2007 F1 Season

Recommended Posts

I personally don't want to see webber in the McLaren, it would be a waste to a perfectly good car.

Really? Waste of a good car? Id sy a bigger waste is the likes of Fisi in a Renault, or Wurz in the Williams (which pains me to say as i like Wurz....but his team mate is running circles around him...only he has been wiley enough to get two good results and a boat laod of points)

As it stands at the moment i dont think there is anything that Massa can do in a Ferrari that Webber couldnt do...possibly better. Who knows about the like of Kimi??? I dont believe Webber is as good as Alonso or Hamilton...but he is a damn sight better then Heidfeld,

So wast of a good seat? I think thats way too harsh, as whilst Webber isnt the best driver in F1, i think he has the potential to be one of the best 3. At present i rate him n the best 5, and it seems so do the teams as he sits just outside a seat for the fastest two teams.

I'm just not sure about him, Yes he has had some good qualifying results and the odd podium, but his cars tend to break down more than his team mates - and its always the cars fault, i can understand if it is most of the time. However his continuing complaining in the media about how the car is always at fault will make him a liability for the larger teams. Do you think McLaren want a driver that will get a DNF and every time stand up and say that the car failed him?? and when he does finish it is rarely in the points

If he can get a solid year with constant points then i may change my opinion.

If anyone i would like to see Heidfeld in the McLaren. He has come a long way in the past few years at BMW. But both Alonso and Lewis are contracted for a few more years to come

Back in a past lifetime, Nick used to be my No.1 man. I thought he was d1cked big time by McLaren when they took Kimi over him after their time at Sauber. Then when Webber sat alongside Nick at Williams i thought to myself "Well Marks days are numbered. This is his first real team mate in F1" And much to my dismay i thought Webber showed him a clean set of heals. I was looking for excuses for Nick, but there werent any. He simply didnt have the pace that Webber did...and Nick in my eyes dropped to being a good driver and Webber jumped to the point where i started thinking myabe it wasnt just Aussie Press BS. He is in my eyes clearly better then Nick.

Of all the maybe drivers in F1, about the only guy left in a nothing car is Webber. Fisi showed potential for years. His test came with Renault and he has failed. Massa has risen to the occassion at Ferrari. Nick failed alongside Webber at Williams. I recall Thiessen saying they wanted Webber as well as Nick when he set up BMW/Sauber but Williams wanted no part of it. Who else, Button has shown he can do the job when the Honda is on song, but its been years since Honda have been in the top 3 manufacturers. He seems to be struggling to match the pace of Rubens this year. Wurz had promise at Benneton, then went testing then came back with Mclaren and Williams...and isnt shining.

DC had his chance at McLaren and Williams in their prime...so really, Webber is the only guy still running around who has shown promise and hasnt had the break in the right car. What had Fisi and Nick done to steal their current seats? Williams i think may have ruined Webbers career. He chose them over Renault, good decision at the time as Williams/Montoya had finished the year strongly...and then again when he was still under contract which meant that when Thiessen/BMW jumped ship from Williams to Sauber that Thiessen couldnt take Mark with him,. Instead Nick got the seat.

Anyway, Mark will make RBR work fo rhim. He has to. There is no other team that will take him

i think thats half of my problem. The fact that they glorify him scoring a 9th place ect just seems to highlight the lack of results that he's getting.

RBR still looks like it is a few years away from consistent podium abilities. and if Webber can make it work for him it will be interesting. Especially as he will more than likely be getting a new team mate in the near future. Hopefully it is someone he can get to work with him to get the cars to a level where they are able to get him a string of good positions.

