Belgarage Broken In To - 5 Cars Stolen - ***OLD THREAD***

Recommended Posts

dodgey fcks may be the same folk that have my car. now that would be nice. the thing that shits me is the idiots that keep these tossers in business. if people didn't buy hot cars and parts then these wankers wouldn't have 2 cents to rub together and may consider earning their money like everyone else.

hmm i bet stolen parts have never been sold on SAU either. Lets face it we all like a bargain in For Sale. Its sad that it must sometimes be at the expense on an insurance company or even worse an uninsured owner.

basically

bel hired a private investigator to find the cars

and he found them and the ppl who had them after like a week

but they wanted something like 50k for the cars to be given back

so bel tried to get the pi to get the cars back

then the guy said

sure ill tell u where the cars are

but i want 25k

and they told him to f**k off and thats when they put the 10k reward up

cant remember if the $ figures are right but they are close

so basically bel could of got the cars a long time ago

they took the cars because they knew the owners of bel have a lot of cash and they wanted to blackmail them

the sti and evo 7 were found in a house that was for sale

the real estate agent went into the garage and found the two cars and went wtf

they were stashing them in houses that were empty

evo7 was found with the cf parts off the 9 so the 9 would just be a plain white evo 9 that u wouldnt pick

what else was there hmmm

guys who pinched it are some seriously f**ked up characters

not xxxxx st or anything, but xxxxx st got searched for the cars

they are good with all the xxxxx st guys, probbaly steal cars for them

well thats pretty weird... wouldn't you just be like, sure, we'll pay the 50k... meet us outside horsnby police station so we can swap...

but seriously, the modified car game is weird... someone i know (not very well) had his show cars blown up... he left the country... why would you bother... they're just cars???

It's not the first time that high profile/modded cars have been stolen and then the owner's blackmailed into getting them back...

What a sad state of affairs this scene has degraded to.

well anyone that steals any of my cars can kindly direct their ransom attempts to my insurance company. I can picture how that is going to turn out... possibly more "man on fire" style than "ransom".

IT is weird, makes me wonder how all these cars that win autosalon and have 100s of thousands spent one them can be affored. I tihnk we all know that its dodgy in the modified world and dangerous

I just cant seehow people can afford it, they must have a real good job or rich parents

I know this is an old thread but were any of these cars recovered? Hi octane are selling a few parts off the tomei R34 on ebay makes me think that some of the cars were recovered.. that or they held onto the stock for a long time!

I know of at least one car that was recovered about 8 weeks after the fact, my ex car the silver STI.

gah who dug this thread up... saw it n went "what? AGAIN?"

LOL, I dug it up.. saw some parts from the R34 tomei car floating around on ebay (from a reputable seller) and was wondering if the car had been recovered.

    • Can't remember the last time I saw a good, healthy battery dropping into the 9s during cranking,  Too many variables to say anything about it with any certainty though.  A float voltage of 12-12.2 is tired AF and given how AGMs handle high C rate and DOD, will just die faster and faster with each cold start.
    • I find most vehicles dip into the mid to high 9 volt range, even with a good battery. Hitting the low 9s, and especially hitting into the 8s is pretty indicative of a dieing battery. The other part to look at is the battery voltage after the battery has been fully charged. They should be sitting at 12.8V, as lead acids are dieing, they head down low and lower. Often getting as low as 12.0 - 12.2. You'll start seeing this when the engine is cranking over slowly. Interestingly, depending on the vehicle, when batteries get really bad, you can see some REALLY funky things going on. From very low voltages, to higher than 16V too. Something I totally didn't expect! This part of the super low and super high voltages I've been seeing on motorbikes, I need to do some further studies on cars. I suspect cars will act a little bit different though for a couple of reasons.
    • Thanks! Supercheap has a sale on this weekend so might be a good opportunity to get a new one. I do have a decent multimeter so I'll give it a try either way.   Hah, you got me! I do not. All I know is that the battery holds charge and sits at an okay level before I start the car. Doing the full charge and rejuvenation cycle on a trickle-charger seems to not really make a difference to the cold start behaviour. I'll try and measure it during cranking and see what it does. It's likely terrible; it certainly feels terrible.  I'll be happy if it is really just the battery and I don't have to dick around with the alternator or starter motor.
    • how do you know voltage is fine?  quick easy test is connect DMM up and put it on max/min mode, remove fuel pump fuse, crank car for 3-5s, go check min voltage You'd be surprised how many "healthy" batteries are showing under 10v during this test in cold weather.
    • Not properly. You need to be able to dissipate 100 amps or so to doing it meaningfully. You can do it indirectly by watching to see how far the voltage falls during cranking. Unplug the coils or something else to prevent it from starting so you can get a good couple or three chugs. It also helps if you have the multimeter set up reading before you start, and that it has max/min functions. So you can catch the real minimum without having to watch the screen, which often doesn't update fast enough to show the real max/min in dynamic situations. Or use a digital oscilloscope, which can be obtained for <<$100 from Aliexpress (although I'd argue for paying up to ~$200 for a nicer one). A >4 yr old battery will very likely be well down the path to the knackery. Many only last 5-6 years these days. The cold weather lately will definitely make it worse.
