heh, everyone has that, you can only see yours though.

*coin drops* Okay.

i think you should be able to see everyones personally

I think you used to be able to. That's why I wondered why I still had it and no one else did.

Tangles I can certainly empathise with living with chronic pain. I've suffer back and neck pain since September 18th 1995 when someone rear ended me doing 80kmhr. It took 6 years to physically recover from that (and another year for the court case to resolve itself) and then I was in another crash in November 2002 (car 3 in a four car collision) where I exacerbated the previous injuries and then add some new ones. 3 months later I was in another four car collision which made things worse again. After a long, slow and (at times) painful rehab program over the next 4 years I was finally back in decent physical shape and management of my pain... And then some lady ran a red light and hit me pushing me over four lanes of traffic and through a fence on the other side of the road. I spent some time in hospital and am once again doing rehab.

The rehab has been extremely helpful in regaining movement, strength and confidence in my body once again. It starts with physio ( twice a week), incorporates hydrotherapy ( 3 times a week) and now I'm doing pilates (3 times a week) that will eventually lead to gym work (3 times a week). I have to be conscientious of my posture in everything that I do and maintain a healthy body weight to minimse the pressue placed on my back. My aim is to get back to indoor soccer - whether this is realistic or not remains to be seen but I believe I will be able to. Again this is about being proactive and doing something about my pain rather than feel imprisioned by it. ATM I take opiates for pain management plus other medication to assist with sleep. My aim is to get off the medication completely as I have in the past.

I feel for you buddy i know what its like. I hit a stobbie pole 4 years ago doing 140 in a gemini. My side hit the pole then went thro a fence of a grave yard and knocked out two grave stones the car was bent in a V shape and took 1 crane and the jaws of life to get me out. Spent 1 week in hospital getting 7 pins and 2 plates in my arm. Then a year later hit a car and fliped my civic doing 80kph which put alot of strain on my arm which sent me back to rehab. I still get the odd pain mainly when the weather changes or big knocks on the arm but fort always helps

Tangles I don't know if you're being facetious above but if you are talking/thinking about suicide and the only thing preventing you is your kids then it sounds like you need some professional help. There are many different forms of medication that can act as mood enhances these days (not just anti-depressants) and therapy from either psychologists and/or psychiatrists. If you have seen them before and think they were useless then see different people (I can give you some contacts if you need them). If chronic pain is the cause of your despair then you can/need talk to people about pain management.

As for how to make yourself feel better there are two things that I feel are important: 1. Do something proactive about your pain (I take pilates classes 3 times a week to help me with chronic back & neck pain and more recently knee, hip & rib pain). 2. Be social. Go see family & friends. Make an effort to contact them if they don't contact you. Try make new friends - half of my social activities these days are with people I've met because of my GTRs.

Depression is too often diagnosed and treated these days for people that are just feeling a little down or low. But the reason for this is that some of these people are heading towards a major depression that often leads to self harm and doctors etc don't want these people to slip through the cracks.

That is good advice..couldnt of said it better myself :P

We all go thru hard times, but try different things to help your situation, does being in a pool help with you legs/knees?

^^ hardly worth e-bashing her for it some of us dont venture that far back or look for old random stuff

haha as R31Nismoid would say "Use the search button" *giggles*

How? Are you a mod or is it because you have over 10,000 posts, or because you are the Cupcake Master? Are you just extra 'special'?

sorry guysngals, I didnt mean to bring the mood level here down a few rungs.

:( apologies.

hey Madaz, nah mate Im not religious. Im spiritual, but not in the sense of worshiping Gods and their Sons and the like.

Sinful, yeah I find swimming and hydrotherapy fairly beneficial; I just dont do enough of it (time constraints with work & family commitments).

Ive recognized for a long time that this is my big challenge in life, just like others deal with loss, illness, disability, etc so I try to deal with it as best as I can. Hard tho, ie today every step on my right leg is sending rushing waves of pain thru my body. uuugh. Was very tempted to stay at home on my recliner today but that wont get me anywhere in life

Ah well, cheer up all !!! Have a great day hey

    • Well, yeah, the RB26 is definitely that far off the mark. From a pure technology point of view it is closer to the engines of the 60s than it is to the engines of the last 10 years. There is absolutely nothing special about an RB26 that wasn't present in engines going all the way back to the 60s, except probably the four valve head. The bottom end is just bog standard Japanese stuff. The head is nothing special. Celicas in the 70s were the same thing, in 4cyl 2 valve form. The ITBs are nothing special when you consider that the same Celicas had twin Solexes on them, and so had throttle plates in the exact same place. There's no variable valve timing, no variable inlet manifold, which even other RBs had either before the 26 came out or shortly afterward. The ECU is pretty rude and crude. The only things it has going for it are that the physical structure was pretty bloody tough for a mass produced engine, the twin-turbos and ITBs made for a bit of uniqueness against the competition (and even Toyota were ahead on the twin turbs thing, weren't they?) and the electronic controls and measuring devices (ie, AFMs, CAS, etc) were good enough to make it run well. Oh, and it sounds better than almost anything else, ever. The VR38 is absolutely halfway between the RB generation and the current generation, so it definitely has a massive increase in the sophistication of the electronics, allowing for a lot more dynamic optimisation of mapping. Then there's things like metal treatments and other coatings on things, adoption of variable cam stuff, and a bunch of other little improvements that mean it has to be a better thing than the RB26. But I otherwise agree with you that it is approximately the same thing as a 26. But, skip forward another 10 years from that engine and then the things that I mentioned in previous post come out to play. High compression, massively sophisticated computers, direct injection, clever measuring sensors, etc etc. They are the real difference between trying to make big power with a 26 and trying to make big power with a S/B50/54 (or whatever the preferred BMW engine of the week is).
    • Is the RB26 actually that far off the mark? Honestly from where I'm sitting a VR38DETT is not actually that much more advanced than the RB26. Yes, there is a scavenge pump on the VR38, it's smarter in a number of ways but it's not actually jumping out to me as alien technology. Something like a B58 or V35A-FTS on the other hand has so many surprising little design features that add up to be something that just isn't comparable.
