Now is it true that triptonic skylines are slow?

I dont believe it

Slow at what? Gear changes? The upshift on the 34's about .5-1second, the downshift's pretty quick also. But a MV Auto shift kit would do wonders to the tiptronic box.

If you're wondering what's achievable.. with shift's check out video's alexcim's posted.

Now tell me that's slow.

But if you mean tiptronic line's are slower in terms of getting power to the ground.. the general power loss is around 8-10rwkw going for the auto.

the tiptronic is still an auto box, meaning greater power loss, and shifts that are similar to a manual (maybe a just a bit quicker/slower whatever, but not much in it), so in stock form i'd imagine it would be slower down the quater or on a track...

if the auto was properly built, then it would absolutely destroy the manual for quater mile performance

Straight line there ain't much between it (8-10rwkw drivetrain loss ain't too bad)... around the bendy bits.. well we've all seen enough video clips to know the auto (even in tiptronic form) doesn't cut in there.

Check out the number of quick drag nissans there with auto boxes.. some australia's fastests drag 300zx's and 200sx's are autos. Same can probably be said about skylines.

Where you hit a limiting factor is in tuning options for auto boxes... not all aftermarket ecu manufacturers support tiptronics (e.g. PowerFC). So guess you'll have deal with that when you start making some serious power.

My R34 is Tiptronic and I only drive it in tiptronic mode, not as fun or controllable as a manual but better than auto. Who else has been in auto mode and thought they were in tiptronic mode shifting up to neutral only to hear that horrible free rev and think they have broken the auto, then embarrassingly realise what you have done :D

LOL i've done that once. I'm with you, for normal driving i always leave it in tiptronic and change through the steering wheel - it's just nicer to be in control most of the time.

I always drive my 34 in Tiptronic mode. and YES have accidently shifted to Neutral when in normal... its not a good feeling is it.. but overall its not too bad... I have heard all about MV being able to work wonders on the boxes... I love it when your stuck in peak hour traffic.. just shift it to auto mode...

tip isn't that shit...auto isn't as shit as every1 reckons...I have both and they both have their advantages.

I gotta say I love to drive the tip after driving back in peak hour with my twin plate...
