hi, just thought id share my results after slowly building my series 1 r33 gts-t up over the past 4 years and having my car of the road for the last nine months.

had my engine rebuilt with gtr rods wiseco forged pistons , tomei poncams step 1 256 degreee duration with tomei valve springs e.t.c. running link ecu , 550 cc/min injectors 600hp bosche fuel pump. exedy clutch, standard plenum. gearbox e.t.c.

upgraded turbo from gcg gt3037 500hp turbo with a/r .63 exhaust housing running internal wastegate to a gt3040 600hp turbo a/r.82 exhaust housing on a high mount manifold , running 38mm tial external wastegate through 3 inch exhaust.

heres the results : power went from 281 rwkws at 22psi to 346 rwkws on 24psi on the new set up ! i couldnt believe it ! i was expecting around the 300 to 315rwkw mark, wow have to say im exstatic!

theres definately more lag than before but the power comes on really hard from 4500rpm now. i cant post up dyno sheet , because im still a computer no hoper but i have plotted the results for comparison for anyone who is interested:

YESSSS my car is being built atm and is ready in two weeks and i have exactly the same parts as you, i was aiming for 300-330rwkw, even if i got like 280rwkw i was goin to be happy. But now thats great it gives me a good idea on power figures, well done lol.

Gotta be happy with that!

It also looks like you could have got heaps more out of the 3037 as well. There was 2000rpm band where there was no increase in power............leads me to believe that something was holding it back? Is this the same reason the 3040 is not showing any power increases in the top end?? Injectors maybe??

sweet this gives me some good stuff to go by as im putting on a gt3040 with a .63 exhaust housing onto a rb25det powered silvia just got to build the turbo mainfold so the turbo sits in a nice spot

Nice results indeed but its my belief that the GT3037 underperforming because it needed to be;

- externally gated

- use a bigger 0.87 housing

- and run the boost that the GT3040 had.

It would have broken the 300rwkw barrier easily! But nevermind, I think you've done well either way! 340rwkw must be animal as.

thanks for all the positive replys guys, kaido my tuner thinks that the standard plenum isnt a bad thing in terms of flow but a larger throttle body and plenum he thinks would pull a bit more power.

b h dave ; low mount stainless manifold 6 into 4 into 2 design , nothing flash. a/r .63 internal wastegated exhaust housing same as whats on standard rb25 turbo. yes 7 blade to4s compressor

r31 nismoid; ive got tomei poncams step 1 , ported head and tomei valve springs. thats an interesting point, i wonder if my 3 inch exhaust is holding it back ! lol although im very happy with the power!!! im still trying to get used to it , the cars only got standard suspension and brakes! so thats definately where i will be spending the dollars next.

roy, i think that the gt3037 500hp power would have definately made 300 rwkws plus with an a/r .83 exhaust housing. gcg told me that it would have increased the lag by 500 to 700 rpm and because it was knackered , i went the gt3040 600 hp compressor instead. even though iam very happy with the gt3040 turbo i still would advise anyone who wants a good street combination still with alot of grunt to go the gt3037 500hp turbo combination.

my skyline is an absolute animal now! i can hardly wait to take her to calder park!

I only had a 3" aswell with mine... hmm... i think you are getting valve float or similar issues as DVS said.

Based on what i saw, there is no reason for the power not to hold out to 7500rpm at the least when mine with the stock cams held firm to 8000rpm.

v power racing 100 ron from shell or its old name was optimax extreme. although my tuner thinks thats mobil synergy 8000 98 ron is just as good go figure. valve float wow i hope not! maybe 25 psi over 7000 rpm even with the tomei valve springs and extra lift of the tomei cams???? have to look into this, thanx for the info nismoid.

Just throwing ideas out there dude as a number of GT30 setups (INASNT etc etc) didnt drop off sharply like you said.

Maybe cam timing isnt perfect?

Its something you might need to dig to find

When do 550 injectors max out? I would have thought that would be somewhere to begin looking?

550's be albe to support around 100hp each so around 600hp

My HKS 3037S with 0.73 ex housing is still climbing at 8000rpm- Tomei 256 8.5mm lift External gate. 21psi at 3700rpm

    • Middle seat good for a slab of beer or Esky for a road trip. 2x kids, means 1x free seat lol.
    • So we have most the interior back in, and for the first time with one OEM speaker hooked up. The 31 is running, driving and now tunes!!! Hahaha yet another step for the sub that sat 10m under for two weeks!!! unbelievable really 👌 lots of love work and not giving up on her. Seen so many youngsters part way less, and in way better condition. I’m stubborn, thinking another problem is just a hurdle to overcome, One at a time. IMG_9277.mov
    • That is correct. I'm using a modified ABS ring and a ZF speed sensor on my rear diff for speed input. I'm running a Haltech ecu.
    • Been busy with the newborn. We originally thought we were going to go for a third, but we're good with two lol. He's starting to actually sleep now so I've had some energy to work on the car. It's been parked away in the garage since late November due to winter.  I went ahead and redid all my head oil drains. I originally had my front and rear head drain going into the same pipe but have since split them up. I also added an Ethanol content sensor to get ready to run E85 this summer. Tossed it on my return line. Sensor sits nicely under my intake manifold.    I also have a lot of parts that came in for my rear end. I'll be swapping over to a 3.3 final drive and doing the GK teck anti squat mod. While the rear subframe is off, I'll also change every bushing. We're planning on buying another house soon with the condition that I get at a minimum a 2 door garage, so I'll wait to have more room for this. Now onto the strange things that recently happened... After changing the lower rad hose (It had been sitting in my cabinet for well over a year and was the last hose I had to replace), I let the car idle in the garage to bleed my coolant. After running for a few minutes, it started missing. Got much worst within a minute or two and then stalled and would not restart. My crank sensor decided to crap itself. No damage, no explanation, just died. I went ahead and replaced it with another ZF sensor but the heavier duty stainless model with a shield. Tossed that in and started right up. Has anyone else seen this? I hate when things fail without cause. Luckily this was a blessing in disguise... This lead me to recheck my timing. It seems I may have had a beer or two the last time I had set my TDC angle as I was off exactly 5 degrees... I miscounted a line haha. I was running 5 degrees less then commanded. It's a little embarrassing but helps explain why my dyno operator seemed to think I should be making more then 478rwkws.