12 August 2007 prediction...Vettel or Bourdais will graduate from STR and will both be equally capable of doing a great job alongside Webber in 2009. I think Bourdais will get the nod though simply because he is vastly more experienced. Next years car will have them racing for 3rds and 4ths, next year will be the start of a rough patch for Ferrari where they drop to the 3rd or 4th quikest team. Mclaren will be on level footings with BMW, and RBR racing Ferrari and Renault. Despite Williams hsowing well this year, i think they will struggle next year unless they get a big injection of cash soon, otherwise they will turn into the new Minardi. Where youg talented huys with money can be placed to get seat time...but pulled the minute they have the experience...not helping Williams get back up to contend for WDC

the fact that webber is still in F1 at all considering he has no massive cash, has only scored 2 podiums and is usually around 10th in the WDC means that the teams know that he is a gun driver waiting for a decent car. otherwise he would have been turfed a few years ago. I agree with troy. Webber is a top 5 driver in a bottom 5 car.

Fernando Alonso, who is at loggerheads with his McLaren co-driver Lewis Hamilton, has been told by boss Ron Dennis that he can leave the Formula One team at the end of the season, a report claims.

The double world champion's future is up in the air as his relationship with Hamilton broke down at the Hungarian Grand Prix last weekend when he was penalised for his part in trying to prevent the Briton from starting in pole.

British newspaper The Times quoted what the paper described as a 'well-placed' source as confirming Alonso may quit the team two years ahead of schedule.

"My understanding is that he's been told he can go because they're so fed up with him. Ron is just very pissed off with both of them (Alonso and Hamilton)," the source said.

The comments follow Alonso's confirmation that his future at the British team was uncertain.

The unsettled Spaniard, asked by sports daily Marca if he was planning to stay with McLaren, replied: "I don't know."

Two likely destinations for Alonso if he were to sever his ties with McLaren are Renault, with whom he won his two world titles, and BMW, who are yet to contract German Nick Heidfeld for 2008.

The F1 rumour mill began to work overtime following a controversial weekend's racing in Hungary with Hamilton emerging the winner after replacing Alonso on pole position following a steward's inquiry.

Alonso, who trails Hamilton by seven points in the race for the 2007 drivers' crown, was penalised five grid positions for blocking Hamilton and preventing him completing a final qualifying lap.

McLaren said the delay at the pit-stops in qualifying was Hamilton's fault, for causing confusion in the team by disobeying an order to let Alonso pass him ahead of the pit stops.

In for the long haul at McLaren Mercedes

Fernando Alonso's manager has played down press speculation that the disgruntled reigning world champion could immediately quit McLaren.

With the 26-year-old Spaniard's relationship with the Mercedes-powered outfit at an all time low after the Hungarian Grand Prix, his manager Luis Garcia Abad told the newspaper El Pais that Alonso is not planning to leave McLaren any time soon.

Spanish newspapers had also reported that Abad recently met with Renault's Flavio Briatore about a possible return for Alonso to the French team, but he insists: "We are in McLaren to win races and the third title.

"That's our goal. And in these moments there aren't that many options: just McLaren and Ferrari.

"

Abad said he spoke to Dennis earlier this week to clarify reports that the Woking team's principal told Alonso in Hungary that he is now free to walk away from his three-year contract at the end of the season.

"He told me what has been published is not true. His intention is that the contract is fulfilled," said Abad.

The group is working to introduce the revised aerodynamic rules, which will also outlaw flaps, chimneys, winglets and bargeboards for 2010, but there is the possibility of bringing the designs forward a year if progress continues to be as rapid as present.

looks like overtaking may become more regular in the races. It could make the racing more interesting, at least towards the end of the pack.

I got an email from my mate who works in McLraen, apparently Ron is on the war path with everyone at the moment. Got a few nice High Res pics of the cars aswell :(

webber has been quicker than all his teammates in F1. you can't do much more than that.

incorrect. i believe heidfeld made webber look pretty average in race conditions during his second year at williams before the german was yanked by a "harumph" bicycle injury..

Compromise right? I ran the room calibration with the door closed etc. and you could tell the room EQ correction slapped on more mid and treble. With Yamaha's YPAO, you can't see what has been applied to the EQ with correction applied, where as the older Audessey it showed you the post correction EQ.
