Brant are widely accepted as one of the best immobilisers out there. They do a package which incorporates their immobiliser with the Quicktrak tracking system (Quicktrak themselves might also use the Brant system, I don't know).

I know that a keypad system is at least an option on the Brant system, I hope that it's not standard because I really hate any security measure other than a remote push button. If your car needs a keypad to get it started, I think it's almost certainly going to be useless because your car will just be towed if the security measures are that tough. That's what the tracking system is for ;)

Call Tony on 0419997020 and tell him that John with a black GTR sent u... he will give u better price on Quiktrak... :) he actually works for Quiktrak so u can trust him not being a dodgy individual installer who will try to steal ur car in near future ... ;)

I was thinking of getting one, but pessimistic in getting on the idea as I am a communications engineer with a slight background on the theory behind it. If the car is worthwhile stealing then chances are on this car (with tracking system) the thief will know that it uses a similar concept to a GSM network. for example mobile phones, this tracking system uses the same topology as these mobile networks, so by the same concept of drop-outs and reception come into play. so if there is an area with no coverage or they know how to shield it appropriately you can kiss your car goodbye. Also u have to toss up if the thief knows a lot about these systems he/she would most likely work for the company or is a proffesional thief, they wouldnt go to the trouble of stealing a skyline. some cases i have read are on high end cars like a porche or GTR's. however then u have the thiefs that know or dont care about the quiktrak system and still attempt or steal the car.

It all depends on the company you get it from. I have done some research and quicktrack cover a substantial amount of coverage, and cause they use an independent network (so to speak) they dont have to worry about congestion traffic or call drop-outs as "phone" companies do. ie. there is no "hang on i cant hear you the network must be busy" (ie.optus free time) sorry about the double ie's, quotations, and double brackets))

I would definetely get one they are worthwhile for piece of mind...im just jealouse cause i cant afford it!!! and i dont think its feasible on a gtst, worthwhile if its a really good one or gtr or any other high performace, highly stolen vehicle. ie. WRX big problem.

and as JimX said whats stopping a tow truck stealing it. dont say no way cause it happened to my mates shitty corolla off chapel street!!!

When I buy my car (soon), I'll install a Boomerang alarm/immobiliser. I've only received one quote, which was $1000 (inclusive of installation). Hopefully I'll be able to beat this price if I look around a bit more though. I'm in Adelaide, by the way.

On a related note, I've never heard of a 300zx being stolen. Why is this?

There are much cheaper systems than Boomerang that do essentially the same things, they cost around half as much. There were a few threads on these forums about them, do a search.

The problem with Boomerangs and the like is that apparently either most installers don't bother to wire up the immobilisers on them or they can only get one in, and/or the immobiliser on the system is easily defeated. I've heard a few different stories but they all tend to say that they're not the best option for security.

For $1000 I would be looking at a Brant.

Edit: If you really want an alarm with the paging function and other funky features then look at one of the Boomerang clones and save some money.

Brant's Nemisis alarm doesn't appear to have a remote ignition function, which I think is a necessity. :D

I wonder if these Boomerang clones you mention actually work properly. I'd prefer to spend more than risk the well-being of my vehicle. Especially given my lack of comprehensive insurance and all.

    • Hey guys. I have a 400R on its way to Australia from Japan currently and have a few questions I’m hoping others may be able to help with.   Wondering if anyone here has had any luck getting the Sat nav unit to work in Australia!? Assuming the Stereo is as simple as a band expanded and tv won’t work?  Seeing as they’re based off a Q50 which is Aus delivered is there any way to link that system to the nav? Nav modules and head unit are different part numbers and appear slightly different at the rear with plug ins etc. can I put my xtrail sd card into the rv37 and will that convert the maps or update to Australian? Has anyone got any advice here?     also has anyone fitted the factory remote start and Security system once it’s landed in Australia? I put an enquirey to Nissan Japan in via a third party, and they suggested it needs a Nissan Japan dealers device to setup and couldn’t guarantee if one here could do it or not. They can supply and I can physically fit it but to setup I would need a dealers device. Any information here would be appreciated also. I’ve seen one here with it fitted already prior to leaving Japan at a dealer/inporter, so clearly passes compliance and works when fitted Japan and doesn’t need changing here.      also, does the tyre inflation sensors work here? Does anything change with them when the vehicle arrives? Where are they actually situated? I’ve read they have batteries and they need to changing at times and seems like resetting involves the nav system?    any help here would be appreciated and any other aust specific information to help would be great. Looking forward to see what the current generation skyline is like and eager to see how many of the gadgets can be utilised here.  Thanks in advance
    • Do need to take it with a pinch of salt. One of the adapter failures, they clearly had setup issues with the flywheel.  One of the slipping ones I spoke to and it was pretty clear the throwout was riding, rather than fix, just swapped to a new clutch.    These clutches are being put in anything from 5k offroad 4x4 beaters, GR yaris, 500hp commodores to 1200hp barra monsters. Bound to be some issues in some of them when they are not a simple bolt in affair due to the changes in height.    There is a lot going on in this picture and unless I did the job myself no way to tell what really happened.
    • I did this mod in 2019  You just have to modify the top bracket of the ABS/TC/Fuel Pump Control ECU so it sits more upright and closer to the back seat and run a good quality positive battery lead from the engine bay, the negative lead i just bolted down to the body in the boot.
    • Damn... Not the feedback I want to hear.
