Oil Coming From Exhaust Manifold

After installing a recon-head this weekend, the car started and ran.

After about 20 mins of idle running and a small amount of driving

we popped the bonnet only to notice thick black oil bubbling out between

the head and the exhaust manifold gasket. Why would there be oil coming out

there?

Has anyone ever come across this before?

also unsure why there's oil there - as there shouldn't be. could it be some residual stuff from the reconditioning?

maybe its dripping down from the cam cover? did those gaskets get replaced?

I used the same gaskets with copper sealant.

Cam cover is a possibilty but it seamed pretty clean

over the exhaust manifold.

which gasket are you talking about, the cam cover? or the manifold?

the cams are the only place above the headers that oil can come from, unless its getting flicked up there by the fan.

does the oil look like its dripping? or splatter?

It looks like oil is coming out the exhaust port into the exhaust manifold and then leaking through the gasket.

a little oil for lubrication is okay, too much then you've got problems... hope its not the latter
