all you have to expect that sort of thing from a team run by Tom Walkinshaw.

Cheating dogs. Always have been, always will be.

Having said that I do feel a bit sorry for Rick Kelly. He didn't mean to punt Lowndes. Tander was a completely different matter, however. As was Skaife on Saturday.

So Tander was supposed to move over and give up his 3rd place in championship because Lowndes wasn't fast enough to get past? ALL the drivers were told at the Drivers Briefing on Friday that blocking on the last 5 laps was OK. So how come Tander gets black flagged with 4 laps to go for blocking?

As usual this incident started the corner before, where Lowndes made a mistake. Go back and look, you will see Lowndes move over early on the short straight. He wasn't trying a move on the car in 1st, he was blocking because he lost corner exit speed and knew that Kelly was going to beat him to the next corner.

If you really think that Kelly tried the "drive through your opponents rear quarter" then you had better have a look at the damage on Lowndes car. WHAT DAMAGE? It was the slightest rub, that's all it takes when you are on the limit of traction. Plastic bumper probably popped right back out. The real damage occured when Lowndes ploughed into the innocent guy in 1st place.

Next time there is a drive day at Philip Island, pop out and I will show you the propper racing line for those 2 corners, Lowndes was at least 2 car widths inside that line. Blocking for all its worth.

:P cheers :D

Doesn't matter what happened 100mtrs back up the road really does it? that's not the incident that is under investigation. As stated rubbing the rear bar is fine it's the pinning manoeuvre used that wasn't.. Have a look yourself he rubs across the back several times then moves right as Lowndes brakes sticks it up the inside about 200/300mm then steers left...have another look yourself its all captured nice and clear, it's a text book immobilisation technique and about as dangerous as it gets in racing on a mid-high speed corner.

R.Kelly has no idea, but he's still very young and has time to learn :P

Come on mate. 1:38.3's when the rest of the field (Winterbottom for example) was running 1:36.0’s???

Don't think so!

And post-race by Tander's own admission, he had fuel pressure problems and lacked the pace. You know better than that. :P

That's exactly the point, Lowndes made a mistake in the previous corner and didn't want to pay for it. He was slow out of that corner and knew that he was going to be passed, at the end of the short straight or on the corner entry. That's why he was 2 car widths inside the racing line on the corner entry. That's blocking and "according to the Officials" you are only allowed to block in the last 3 laps (or is it 5 laps).

If Lowndes doesn't go for the block (forget about the D pillar) Kelly would have been up to the A pillar.

Do you really think that Kelly would deliberately take out Lowndes knowing full well that every second they were going to be on slow motion replay? In car cameras, 20+ track side cameras etc. Plus the Officials have access to the data from the Motec logger in every car, they can see the braking effort, the impact force and the steering angles. His team had already been penalised in the previous race, big brother was watching.

:P cheers :D

Yes, I do know better. Blocking to protect your position is 100% legal, the Officials said so at the Drivers Briefing. It's not like Tander was being lapped, it was a genuine fight for position after all. So the question is not about whether blocking is legal or not. The real question is why did the Officials say 5 laps from the end of the race was OK at the Drivers Briefing and then apply the no blocking rule with 4 laps to go?

Personally I hate blocking, if the guys is genuinely faster, let him go, he might pull you along with him. But that's why I am an amateur racer, the professional drivers don’t think like that.

:D cheers :thanks:

I think the problem was, as fas as GT was concerned after the issue of the first black flag he gapped Lowndes, only to fall back when he felt he was safe (ie within 5 laps) to do so. Which can easily lead to the impression that he wasn't out there racing to his own full potential. Whether or not there is anything wrong with that in the particular circumstances is another issue.

