Im pretty sure that with NSW law, the air filter needs to be secured and shielded... in other words, the AFM needs to be bracketed onto the body of the car and the POD needs to be almost completely enclosed... If the CAI box has the top half opened then it will still be classed as a defect...

Cheers

I have a bracket for the pod and the CAI is completly enclosed so i think ill be ok.

CHEERS mate.

in nsw ur NOT allowed to have ANY pod filter UNLESS it has been and got a drive by and stationary noise test for induction noise!!!!!!! and it ain't cheap!!!! i've been done a few times and there is noway out of it!!!!,yeh some coppers might not give a sh*t but when it comes down to the law u can't have a pod filter unless it's been approved by nsw rta.

Bloody hell why dont we all just drive hyundais then!

RTA really do suck the fun out of everything.

In victoria you can only have 1 intake mod...so a pod is ok, and a front mount is ok, but a pod AND a front mount is a defect.

Thats the thing.. If it's due to the "emmisions" crap then why isnt it standard all over the country?

Does that mean NSW has "better" air/low noise than VIC due to NSW using box'ed emmision'ed tested PODs, while VIC doesnt?

It's double standards and rediculous! (sp).

:D

it's because nsw rta are a bunch of assholes!!!from memory i think it's about $550 for the drive by test and if you don't pass there goes your $550,i've found having the k&n pannel fillter in the box works just aswell anyway+alot less sh*t from coppers

well, i think it all evens out in the end, i mean we have 100000000000 x 50 more speed cameras in Vic, just look at the new set up they got goin on the western ring rd, a speed camera over every over pass pretty much....(ok so im a little over the top but u get the drift) while we get to keep 'fully sik' induction noise, we cant really go anywhere with it without being dicked by the 'Bracks' gold mine.

Hi folks,

The information about the NSW noise test isn't quite correct. Yes, you need to "pass" a noise test - as described in ADR 28 -

but that noise test need not cost you anything. All you need is access to a dB meter. It doesn't need to be conducted

by an authorised tester.

The thing that costs is the engineering Signatory's say-so that the vehicle complies with ADR 28 - this is your

engineering papers - and they only _really_ need to do this particular test if you make modifications that are likely to affect

ADR 28. A cold-air intake pipe probably won't need to be tested; a pod will (in NSW).

Of course, usually the Signatory will want to conduct the test themselves - so the cost is built-in to your paperwork.

But you can do it yourself, quite easily. All the information on how to do it is on the DOTARS website.

Saliya

Hey Dave, another skyline in Leumeah ! Got to be a good thing. Just a thought, getting the car tuned the other day at the Hitmans and took the lid off the airbox, well guess what, a whole 2kws. No thanks. The standard airbox flows heaps til around 240kw.The sucking noise from a pod, enclosed or not will drive you nuts.

when i got defected i had the option of returning it to standed or specificly take it to penrith rta and get a drive by and standing still noise test done, which i had to book in for and they quoted me approx $550 for the drive by and the standing still test DOES HAVE TO BE PASSED by a approved tester.(whats stopping you from buying a proper exhaust db test machine and doing it urself???)which only cost about $800,i don't think the rta are going to pass that now are they you could of tested any car!!!and the signatory only charges from memory about $18.00 to pass the defect after you have returned to standed or got it passed by nsw RTA.i've been defected 3 times for a pod fillter and had to go down this road many times.
