i have looked at the footage and i can't see webber getting super aggresive behind the SC.

i saw LH getting right up the arse of the SC then virtually stopping on the right hand side of the track.

this doesn't make it his fault but it contributed the accident.

ultimately vettel made the error and i don't think anyone is going to disagree on that front.

Why did Lewis slow down so much though and stay so much out on the right side?

Para mate, he was on the radio to ask webber to get off his backside. Mark smelt blood and understandably so. LH wanted some breathing room but i have to say, i think the way he handled the SC was amatureish. he couldve backed off the SC and kept a gap to it and then the rest of the field would have followed - they had to, but that wasnt the case.

Its my understanding that he felt hurried, rushed and called for the team to help him alleviate the situation because he wasnt able to correctly deal with it... Mark was getting impatient, sniffing that first victory and LH was on the back foot trying to preserve a points gap to FA and panicked. He still is a rookie after all... next to NO experience in the wet, leading the field with 2 to go, on the verge of a WDC and with 2 fired up red bull chargers looking to capitalize.

vettel was plainly blind when the accident happened. Rookie mistake. we shouldnt crucify him over it...im sure he had nightmares over that one.

Mark was also way too aggressive. he wanted the win and was pushing, even willing the restart, even though he didnt have control over it and that,...over LH's control of the restart.

Lewis, well weve seen some very dumb things from him, but were prone to do that - to be hyper sensitive to them - since he has come in and blown everyones expectations out of the water. Our expectations of him now are now skyhigh and we are victims of our own greed. he will make mistakes but you have to admit, its been surreal.

I attribute the blame for the accident squarely at 1/3rd EACH.

Hamilton for being such a noob behind the SC

Webber for being bloodthirsty for that first victory

Vettel for being plain blind.

well LH has it in spades. He can rattle on about this and that but at the end of the day look at the WDC standings!!!

Hes still new. He may know how to win races and he may know how to out think and out smart and out muscle "bullies" as you put them...but he wasnt used to the conditions out there... i have to make at least one concession for what happened and im being impartial.

i think his call to the garage was a smart one. Im not making excuses for him but it all ties together for me- at least in respect to the monumental accident that we all witnessed...

It doesnt take a genius to figure out why RBR didnt tell Webbo to back off...a win was on the cards! But i bet they never in their wildest dreams envisaged an outcome the likes of which we all witnessed..

mate, remember we are witnessing one of the most amazing drivers to come along in recent history, on the verge of history never being able to repeat, love him or hate him, to come along since MS debuted in the EJ 191. That was a LOOOOONG time ago.

again, cherish it i say! youll we'll all look back on this and remember it fondly!

What I find vaguely amusing is that people criticise F1 drivers for being, amongst many things,

arrogant

pushy

demanding

ultra competitive

self obsessed

selfish

greedy

All of which, uncoincidently, is the MINIMUM requirement for any sports person to get to the top rank of their sport, let alone become a champion.

So there you have it people, all that is holding any of us back is that we are nice blokes. ;)

he just did that to cover himself. he knew his deal with vettel was on, and he figured if he complained on the radio about webber driving along behind him that when his stop and smash plan went into affect he could say: "well it wasn't my fault i was peeing my panties the whole time that webber would screw up".

trust me, this is what happened. lewis is a smart guy.

Cant say I agree with attributing blame to all 3 drivers. I think its about 85% Vettel for being blind, 10% Hamilton for being so erratic up front, albet consistantyl erratic and 5% Webber for perhaps adding to LH’s anxiety and darting behind the pace car. But really, LH was doing the same thign consistantly all race, so at lap whatever you cant say you didn’t see it coming. I would loves to have heard the outrage though if Webber and RBR hadnt been so concerned about a safety car when the running was good and drove to the edge of his fuel window. Looking at the lap times he could very well got the lead exiting from the pits, but who knows what the traffic would have been like if he had of stayed out. But can you imagine the cufuffle if LH was 2nd and Webber did the exact same thing and LH was taken out by Vettel?

At the end of the day, I sure as shit don’t agree with LH being all that amazing. No doubt he is on the money and a great driver…but amazing is a word I would reserve for a resutl like Vettels if he of kept it on the balck stuff. Not a guy in the best car on the grid winning races. Doing a good job, yes…amazing? Well amazing is if Heiki in the Renault was leading. Or think back to when MS was green and the team were behind Williams/McLaren in the constructors yet he was winning races and placing high in the championship. Takes a lot of pressure of having a team on song when you are in your rookie year, you have a car that lets you show your wares and all you have to do is drive. No silly startegy calls, tyre choices…failures etc have hurt him this year and a McLaren is the seat that most the grid would be winning races in.

Well the front right hand wheel falling off in Germany didn't help....

Anyway, in other news, not that I would believe Nigel Stepney, but on the basis of this maybe BMW should be the constructers champion.

