VSPEC32
Hey guys Have just posted up a thread in General Auto regarding single plate vs twin plate clutches: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...&threadid=14950 It would be great if anyone with a twin-plate in an R32 GT-R would be able to offer me a quick test drive to see what it's like - just up and down the street sort of stuff cause I'm looking for slow traffic driveability as opposed to drag launching : ) Gav, wouldn't mind testing out your clutch too, maybe the wife can do a quick test. Can do at the same time you pick up my ECU. Cheers Brendan Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/14951-need-to-test-drive-a-twin-plate/ Share on other sites
Gav
No wukkers didn't get a chance to pick up the ECU before the dyno tune. Can drop by this weekend when I'm out an' about. BTW - always happy to look after a mates missus (sAfrican American sAfrican American Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/14951-need-to-test-drive-a-twin-plate/#findComment-303595 Share on other sites
VSPEC32
Hehehe, I'm sure. Well, if you're out and about on Saturday sometime, that would be ideal. Give me a call in the morning - say about 8.30am and we'll see when we can hook up. Now, who's got a twin-plate (an OS-Giken would be even better). Cheers Brendan Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/14951-need-to-test-drive-a-twin-plate/#findComment-303600 Share on other sites
macka
GTSTVSPEC has one in his GTS But basically a twin will be essential if u want any sort of decent power out of your R in the future whether u like it or not. Dont be a poof and just buy one Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/14951-need-to-test-drive-a-twin-plate/#findComment-303635 Share on other sites
VSPEC32
Hehehe, I do want to go a twin, cause the 'R made 302rwhp on only 0.75bar before the engine went in for a rebuild. Now that I've got the injectors and z32 afm's, there's not much else holding me back. So GTSTVSPEC, wanna give me a short drive with the twin - or anyone else with a twin-plate for that matter? GTS-t VSPEC
Sure thing, if you want to experience a twin-plate then give me a buzz or catch up on a cruise and I'll let you have a taste:D See'ya:burnout: Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/14951-need-to-test-drive-a-twin-plate/#findComment-303716 Share on other sites
macka
Hey Strich9 Ross didnt stock those clutches then so he didnt give me an option Me and Immacul8 got the same clutch.. GTS-t VSPEC
Macka, You should buy a twin-plate:bahaha: See'ya:burnout: Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/14951-need-to-test-drive-a-twin-plate/#findComment-303822 Share on other sites
Gav
Gotta admit that Ross's ceramic clutch that I've got in feels deceptively "non-heavy duty". Very nice to drive - feels stock. Hope I'm wrong, but I suspect that I'll wear the sucker out within a year. On a cost/benefit basis tho' yearly replacement is cheaper than a new twin plate every 2 years. N I B
OS and HKS twins drive very well the HKS is the smoothest. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/14951-need-to-test-drive-a-twin-plate/#findComment-304137 Share on other sites
VSPEC32
Steve What's the take-up like on the twins, if you had to put a distance to it between initial friction and fully clamped, what would it be - say about 10mm or more. My RG clutch would be about 10mm of friction before being fully clamped. macka
SteveSST i like your comments ive just been talking about the smooth hks take up with a mate he is probably lurking the forums now... Sounds like the hks twin is the go do u agree? Gav i think ur on the money if u want more power from the 4wd your new clutch will be as spongey as my 2500lb pressure plate in 3 months Ah well deal with it when it happens Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/14951-need-to-test-drive-a-twin-plate/#findComment-304208 Share on other sites
N I B
We put an ajustable block on the floor under the clutch pedal to limit the travel as there is a smaller take up and after you get use to it you will love it. HKS clutches are very bad for a while after you fit them as thay need to bed in( first day) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/14951-need-to-test-drive-a-twin-plate/#findComment-304286 Share on other sites
macka
Nice... Sorry for whoring thread what would be a good price steve to pick one up for say a price one with lotsa meat left and one that needs a rebuild, both with flywheels attached. N I B
Don't know 2nd hand but I get my new ones from Xspeed but $1500 at a guess for a good one 2nd hand. They cost to much to rebuild so don't go with a rebuilder. VSPEC32
Well ladies and gents, we've made a decision on what clutch we're going with. Thanks to Paul and Brett for lending us the keys to the rides for a test of two twin-plate clutches. Paul's has an OS-Giken in it and it was rather easy to control, partly attributed to the power-assisted clutch in the Skyline. I was half comparing to the standard GT-R clutch, and the RG clutch in the Silvia and it came in about half way. Brett's clutch is an unknown twin at this point, and was pretty much close to a standard feel. All in all the wife was pretty happy with the decision to go the twin plate OS-Giken. Thanks again for all the comments.
