I have a stock inlet manifold with a pod on my R33 GTST and get that pssshht noise on gear changes/off throttle that I thought was an atmo BOV. Is the noise much more noticeable with the pod vs a stock airbox?

I had a poke around under the bonnet and it all plumbs back into just behind the pod.

It also connects into the boost controller - does this mean that the factory BOV is also the wastegate?

cheers mike

the bov has nothing to do with the wastegate.

the wastegate does not make any noise.

the factory bov is plumback and you will hear it revent on gearchange if you have a pod filter filter, as you can hear it echo in the intake pipes

With a stock air box and the complete resonator box with extra sections you shouldnt hear the recirculation/bov noise at all. I didnt on my gtr anyway. If you just have the air box and no resonator box you get a very brief 'dou'..'dou' IE: the begining of a compressor surge noise..

sorry to highjack. I am new to turbocharged vehicles. my fresh imported R33 S2 has what i have been told the stock plumback bov but also has a blitz atmospheric job on one of the intercooler pipes. u can only see it if u take the scoop of the stock airbox off. whats the advantages/disadvantages of this set up? how can i tell if my stock plumb back works? ill try and get a photo

How loud is the "ppssst'' noise? if you have the stock air box you wouldn't hear anything using the stock bov, I'd say that only one of them is in use, So I Don't think you would have any advantage to having them both there!

its not very loud

I bought my car stock and there was no psssstt noise just the turbo winding up, then i got a front mount intercooler and a turbosmart vee port blow off valve and its not plumb back and i had the blow off valve noise, it also makes a fluttering noise depending on how i use the throttle. Then i put the pod filter on and there is a huge difference on the induction noise and with the bonnet up, i reved it a little and u can hear like a wastegate fluttering noise coming from the pod filter... that may be the noise your hearing, coming from the pod?

take my word for it, it wasn't the wastegate that the fluttering noise was coming from.

Spot on.

Please search function, as im closing this one before it gets too much more incorrect information in it.

This topic comes up regularly... and as usual there are people that are not sure what they are talking about and posting mis-information like.. "its the wastegate flutter", the "BOV is the wastegate" etc etc.

If you are not sure about something, dont mis-lead others.

Thanks.

There is no such thing as wastegate flutter, or anything thats "like" wastegate flutter... as simply put

A wastegate

a) does not flutter

b) make flutter

c) have anything to do with flutter in any sense of the word.

drag-on silvia is correct.

If you are unsure, go have a read and understand how a turbo system works.
