Turn your sarcasm detector on lol

But yeah, the GTR's record will never be beaten because, as Paul said, the track has changed. It'll always retain the record for the old track configuration, simply because there's no way for anyone else to compete for it now. The fact that there were no safety cars (I'll take your word for it Karen :P ) would certainly have an impact too, but regardless it all academic.

I do miss the days of different types of cars, the "supercars" are sooo damn boring. It used to be good seeing cars that had their own strengths and weaknesses but were still competitive overall. V8 Supertaxis are incredibly bland in comparison. Unfortunately it looks like there's a bucketload of money in it, so it's here to stay ;) I'd absolutely LOVE to see some variety in the series. It'd also be nice if, instead of the local manufacturers crying because they were being flogged, they used it as an incentive to step up to the plate. As it stands, there's not a great deal of a reason for them to do so, because they're not being compared to vastly superior machinery.

Meh anyway, it's all wishful thinking. Not going to happen, guess I'll just go back to the bike racing and rallies

But the only way to 'step' up was to go smaller capacity turbo. Which isnt really what the general buying aussie public would want. Remember there were also some pretty hefty resrictions against the V8s to start with. And the GTR was an internationally used car, the Aussie cars werent. That makes a lot of difference in R&D dollars and testing time.

Nah they could have also stepped up by making what they were allowed to use, work better for them, just like the manufacturers they were chasing. That's how the small-cube turbo crowd got so far in front - they kept making innovations, while the local V8 crowd stuck with 16-valve iron V8s, putting them in heavy cars with comparitively primitive suspension and then complaining when they couldn't keep up.

Point taken re the Falcon/Commodore not being an international car, but surely they could have used some of the high-tech bits from their parent companies' overseas models.
