Hi Guys,

I am looking at setting up a group buy for scissor doors. Also known as Vertical Doors and Lamboghini hinges. These are universal hinges so will fit all cars. I am investigating shiping details, but I think that if I can organise 10 people, It may cost around $700 - $800 delivered to your door.

Unfortunately postage is expensive as each kit for 2 doors weighs around 20kg.

The kit comes with instructions and does not require welding. I believe this is a bolt on kit with 2 hinges and 4 200lbs gas struts. The mechanism of the hinges does not require you to change the door latch. I have seen similar hinges from US$900 to US$1400, so the pricing is good. I am trying to organise a sample.

I am looking at importing them directly from China. As soon as I get more info, I will post it up.

As I'm going away on holidays next week, I will post info from time to time. So please bare with me as I won't be on all the time. I will let this run until the end of January 2007.

Thanks for looking.

I would also suggest people chat to an approved engineer before undertaking such modifications to a road car as they are not factory, and quite a change to the workings

Hi Guys,

I am hoping to get a set and put them on a car by the end of January. I will take some photos of the installation and let you know how easy it is and how sturdy they are.

I am checking on how many people are interested at the moment. But I wouldn't do a GB unless they are quality products and sturdy. Therefore the GB wouldn't go ahead until I have fully checked them out.

I have them at home do you want to see some photos about them?

pics would be great so we can see how they are to be sure, but yeh good idea checking the quality etc before it goes ahead..

for someone who asked about legallity, as far as i know an engineer wont touch them....but u might find an odd one that will

either way still keen, keep us posted.

Hi guys, yeah ill be interested if its a good quality product, but my 1 question is, is with almost all scissor kits the fenders have to be modified. Is this the case with this kit as well??

Hi Brendan,

I am not 100% sure if the fenders need to be lipped (ie, the fender bit is flared as per wheel arch. I think for memory wheel arches being lipped is about $8 and there are no marks on the paint work).

Some vehicles need to be lipped whilst some don't. I can not tell you 100% for sure. In the next 3 or 4 weeks, I will be attempting ;):P to put a set on an R33. I will let you know if the fenders need to be lipped. :)

BTW, BanKids it would be great if you could post some pic's of your car with the scissor hinges. Did you do the install yourself ?

I have done some research on the internet re: the installation, and it can be done with 2 people. It is almost impossible to do it yourself unless you have hoists and such......

are you still able to open the door normally?

The door opens normal initially so that it uses the same door latch, but then opens upwards.

If you are asking if you can choose to have the door open normally or upwards, the answer is no. Once you change the hinge, it will open upwards. If you want it to open normally, you need to put the old hinge back on.

sorry i don't have any pic on my car as they are still at home. but i have a mate who did the conversion and that looks awesome, just one thing, if your car is 2 doors like supra or skyline 2dr, they doors might be too heavy to lift up with just one air bar each side, mine got 2 on each side..

bankids,

These kits come with 300lb struts (2 for each door) due to the heavy weight of the door.
