Sooo... whos custom Xtreme Kevlar clutch did I score from ACS on Friday because the person they made it for is defected?

Apparently he's on SAU?

That would be Antony. His origional xtreme clutch didn't hold up like it was supposed to. It was jamming on (welding) its self after mild 4000rpm launches. Quite random also; driven easy for a couple of days, give it a launch and it would jam on and not let go. :S

The welding together is an understatement. Yes sure it received the occasional clutch dump at 4000rpm but nothing too extreme. :S

Oh OK, yeah the ACS guy told me that they were welding together after being driven hard, and not cooling down properly, like launching down your own street and turning the car off as soon as it sat in the driveway.

Not saying Antony was doing that.

But the new clutch is awesome. So happy with it now, will see how it holds up to launches after it has been worn in.

lol, that was the plan.

but the Z is sooooooooooo nice to drive.

bah, its a tough decision.

its so smooth, the shift is nice and quick, the brakes are incredible, the steering response is something else entirely...

and its a new car, 5 years of warranty, its only done 7,000 kays, doesnt have the bumps, squeaks and rattles and inevitable engine rebuild coming up that a nearly 20 year old GTR would have...

Yeah I can understand that...but GTR is awesome to own :P

But then again I love the Z aswell ...what colour was it?

Landcruiser or Territory Turbo here...

Keep the little 32 as a fun track car.

Territory's are awesome!!!Have heard nothing but good storys about them and not badly priced either

Hi5!!! to keeping R32 as track car :)

to my knowledge they dont need wearing in but thats ceramic how much was it for a GTR style clutch i just paid $490 for a Xtreme HD 850KG pressure plate

I mean flatten any unevenness on the Kevlar pads. Mines a 6 puck single plate cushioned chromoly with Kevlar pads, 1600kg pressure plate and matching chromoly flywheel, installed about three times what you paid.

Who sold the clutch to you? was It Brad? he's a good mate of mine and has been working threre for a solid 9 years or so! He knows his stuff, you can ask him anything car realted and he could prob get it in or know something about it! His old man even builds engines at home, has built many of Brads race car engines obviously!

I didn't actually get it, my mechanic mate bought it and installed it for me.

Didn't get the name of the guy I spoke to when I was in there this arvo, he just wanted to drive the car to see what it was like, being the first Skyline they have put this kind of clutch into. He knew his stuff.

Yep definitely not.. Driving around normally, give it a launch and it would get stuck on.. Nothing to do with getting too hot and not cooling it down properly. It never occured when turning the car off, only ever during a drive. Then it would be fine for the rest of the night. Quite random.

After seeing Antony's I'm of the opinion that ceramic clutches + 4wd are just not a good combination. Its not like he was even giving it massive gtr style clutch dumps as the 3ltr doesn't need as many rev's.

As you know high rev's + clutch dumps is worse for the clutch/driveline than low rev's and clutch dump. The motors spinning at 7000rpm then instantly try's to accelerate the car to that road speed equiv.. Drop it at a lower rpm and the strain is no where near as much.

that was just the cost of the clutch i actually paid $950 clutch and install remember baby GTR here ;)

7000 RPM launch is just silly and is not really needed

Forgive me if I'm wrong... I'm only new around here but...

Isnt this thread about non-car related stuff :D

Or is non-car related chit chat impossible? :O

Welcome!! :D

It can be both..:( Just join in I do all the time :laughing-smiley-014:

well it's mostly for stupid crap,

but welcome to the forums and seeing as your name is Joanna i call pics or ban!

LOL Pics or ban!

Oh that is strange. Yes perhaps ceramic + 4wd aren't suited.

The ACS guy said they have been getting the same problems with hi-po WRXs, so they fitted Kevlars in them and they have been good for going on 8 months now... Now they're trying Skylines. Seems promising.

Sorry! Didn't think my little clutch story deserved its own thread.

Welcome and chat away :)

    • Hey guys I’m chasing a Rb20det complete or bare block need a good running engine as mine has low comp
    • You're making my point for me. 95 is not "premium". It is a "slightly higher octane" version of the basic 91 product. The premium product that they want people to buy (for all the venal corporate reasons of making more profit, and all the possibly specious reasons of it being a "better" fuel with nicer additive packages) is the 98 octane stuff. 95 is the classic middle child. No-one wants it. No-one cares about it. It is just there, occupying a space in the product hierarchy.
    • 98 and 95 have to meet the same national fuel standards beside the actual RON.  91 has lower standards (which are quite poor really), so 95 is certainly not 91 with some octane booster. It would be an easier argument to claim 98 is just 95 with some octane boosters. Also RON doesn't specify 'quality' in any sense, only the octane number.  Anything different retailers decide or not decide to add to their 95 or 98 is arbitrary and not defined by the RON figure.
    • Anyone know alternatives to powerplus tungsten? Can't find an alternative online.
    • 95 is just a scam outright. 98 is the real "premium" with all the best detergents and other additive packages, and at least historically, used to be more dense also. 95 is just 91 bargain basement shit with a little extra octane rating. Of course, there's 91 and there's 91 also. I always (back in the 90s early 2000s) refused to put fuel in from supermarket related fuel chains on the basis that it was nasty half arsed shit imported from Indonesia. Nowadays, I suspect that there is little difference between the nasty half-arsed shit brought in by the "bargain" chains and the nasty half-arsed shit brought in by the big brands, given that most of it is coming from the same SEAsian refineries. Anyway - if there's still anything to that logic, then it would apply to 95 also. 98 is only made in decent refineries and, as I said, is usually the "premium" fuel, both in terms of octane rating and "use this because it's good for your engine because it's got the unicorn jizz in it!".
