Hi all

got a quick question. My drive is fairly steep, and when parked over night, and i got to start the car, the tappets tap for possibly 10-20 seconds if that. Possibly happens 1 out of 30 starts.

Now this doesn't always happen, and appears to be radom, sometimes it does other times not at all.

So does this couse s hit load of damage, i am goign to get some lifter free treatment and hcange my oil, to see if it helps. I know it has to do with the oil pickup ect ect, i juts wanted to ask, if it is going to couse damage?

Mine does this too. Its only for about half a second.

You could always try to get it level before you start it. I park on a hill every night but roll back a few metres onto level ground to start it.

My old pulsar did it too.

well it still doe sit, especially if parked on a funny angle on a hill with the front nose up, but it stops within 5 seconds if that, and the oil pressur eis all good, did a test, bypassing the stock selenoid, and the oil pressure is exactly as it should be as per the manual.

I'm doind a service soon, goign to get some engine flush and tappet free treatment, and see if that improves it a bit.

The RB26 uses solid lifters so they will always be harsh and quite noisy. The only way to quiten them down is to re-shim them. I think the RB25 uses hydraulic lifters so if they arent supplied with the correct oil or not enough they will not do their job correctly and you get extra noise from them.
