Hey.

i picked my car up from customs the other day.

and there is black stuff in all the door cracks, engine bay and boot cracks... With a bit of degreeser it slowly rubs off but it takes a while. and its hard to get into some places to rub it off..

i am guessing its something they might have sprayed in quarenteen to kill any bugs/plantlife.

i'm just wondering if there is any good product on the market that removes this easily?

thanks.

Thats seam sealer thats there from the factory to cover the joins of 2 panels. Its noramlly covered with paint but i guess after time it can come off as its flexible and paint is not. Best bet is to use touch up paint to cover it up.

the car isn't that old.

1996 gtst. 60,000 genuine km's. the car is really clean ie. no stone chips.

just this black stuff. its like a dirt. but its stuck to the car. like. degreaser then hose of doesnt work.. if you put degreaser then rub your finger on it. it starts to come off. if you put degreaser then rub it with a cloth it slowly comes off after rubbing it. but i ws just wondering if there was a easier solution. so save me maybe taking the door off its hinges to get on those flat surfaces where my hand won't fit. etc.

i think i'll jsut get a cloth and rub it all off. will take a while. but my car being white. just in the engine bay makes the white paint in there look a bit dirty and in the door.

:]

Im not sure if im talking about what your talking about but if you are worried about the strip of black in the photos it is actually seam sealer im not sure why there is paint underneath but you can clearly see where the paint has been and has come off...

hey.

yep i see what you mean.

but there is infact paint under there.

what i'm talking about is the black stuff in the circle i have made.

its like a dirt/dust.

that part you have marked is just a thick line of that black stuff.

all the paint is still there and in good condition. :]

could be anything. its on the strut towers in the engine bay but i have cleaned most of it off that.

hmm.

EDIT:.

i should have marked more clearly what i meant, but i have circled the most obvious patches of it. and you can see it gets thinner in some places.

    • Ha ha ha, mine loves to spend, all on the dogs (they're our kids, and her spending would likely rival that of some people raising children!) the only benefit is, her spending is tax deductible as she runs a business in the dog industry 😛 The above all means she can spend race car budget quicker than I can. 😛 That and a lot of the things I want are very expensive, and I can be a bit "you want how much for that?!" And at other times overly impulsive. Or I start the w days of research, get to day 1.5 and get really annoyed that no one will advertise actual specifics and it's just marketting BS and I go "well, now I don't want anything to do with that now!" Also I hate paying lots of money for something I can make from $50 in materials. Then I get the shits halfway through making things and wonder why others who just buy parts have more fun... 😛
    • Their 240Z with the RB26 would be a real nice thing to have in a garage to come out for an occasional weekend cruise It's such a cool thing in so many ways Sadly, we have a blue 240Z shell that I walk past every day, just sitting outside a shed at work, it has been slowly disintegrating and falling apart into the ground for the last few years, the owner cannot be found, and I am unable to "claim it" I've been told by work and the RMS, the rust in the body is excessive though, and it has had most of the salvageable stuff, like panels, trim and switch gear stripped off it over the last year or two, work keeps threatening to put it in one of our metal scrap bins, I wish they did though, as it makes Mark sad walking past it
    • Good tips, I like it! 😂😂 My wife is a LOT more frugal than me so it's only me we need to worry about! A splurge to her is buying 2 pairs of socks in one visit at Kmart!
    • Haha, the appropriate response to the question "Is this new?" is "I've had this for a while.". With the unspoken small print that a while may be the time since this morning or five years ago   And to be fair I learned that from the best, i.e. my wife. Because it goes both ways.
    • Yeah kids certainly add a whole another dimension to your life.  Life ceases to be about you and more about them for a while!  And I wouldn't have it any other way.  I love watching them play sport and make new friends along the way. Wow, sounds like your mate is a good guy to know!!!  He's got some serious toys in the toy box!  Yes it would be lovely to be able to do stuff to your car without getting all tied up in boring shit like how to pay for it!!  I would describe my spending style as "aggressively spontaneous and logical but regrettable purchasing"....  That will hopefully make no sense at all which would be appropriate given that is how I buy stuff.  I'll decide at the drop of a hat that I'm buying something expensive, research the living shit out of it for 2 days straight then go out and buy it.  Then I'll have instant buyers remorse for 2 days which generally passes by the time it turns up on the front step!  If I'm feeling ballsy sometimes I'll tell my wife.  Other times it just makes its way silently passed the house and out the back to the shed, never to be spoken of again...
