there is always a reason for knock, its not a good idea to ignore

backing out timing is the best quick resolution, dont bother with octane booster. the faq tells you how to use temp ign adjust to back out timing if its detonating excessively

s every1 has said...its bad...

The only time I got/get high knock (over 20/25) is when I get a bad batch of fuel, or a lower RON rated fuel..just drive slow, get it tuned and off u go...

If that doesn't work..then go into more depth.

Well as good as Matt is (and i believe he is) there's a few from there in this thread, including myself, that are getting high knock.

I've seen up to 150ish, always in the same load area but around 40-50 is average for me.

I hate it but Matt pointed it out to me when it was tuned and pretty much shrugged it off as if it was nothing....which it might be...but still, it drives me nuts!

read the faq and learn how to fix it yourself, its pretty easy

to me, thats the point of engine management, to manage the engine :thumbsup:

if you see the same spot each time detonating, the just back out a few deg of ign timing in that area, simple fix. should take no more than 5 minutes

hmmm rwkw I think I might have seen you when you were getting your car tuned by Matt.

I was the one in the black 34....

Matt tuned mine a few weeks before yours and im having a similar problem but what he told me to do was to go to the settings and keep taking timing out via the injector correction settings and if it still does it with -3 to -4 taken out of it, it is most probably phantom knock caused by something else and not your engine pinging its head off.

I have seen knock levels reach 140+ on mine on more than one occassion and the car is still going strong (touch wood). Even with -4 degrees timing out of it, the knock levels reached over 100 so in my case it really was something else causing the readings to read so high.

Screamer pipe might have something to do with it hehe...

So just try taking some timing out of it yourself and if it still does it with like -5 degrees taken out of it than it is most probably something else and not the tune itself.

If your that concerned about it then take around -2 or -3 degrees out of it and drive around like that until you can get in contact with matt again. Bear in mind that you have to do this everytime you start your car.

Go to the "Settings" and then to INJ/ING correction setting. Its the second one on the right column and then take around 3 degrees out of it, you will be using a little bit more fuel this way but hey its better to be safe than sorry :thumbsup:

all the guys here with high knock: is it audible? have you watched a map trace yet? no point in pooing your pants yet. thomas you are excepted from this question as your car is soo loud a small nuclear device could detonate inside your engine bay and it wouldn't be heard over the exhausts!

oh, and for the guys concerned about this. I had my car tuned by matt 2 years ago and since then run many track days, skid pans, drags, burnouts etc. and it hasn't missed a beat. I even took it back there about 2 months ago for a check up tune, and to do some more work on the light load/cruise mapping, and overall the tune was still as good as day 1.

On high boost, i was seeing knock constantly upwards of 90. Did i hear it ping? NO. therefore i never worried about it. Tuning in the old days. was listen to hear it ping, then retard it a little.

thank god someone uses their ears to listen for detonation still!

ok. i have had the same problem for ages now and drives me nuts even though i try to ignore it. i get knock around 60-110 depending on driving circumstances. i have not heard any pinging sounds. strange thing is that the car has been dyno tunes 2 times now and has pinged after both tunes. but on the dyno both times the tuners were sure there was absolutely no knock (below 30). i have been caning with these knock levels on 20psi and 260rwkw for a year or so now and have had no problems. car does not miss a beat. i am still very keen to figure this out..
