How can we not have a bloody clue?? the whole ITV gang wouldn't shut up about him. The whole of England would suck his cock when he demands it.

We all know of his acomplishments when he was in karting and GP2 etc etc and how his dad works 48 hours a day to finanace his racing career and come home and work another 48 hours at nighttime with no sleep. I think the reason why some people don't want to see him win is because we all like to see racers climb from the bottom to the top to prove himself. I'm pretty sure every racer in the paddock at the moment is thinking "Who the hell is this little shit coming in here taking the best car and coming out looking like a hero, give me a maclaren and I'll show you the same thing."

I really hope he doesn't get on the podium next round so that we can see how he handles it.

I dont think anybody is looking to cut him down, i think its more the fact that people's perception is that he hasn't had to struggle in a minor team and really work for his success and climb his way to the top like so many others before him, his teammate for example. Nobody likes the new kid coming in and stealing 'the thunder' as most people see it, unjustifiably.

Alonso, Kimi, Massa (espicially massa), Fisi etc etc all had to get into an F1 car and figure out the best race setup, wet setup, quali setup for themselves in an alien team with nobody holding their hand throught he process. Thats how you develop respect as a driver and a racer. To most people Lewis bypassed these steps and jumped straight into a WDC winning car and had it all done for him, no setup knowledge required... Ill bet that if NO information sharing happened in the Mclaren garage, theres no way Lewis would be where he is on the WDC table.

People will like him over time, but as it stands now the crap that we're force fed every two weeks is getting to be a bit much

Thats right, he has walked into the Mclaren seat when their reliability is stella, the car is quick and the tyres are working for the car. Ferrari are doing well but there isnt no MS. Renault have fallen over. So he is driving the car to its full potential. No less can be said for the guys further down the grid like Rubens etc. Only he has been fortunate enough to take the stepping stone into the top team at the right time. He didnt even have to go up against a team mate established in the team. In fast Lewis probably has more history with the team.

i suppose Ron had no idea why he and mercedes of all companies invested so much time and resources on a kid who would one day just walk the red carpet and lead the world championship at his first attempt.

He has been racing a long time, how is that different from so many of the other top guys out there? He has had top level support for most of his career. He has had drives for the top teams...he has afforded himself these opportunities because of the results he has seen. But having a polisehd resume of wins is made easier, i have not said easy, but easier when you have top level support and backing. Is it a measure of his talent. Of course, no one backs a deadbeat, otherwise i would be in F1. But you cant deny a portion of his success can be attributed to the teams/support he has been in. LOL like Mansell and Hill. You cant deny the teams gave them the championship because of the dominant car they were driving. Doesnt make them any lesser a WDC, but thinking big picture...it was hardly a straight up fight.

Hey, McLaren has had a whole bunch of talented drivers on their rookie books over the years. And McLaren has always been reluctant to give them seats. Namely Kimi and Nick of late...both were farmed out to other teams for their first seasons. (Sauber). Were they less talented or less ready? I would say no. McLaren/Dennis wants the payback for their investment now so Lewis was given the seat. Imagine if Lewis was given another seasons testing whilst Kimi and Alonso raced for McLaren this year. Then next year was farmed out to Prodrive for his Rookie season. There would be his year of character building racing with DNFs and banging tyres with Spyker etc etc.

Frankly, I don't really care if that comment pisses you off.

All I'm saying is that, myself and a lot other F1 fans would like to see him earn his godly reputation by fighting through the bad times as well as the good times. I never said I'd like to see him fail so don't put words in my mouth, I just want to see how he goes about it when things are not perfect. Regardless of what you think of the attitude, it's human nature, I'm just saying what a lot of people don't want to say.

It is pretty common to make the accusation that a new driver and/or anyone that is starting to make an impact has a glass jaw. Watch for the Hamilton critics come out with that the first time he runs into some difficulties.

They were pretty quiet when he put it into the wall at Monaco

He's made enough small errors now that i dont think his first big one will make any impact on fans love/hate for him

we can see his character when being interviewed. Hes polite, well spoken, humble and tearing open the establishments and their preconceived notions and ideals.

Whilst not a big fan of Alonso…he had some races where you walked away impressed by the driving, not just the dominance of the team.

you may be right and this is a good indicator as to a level of attack young Lewis may or may not be used to yet..

Alonso takes off the gloves...

....After nine races Alonso trails Hamilton by 12 points in the Drivers' Championship even though both drivers have won two races.

Hamilton, however, has performed more consistently than his team-mate, finishing all nine events in the top-three. Alonso on the other hand has finished three grands prix off the podium.

The Spaniard, though, believes Sunday's result in Britain, which saw him finish more than half a minute ahead of his rookie team-mate, is evidence that he is now leading the McLaren team-mate battle and will go on to win the World title.

"Sooner or later we'll close up the gap," the reigning F1 Champion told AS newspaper.

"Since Canada I have been a bit faster than him. At Indianapolis I couldn't overtake him, and at Magny-Cours I had a gearbox problem. Here we had a normal race and I finished over 30 seconds ahead of him.

"There are favourable races coming up now, like Germany and Hungary and the aim is to finish ahead of Hamilton and reduce the gap.

"With normal races, sooner or later I will reduce the gap. I must be on the podium always one step higher than him."

He added: "It's good that the Championship leader has more difficulties on track, and especially here in England and after pole."

Hamilton, though, isn't the only obstacle standing between Alonso and a third successive World title. "We can't forget the Ferraris, who have been faster than us again," he concluded.

Its good to see tha Fearris back in form the last 2 races...lets hope they can at least give the McLarens a run for their money to make the rest of the year interesting.

Im no Macca fan but I am enjoying Hamiltons year...he so seems level headed to for a guy who has just turned into a mega star...he is 2nd only to Beckam in the English press for media coverage....i also enjoy the fact he is giving in to Alonso.

Ive been watching this sport closely for 20 years and i cannot think of one driver who made as great an impact in his rookie year as Hamilton has.

and, no it takes two hands to hold my whopper so i wouldnt have been able to type it at all...