In recent days we have received (unsolicited) communication from Nigel Stepney which raises a number of questions which have not been touched on in the scandal to date. Stepney says that he believes Ferrari have been let off surprisingly lightly by the FIA. He says that there is a point that everyone is missing because they are assuming that the flow of information to Mike Coughlan was a one-way flow and that Ferrari did not gain anything. There is no evidence at all that Stepney was being paid to pass on information and he says that it was rather more simple than that.

"I got information about when they [McLaren] were stopping," Stepney says. "I got weight distribution, I got other aspects of various parts of their car from him [Coughlan]. Ferrari got off very lightly. I was their employee at the time. I was aware of certain stuff they were doing at tests, fuel levels, for example. I knew what fuel level they were running. I think they should have been docked points personally. The question is: Did I use the information, did I talk about it?' That's the big question. I spoke to some people about it. I can't prove it, there are no e-mails or anything. Points about the fuel and the differences [between Ferrari and McLaren] were discussed inside. As well as McLaren having an advantage, did Ferrari have an advantage? I think so."

So is Stepney surprised that Ferrari got off entirely without penalty?

"Very surprised," he says. "It looks like information flowing only one way. No one has been balancing the argument. No one has asked the question. They were thinking Mike was asking the questions and I was answering them."

Stepney, one can argue, is a source that is seen to be somewhat tainted given all the allegations that have been made in Italy. But they are only allegations at the moment. Nothing has been proved in a proper court of law and until it is he has as much right to make his feelings known as Montezemolo.

They need...no...desperately demand a good show - for our sakes let me remind you - and a penalty for LH will add up to a grandstand finish with 3 dirvers going toe to toe for it in the final exciting chapter!!!! Great for ratings if your a follower of Friends, 24, Prison break etc etc etc ..

It is suggested that stewards have taken receipt of video proof that the British driver was 'slowing up and accelerating excessively'.

Article 40.10 of F1's Regulations reads: "The safety car shall be used at least until the leader is behind it and all remaining cars are lined up behind him. Once behind the safety car, the race leader must keep within 5 car lengths of it."

A spokesman for the sport's governing body confirmed that Hamilton is under scrutiny for failing to heed this stipulation.

    • Wideband is worth setting up if only for tuning purposes. I would not mess with the ignition system unless there's a misfire. HKS crank trigger is popular out here for the relatively easily sourced Denso crank sensor, not a bad idea to install as well regardless of power level on a standalone. Boost leak test is worth thinking about. Oil pressure sensor tied to a fuel cut isn't a bad idea either. Getting the tune figured out is a good idea. Without putting eyes on it and getting under it there's no way for us to tell you exactly what it needs but most likely you're down to the last 10% that will make a big, big difference in how happy you are with the car.

    • Any plans for E85? If so, add flex fuel sensor.   I'd probably add in the sensors I mentioned above if the Link will support using them for engine protection. With water pressure, you need to be able to effectively set it that "If temp > X, and pressure = atmospheric, shutdown" as at running temp, you should be able to read pressure in the cooling system. If pressure suddenly disappears, it means the water went some where, and this is a quicker reaction than waiting on water temp to go up (Which, can take a little longer than you'd like, considering it now has to wait for hot air to heat it up) Oil pressure, Oil temp, both would be on my list too if you're looking to add sensors. Wideband O2. And at least one EGT sensor. If you're feeling deluxe, put in individual runner EGTs. Single EGT sensor is more so forget about a specific number, get used to "What is normal EGTs", and then keep an eye on it, if it starts going away from "normal" it's a sign something is wrong (Also, things like the tune can still start going out of spec, but EGTs may not show it, for example one injector starts running leaning, so ECU richens everything up, now 5 out of 6 cylinders are rich, and running cool, with one cylinder lean and running hotter, so it's not perfect) Then there is your other things to look at non sensor related, but you may have already done, or have underway, and that would be things like building a sump for more oil, and better oil control under high G-Forces (Cornering, brakes, acceleration). Basically, the above is worth looking/thinking about, if the ECU can do protective stuff with it, and you continue to use it how you are (Drive it to the track, thrash it, drive home, repeat once every 3 to 4 months)
    • Can also confirm these work a treat for most balljoints and bushes. If you have access to a big rattle gun, they make the job so much easier and quicker, compared to using a socket wrench or shifter on the c-clamp 👍
    • Its sort of street but got used for circuit sprints on account of I never drive it on the road because I dont have the time to spare. So it usage was sits around for months at a time then gets driven either 50 or 250 kms to the track followed by 20 laps followed by 50 or 250kms home followed by stuck in the shed until next time. So yeah neither fish nor fowl. Just dont want to break it on the track as a preference. Hence the fairly short sensor/mod list. Probably more worried about it pinging itself to destruction more so than anything oil related.
