hey all i have a 33 series 1

hicas light comes on after aout 10min of driving. i have the standard steering wheel and the fluid is full

is it possible that the steering wheel has been changed and than changed back to an original one when coming to australia, and doing so has caused the light to come on (ie it has beed put on crooked or it doesnt work like that?)

its annoying having it light up so any suggestions appreciated

thanks

Does it come on after 10 km of driving consistantly??

First of all check if you can get it into diagnostic mode (there's a guide somewhere on this forum). If you can get it into diagnostic mode then you can at least read the error codes if there are any. If you can't even do that then you might just need a new steering angle sensor.

In the case of a faulty steering angle sensor, what happens is that the HICAS controller looks for a steering angle signal once the car is started, if it does not recieve the signal within 10km of driving then it assumes there is an fault somewhere in the system and gives you a warning light. The light will only go off after you turn off the ignition.

If you can lay your hands on another sensor cheaply then give it a try, just need to take off the steering wheel and unplug it, then fit the new one.

ok mechanic checked it on his computer, came up with 2 errors about there being no signal sent from sensor

now how would i check if the sensor is connected or oven there for that matter? i assume its in the steering column or just behind the wheel ??

btw i have a standard steering wheel on there but it could have been changed before
