Dear car gurus

I need your expert advice on this. at the moment i drive an R32. Now I am looking to import a toyota supra through http://www.prestigemotorsport.com.au just wondering any of you guys have done a transcation with these guys.

Please advice me if these guys are trustworthy to do a transaction. the catch is when they buy the car from teh auction i'll be transferring my money directly to the dealer in japan. This sounds risky since these guys dont even have a walk i n office.

so please advice me if any of u experts have imported a car through these guys.

thanks heaps

Buy your car through a RAWS compliance workshop who are eligible to import supra's. For two reasons 1. 9/10 times it is cheaper to do so and 2. They actually have a walk in office and will help you import a damn good car.

The flipside is that the broker would have to pay for your car in Japan, and what would happen then if the customer didn't pay them after the car arrived? Companies like Prestige and J-Spec have been around for a while now - you wouldn't last long if you ripped off your customers.

A broker's job is to help YOU bring in the car - the broker provides a service, helping you find the car you want. But in the end, you make the decision on which car to buy, and you must therefore pay the bills as they roll in.

j-spec is very good i hear - and funky_munky (shan) works with j-spec i think....

Depending on where you live - but if u live in victoria, I would direct you to ssv, they import skylines supras evos etc - speak to mark - he will be able to tell you all the info

My import broker is also located in Melbourne. This is my second car I've used him to get and had no worries with the first. Not too much of a hassle using brokers....got me two great cars at nice prices.

If u want more info let me know.

Hey Topcart

can u please send the details of your broker? since prestiege is in queensland it would be much easier if i can find someone from melbourne. do we get to view the cars from your guys or he has few in stock?

I know prestiege only charges $1100 as the broker fee. do u think the auction prices they give you is genuine though? coz i had few inquiries and seems like whatever the prices prestiege gave me for auction start prices were a bit heigher than others.

ive had a few cars bought through prestige and they are good

prompt service and communication, jus be sure to pick the car you

want not the car they will make the most money on.

Remember that the prices given by brokers are estimates - there are many factors that can push them up or down. If Prestige's prices on equivalent cars are higher or lower than other companies, it might simply be a difference in how they've calculated the landed costs.

*added* Sorry, didn't realise you were talking about start prices at auction. In the end the only thing you should worry about is the end price, not the start price. Stick to your final landed price and the broker will work backwards from there and decide how much they can bid. Either you get it or you don't.

Prestige are Perth based and I've had a few mates that bought cars through them. I've heard nothing but good comments about them.

All they charge is their $1000 commission. You pay for the cost of the car bought at auction and you set the limit. They even supply the auction sheet as proof.

They then ship the car to wherever you want.

Their estimates are usually spot on to the final price.

have you considered buying one already landed and complied? supras arent at all rare anymore and its very easy to find a basic non turbo one around 12k even on carsales.com.au

pictures hide defects VERY well.. and i dont know about you, but personally - i like to check a car out thoroughly and have it INFRONT of me, so i know exactly what i am buying.

im just really picky and my stuff has to be perfect! LOL!

We're (J-Spec) based in melbourne. We don't carry a stock of cars, because to be honest, a car that's already landed n complied is not gonna be EXACTLY what you're looking for, and that's what we specialise in.... finding a car that suits your requirements instead of talking you into buying something that's not. We make $1000 on the service fee, everything else is at cost and you pay them directly as they are incurred (so you have an invoice for each step of the importation process). If you're not comfortable buyin with just a handful of pics, we can also organise independant mechanic inspections while the car's in japan :P

Anyways, I can go on about buying thru a dealer/RAWS workshop vs an import agent, but sales speels aren't my thing... so I'll leave that to the guys in the office that deal with it. Send em an email to [email protected] or call em on 0400502250 and they'll help you out. What you see on the website are just good deals and some of the cars that are comin up at auction. If you give us your requirements then we'll actively start looking for cars that suit you.

If you want most of the J-Spec guys are at SAU VIC events, so if you come along we can talk to you in person.

i am looking for a supra rz year 2000 or heigher. it is very hard to find one. i know there is one car advertised on carsales.com.au but its a triptronic. i'm looking for a manual one. here rz 's are so expensive. that's wy i am going to import one.

try joel from Excite Imports (Formerly Aussie Car Compliance). Say Chris sent you (the guy that his girlfriend bought a R33 Series 2 from them a few months back and he is currently looking for a gtr from them).

Joel will be able to import you one at a great price and he sells great quality stuff. Im sure he will do you a sweet deal.

what do u guys think about imports101? the quotes they gave me was fairly reasonable.

I used Imports101 to import my 180 from them late 2005. Danny is extremely knowledgeable and will answer even the most basic questions you ask him without making you feel like a dick head. If you want to ask more questions about imports101 feel free to PM me or go to imports101.com.au and ask away on their forums.