    • Update 3: Hi all It's been a while. Quite a lot of things happened in the meantime, among other things the car is (almost) back together and ready to be started again. Things that I fixed or changed: Full turbo removal, fitting back the OEM turbo oil hardlines. Had to do quite a bit of research and parts shopping to get every last piece that I need and make it work with the GT2860 turbos, but it does work and is not hard to do. Proves that the previous owner(s) just did not want to. While I was there I set the preload for the wastegates to 0,9bar to hopefully make it easier for the tuner to hit the 370hp I need for the legal inspections that will follow later on. Boost can always go up if necessary. Fitted a AN10 line from the catch can to the intake hose to make the catchcan and hopefully the cam covers a slight vacuum to have less restrictive oil returns from the head and not have mud build up as harshly in the lines and catch can. Removed the entire front interior just shy of the dashboard itself to clean up some of the absolutely horrendous wiring, (hopefully) fix the bumpy tacho and put in LED bulbs while I was there. Also put in bulbs where there was none before, like the airbag one. I also used that chance to remove the LED rpm gauge on the steering column, which was also wired in absolute horror show fashion. Moved the 4in1 Prosport gauge from sitting in front of the OEM oil pressure gauge to the center console vents, I used a 3D printed vent piece to hold that gauge there. The HKB steering wheel boss was likely on incorrectly as I sometimes noticed the indicator reset being uneven for left vs. right. In the meantime also installed an airbag delete resistor, as one should. Installed Cube Speed premium short shifter. Feels pretty nice, hope it'll work great too when I actually get to drive. Also put on a fancy Dragon Ball shift knob, cause why not. My buddy was kind enough to weld the rust hole in the back, it was basically rusted through in the lowermost corner of the passenger side trunk area where the wheel arch, trunk panel and rear quarter all meet. Obviously there is still a lot of crustiness in various areas but as long as it's not rusted out I'll just treat and isolate the corrosion and pretend it's not there. Also had to put down a new ground wire for the rear subframe as the original one was BARELY there. Probably a bit controversial depending on who you ask about this... but I ended up just covering the crack in the side of the engine block, the one above the oil feed, with JB Weld. I used a generous amount and roughed up the whole area with a Dremel before, so I hope this will hold the coolant where it should be for the foreseeable future. Did a cam cover gasket job as the half moons were a bit leaky, and there too one could see the people who worked on this car before me were absolute tools. The same half moons were probably used like 3 times without even cleaning the old RTV off. Dremeled out the inside of the flange where the turbine housing mates onto the exhaust manifolds so the diameter matches, as the OEM exhaust manifolds are even narrower than the turbine housings as we all know. Even if this doesn't do much, I had them out anyways, so can't harm. Ideally one would port-match both the turbo and the manifold to the gasket size but I really didn't feel up to disassembling the turbine housings. Wrapped turbo outlet dumps in heat wrap band. Will do the frontpipe again as well as now the oil leak which promted me to tear apart half the engine in the first place is hopefully fixed. Fitted an ATI super damper to get rid of the worn old harmonic balancer. Surely one of the easiest and most worth to do mods. But torquing that ARP bolt to spec was a bitch without being able to lock the flywheel. Did some minor adjustments in the ECU tables to change some things I didn't like, like the launch control that was ALWAYS active. Treated rusty spots and surface corrosion on places I could get to and on many spots under the car, not pretty or ideal but good enough for now. Removed the N1 rear spats and the carbon surrounding for the tailpipe to put them back on with new adhesive as the old one was lifting in many spots, not pretty. Took out the passenger rear lamp housing... what do you know. Amateur work screwed me again here as they were glued in hard and removing it took a lot of force, so I broke one of the housing bolts off. And when removing the adhesive from the chassis the paint came right off too. Thankfully all the damaged area won't be visible later, but whoever did the very limited bodywork on this car needs to have their limbs chopped off piece by piece.   Quite a list if I do say so myself, but a lot of time was spent just discovering new shit that is wrong with the car and finding a solution or parts to fix it. My last problem that I now have the headache of dealing with is that the exhaust studs on the turbo outlets are M10x1.25 threaded, but the previous owner already put on regular M10 nuts so the threads are... weird. I only found this out the hard way. So now I will just try if I can in any way fit the front pipe regardless, if not I'll have to redo the studs with the turbos installed. Lesson learned for the future: Redo ALL studs you put your hands on, especially if they are old and the previous owners were inept maniacs. Thanks for reading if you did, will update when the engine runs again. Hope nothing breaks or leaks and I can do a test drive.
    • No those pads are DBA too  but they have colors too. I look at the and imo the green "street" are the best.
    • I’m not sure what happened I told them about sonic tunes free OTS tune and the next the I know .. I was booted..   To funny
    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
    • I'm not going to recommend an EBC pad. I don't like them. Just about anything else would suit me better. I've been using Intima pads for a while now.
