Hmm so i got done a while ago by the EPA (was on the way back from a workshop and my split dump was missing a few bolts, thats why i got done) I took it up to the testing place, and got 3 readings of 105db. I was sorta shocked, people always saying how quit rb20's are, i've never been pulled over before, personally think it's quiet and have had a few friends and a mechanic or two tell me it'll be fine.

So now i gotta quiet it down (for 2 weeks, then i can go back to old zorst) Now i'm trying to figure out what is the most cost affective/easiest way to do it. So far i've come up with borowing a stock cat back from some one/buying one, and running that.

If the rest of the system is still 3" do you guys reckon the stock cat back will quieten things down nuff or am i gona have to get some baffles or something?

The exhaust is 3" split dump - CAT then 3" back to 5" hks super dragger muffla

I have a stock zorst from the turbo back if you need it, but I'm going to Brasil in early january, so if possible, I'd prefer someone to buy it, for SAU members, I think $50 is fair. It includes a compliance cat, front pipe, dump pipe and cat back. No gaskets though, but they come cheap.

Let me know if you want it.

I have a RB20 non turbo too, it is very loud, the rest of my system is 4inch through from the muffler to the other end of the car, so im pretty sure that has something to do with it

u have what on an n/a :|

it all depends on mufflers size and design ... i dont think you have a resonator (middle muffler) or if u do, its almost non exhiistant, throw a stock system on, and have trouble hearing the car ...

im used of my car, its damn loud, and ppl tell me how loud it is, i dont realise it, but i know it :(

although when i yell what at them, tis a bit of an indication :|

chuck a stock compliance cat and cat back on, and u will have no problems passing emmisions and noise :O

The exhaust guy quoted, 300 for cat back with 2 1/4 inch piping (which they'd take off for me 2 weeks later)

I'm thinking buy that dudes zorst from cat back, take it to midas where hourly is only $40 and it'll be 2 hours max, i spose. So yeh Josh i'm interested in it (cat back), preferably tonight if possible

i just got rid of my epa last week. all you need is to replace your hks muffler with the stock one. i run a 3" turbo back - 3" hiflow cat - 3.5" cat back - 4.5" cannon. took out the cannon, use my stockie and read 84db.

ohh thats cool, even less to replace, the muffler will just be bolted on i assume, was it easy to yank off and replace (How did you adapt 3.5" piping to fit the stock muffler, which takes 2/ 2 1/4"?, Did it fit on original mounting bracket thingoes)? Would be good if i could do it myself (rego $500, insurance 1900, speeding fine 400, the resulting broken window 400, wtf is with everything happening at xmas time)

my stockie has been cut and welded a 3" flange to suit the rest of system which goes down to a 3" at the flanges. pretty much a bolt-on bolt-off job and yeh it fit the original mounting brackets.

grab mine. The flange should be the same. If you have a set of ramps or wheel stands, it whould be a hour or two's work at most. You only need a 14mm ratchet and away you go.

I PMed you my number, let me know what you decide.

Was gona buy that guy aboves system and get it installed but my dad had already told the zorst guy that he can go ahead and make one up, zzzz. Ended up getting new cat back system, my old one was chopped and had pieces of 3" and 2 1/2" piping anyway, guys gona put a cheap muffler on for the moment and will put my old one back on later, he's also putting a 3" resonator in it. Am i likely to lose much sound from a resonator? I liked the way the car sounded and how loud it was.

K so the guy actually did it pretty cool it's got 3" pipe down to the join (3"-2") with 2" pipe near the end, which has bolts so i can change mufflers over myself

Now (and for the next 2 weeks) it looks freaking gay though -_-

Car spools at the same RPM as before which is a worry

(sry bout quality my fone is crap and can't display the proper car colour)

Btw, I'm still wondering if a resonator is likely to drop sound much, he put what looks like a 3.2" resonator/pipe thing in

(my mate just worked out it's now 1/10th of it's previous sound)

you are lost.

Just go get a stock exhaust from a wrecker/person on here and you will be right.

The stock exhaust for the ceffy is a joke. With all the mods on and stock exhaust, its so restricted that it sounds like its got a screamer pipe on it!!!

Nah that doesn't need sorting out it's all done, just wanted to know whether a resonator will drop noise levels alot or only a little or just change the noise, as i had one installed. Mine sounds the same actually (screamer) sounds like when my dump wasn't bolted on properly, soon as it hits about 5krpm, can tell the Edit: muffler, is flowing like a piece of crap, need 2 weeks to end already hehe
