Illegal floor in Melbourne.

Not quite, the floor passed scrutineering in Melbourne, therefore was legal, McLaren asked for a clarification on the rule that governed the floor mounting systems (Using Ferrari's own tech drawings, redone, as they wanted to use the same system for their floors) the FIA then decided that the tolerences used for measuring the floors flex would be changed, thus rendering the Ferraris (and two other teams) floors illegal. As this happened after the race (and tipped the FIA onto McLaren having illegal infomation on the Ferrari's) the Ferraris raced at Melbourne in a legal configuration and where not excluded.

The floor was ruled illegal by the FIA. Otherwise everyone would be using the locating system now.

I am of the view that the rules are there to be followed. Deliberately engineering a way around the testing system by using pre-buckled (Not sure what the exact term was in the end) locators in obvious contravention to the rule (just passes the test, obviously violates the intent) is a pretty shabby way of going about things. Ferrari have gotten away with this sort of shit too much in the past few years. It is not the 1980's anymore.

Whatever peoples view of the floor, the way Ferrari happilly used their disregard for the rules to try to prove their claim (In collusion with the FIA) that McLaren brought the sport into disrepute was disgraceful. After all these are the same people who convinced the FIA (at a critical stage of last years championship) that Renault's mass dampers (located inside the bodywork) constituted an aerodynamic device.

Im with blackrex on this one. My reading of the situation at the time was that the Ferrari was legal. After the McLaren appeal they confirmed the ruling and made a change. Ferrari did nothing wrong

Without Ferrari F1 loses 70% of its world audience end of story. Bernie plays to this and why wouldnt he...Ferrari are the Team to either love or hate(I love them) and without them F1 would just be a bunch of boring Pommy Garagistas running around. So of course they get away with a bit more....but then again there are no McLaren documents floating around Marenello so go easy when you start talking about cheating

Your argument appears to be that because a bunch of mindless rock apes who don't know enough about F1 to differentiate an engine from a pair of tits support the only team they have heard of the governing body should allow Ferrari to get away with blue murder? Presumably punishing others for being competitive aswell. It is bad enough that they keep shovelling money at them.

I used to support Ferrari. When Prost went there to drive the John Barnard designed 640 (Surely one of the prettiest F1 cars ever built) I was more than happy to see him win races & somewhat crestfallen when he couldn't bag the championship. Unfortunately after they sacked Barnard & then Prost it went downhill. In fact, any lingering integrity they may have had went into terminal decline when they signed all those dodgy bastards from Benetton.

F1 doesn't need Ferrari anymore than any other class or category of racing needs any one team or car company. F1 has survived the departure of Alfa Romeo, Mercedes Benz, BMW, Honda, Jaguar, Ford, Renault, Lamborghini, Maserati to name but a few. It has survived the loss of great teams like Lotus, Brabham, Cooper, Alfa Romeo (again), Tyrrell, BRM. It has over the years survived the downsizing of the entries from anything up to 40 cars to less than 20. It has survived the loss of brilliant drivers like Clark, Rindt, Peterson, Villeneuve, Senna amongst a host of others. F1 would easilly survive Ferrari departing - something you couldn't say of Ferrari.

Tifosi is basically the Italian translation for bogan.

Funny how the FIA investigated what Stepney had to say about McLaren, but couldn't be arsed lifting a finger to do anything about what he said of Ferrari. Bottom line is all the teams routinely expend a great deal of time & effort finding out what the others are doing. Ferrari included.

Apparently the appeal is set for November 15. I don't hold out any hope that the FIA will reach a proper verdict.

Hamilton seems happy to gloss over the shot he took at Alonso at Hungary....and doesnt seem to acknowledge that it was the turning points of things turning ugly, where previously it had been competitive

It was probably always destined to turn pear shaped after Hamilton showed he was as quick as Alonso. Not many evenly matched drivers who are in the same team and are championship contenders get along. I can't actually think of any at the moment. Maybe Andretti & Peterson.

Well, so many stories around. There is talk that Brawn woudl favour a move to RBR with Alonso rather then return to Todt and Ferrari, and that a move to RBR is on the cards for Alonso because of the ex Renault stafff, Newey, friendship with Webber and the fact that McLaren will not release him to a large team that may prove to be competition in 2008 :ermm:

Still, anything can happen....but i cant see Alosno wanting to sit it out at RBR for a season getting beat by Webber :dry:

I would like to see Alonso at RBR. Just so Webber could punch him repeatedly in the head when Alonso throws a tanty after being hosed by Webber.

I would even go buy a carton of Red Bull to celebrate with - Alonso getting punched, that is.

Hang on I think I would buy one just to see him GTFO of McLaren.

Personally, i want to see him at BMW with NH back to McLaren. RBR are sorted for next year and i dont think that any driver will do a better job in the equipment that DC and MW will have next year. 2009 will be interesting and RBR has Vettel and Bourdais in the wings for a seat...they dont need to waste money on Alonso...they need to spend it on engineering, infrastructure and staffing. :dry:

    • Sadly I can confirm if you are actually seeking to drift, you will quite easily spin up one wheel. Even if you're going in a straight line. I am not entirely sure of the metrics/terminology here but there's only a certain amount that the helical will actually spin both wheels. I've seen it on video with my own car where two lines of smoke switch over to just one after you really get in to it. Unlike with a clutch diff where you can keep your foot planted until the car regains grip, in my experience with the helical you want to be utilizing traction control allowing LIMITED slip or lifting (partially) when you start to spin up both tyres with a Nissan helical. Which makes them pretty sub optimal for drifting duty. That said... this is probably a helical on numbers alone. Just put the Kazz in

    • Unlikely, as per Greg's post. This is not helical diff behaviour unless one wheel is up off the ground. Shimming what? You don't "shim" a mechanical LSD. Probably not in the sense that you have heard of people "shimming" a diff. And the process that Nissan f**kwits call "shimming" a diff involves super-preloading a VLSD cartridge against the side of the diff to create a friction/wear point (in a place that it wasn't supposed to have one) to make the sloppy, useless, viscous diff into a hybrid viscous/mech abortion. In case it isn't clear, I consider the process to be stupid. Nike.
    • How much does the shifter move when the car is in gear with the engine off? If it is more than about 1cm you need to replace your shifter bush. Your shifts will just get crunchier, not faster, with a short shifter unless you also rebuild the whole box
