Now I know there will probably be a lot of bias being a Skyline Forum... but im stuck :wave:

Have the opportunity to waste my hard earned cash on one of the following:

1. JUN RB28 Kit - To Build a Spare Bottom End for my R32.

2. 1985 Corvette Shell - No Box or Engine, Missing Passenger Seat and Windscreen.

My old man and I are currently finishing up our Buick Project, fully resto'd 1963 Buick Riviera with a 425 Wildcat, HoK Paintjob, Boyd Cottington American Racing Wheels, White Leather Everything... nothing spared, there is not 1 part that has not been taken apart and reconditioned or bought new. Matching Numbers the full deal.

The Buick is kinda stock, exhaust mild cams just a nice cruiser, year model = same year my dad was born. Next car we wanna build is gonna be all about speed (another musclecar). Thought It would be cool to grab the Corvette as its year model = the year I was born and put a big blown thumper in there its already got a full fibreglass body and is mostly complete.

Or... Taking a week off January 9th - 15th to complete my R32... full custom widebody fresh paintjob 500+hp RB25 (Trust Built)... Everything done, literally everything... oh cept brakes but there coming. JUN Stroker Kit has come up at a good price and I like the idea of a stroked rb26 bottom end as a spare if this one ever goes bang, and getting a new turbo setup to chase some bigger numbers. Something like a HKS GT3240 new manifold etc chase an extra 50hp as im using the t67-25g (old plain bearing big trim) trust job atm.

...Spare Engine, or New Project Car, why is god so cruel making me choose :woot:

Inside of the brake drums lol... shows you how pedantic my old man is, colour coding shit your never gonna see replacing them all with new components.... nutcase.

Anyway i think i spammed enough pics lol.

I personally don't like the 1980s fibreglass Corvette

How about a 69 Camaro? :woot:

You seen the price, like hell yer id do one, but I dont think what im paying for the 85 Corvette is gonna be enough to cover a 69 Camaro :wave:

jerrys85-001-400.jpg

Thats the model, fibreglass body, i actually liek the look, specially the ass end.

Well i have a R33 GTST series 2 skyline and i also have a 1981 corvette.....

Now i love the vet no question but since i have bought the skyline im driving it less and less....

Nothing beats the felling of driving the vet the looks u get are great but its so old! lol its bumpy, rattely etc

Go the engine u already have a weekend car in the buick (looks great) so do the skyline.....

why dont you get your self an original godzilla and restore that? slap the stroked bottom end in it, and youve got your self a hell fast car that looks great.

My Old Man is not a fan of Jap Cars, like he respects them and appreciates the time effort and money invested in them etc. But he is a yank tank kinda guy, loves his V8's and I wanted it to be a joint venture, he bought the buick and pretty much paid for all the parts so we could build it together, so I was gonna return the favour buy the corvette and pay for the parts so we could work on that together again since the buicks done now.

But I still cant bring myself to say no to an RB28 lol... and that godzilla idea is pretty sweet too so now i got even more ideas :laugh: your not helping!!!! hahaha

Here's my 2 cents,

Being a yank myself I'm a bit partial to the vette seeing that I owned one as well I loved the car. I had no rattles in mine. Souped up the engine with some minor mods and was pushing 400+ ponies.

You have got to remember that a vette is a fast car not a quick car. Vettes were made going fast and handling. they pull a 1g on the skid pad. Being a IRS car if you put too much grunt there you'll just snap the U joints and mess up your half shafts. You can change the rear out and put the straight axle on it but you'll lose on handling. You want a monster fast track car get a camaro. Millions of parts and aftermarket stuff. If your planning into just barely dipping onto the 10's I thing the Vette half shafts will stand but you have to get the super heavy duty U joints. But just to have something different go the vette I see skylines all the time and if I see a sweet looking line its got my attention, but since only a few people own vettes here it is a stand out car no matter what year it is. if you do the same with that your old man did with buick you'll be a pimping mofo.

Back home there is a saying among vette owners, "There are two kinds of people in the world. Vette owners and those that wish they were."

After having one I have to agree.

'vette...

plenty of 'lines around... though the rb28 would be hell nice.

My Dad laughs at 2L cars as well. but he had a 13 sec monaro in the late 80's, so I guess I'll forgive him.

The 2.8 stroker would prove to your father that that 'monster torque' feel that comes with a big block v8 can almost be reached with a much smaller displacement... and the same peak power...

I still vote the 'vette. Either way, pics!!!

The saying also goes for GTR owners.

I personally being an owner of a gtr given the opportunity would go for the Vette.

That is if I were in your position, lets face it not every-one can restore a car and looking at those Pics.

you have your dad by yourself that can make this dream come true.

The RB28 stroker kit is a great way to put some ponies into your car, but a restoration and personal finish you have on the Vette will be fantastic,

My 2 cents

:(

I took an 86 model corvette for a drive when I was at my old workshop. All I can say is that it rattled bad, and the RHD conversion was abosolutely disgraceful. Panels didnt meet, they were loose, and it just felt tacky.

I would be looking for an old Mustang shell...... Thats my other dream car (other then a R34 GTR).

Cheers

After speaking with my dad, checking parts availability and price think im pretty set on the vette, the skyline is quick enough in reality, and if i keep pumping money into it, its just gonna be a never ending project that owes me too much money. Gonna take my week off finish it up, get it painted and be happy with the 500+hp it already has.

We had a HG Monaro with a supercharged 350chev (street driven) that did 10.8's, joint venture between my dad, myself and my uncle david... my goal is to nail that, i wanna dip under that and ill be happy. In a full fibre bodied vette, with a decently modified 350 and the drivetrain taken care of should be a walk in the park.... ill let you guys know what i do finally end up doing lol.... still not 100% convinced/decided.

Mmmmmmm 350TT.... :P

Buick = Cruiser

Skyline = Drifter

Corvette = Dragger

Pretty sure my minds made up, waiting on some prices for shipping and a few parts im worried about costing me an arm and a leg to get sent over from the states, but I think I've made my mind up... skyline is fast enough, its a built engine as it is and im not willing to throw more money down the toilet modifying it, I've already spent unjustifiable amounts, and ill be happy with where it will be once its painted end of this month, been off the road and in the build for the best part of a year, time to just enjoy it and build another car.

(plus a mate just offered me a fully built 355 stroker built specifically for a big charger for a price i cannot say no too lol)

    • H2 (for cars) will never happen. It's not reasonable for any number of reasons. It's also not reasonable for almost all of the industrial uses that the fanbois say that it will be used for, again for a large number of reasons. There are some cases where it will be good. But, even those will be massively hampered by the economics. The only way that H2 can be economic is if we somehow manage to get from where we are to the other side of the economic-valley-of-death in which no-one can operate. You need there to be sufficient renewable generated electricity to be available so that it is effectively free. Once you are there, you can do whatever the hell you want and hang the efficiency. But until you get there, the ever diminishing value of electricity makes it harder and harder to encourage businesses to build the new generation capacity, and they will simply stop investing in generation projects. (I kinda think there needs to be just government money spent on building the required capacity in a non-commercial way, similar to how the first fossil fueled grids were built, as national-government owned utilities. And probably some nuclear in there to start. But this all should have started 10-15 years ago to avoid the chasm of death that we face right now). Synth fuels will be much more likely, but will only occur is there is at least some renewable H2 production, because you need H2 to do it. And you need stacks of free (or at least extraordinarily cheap) energy because assembling molecules back into fuels is exactly the opposite process to burning the fuel, and the reason we burn fuels is because there is so much energy squeezed into each molecule. So you're somewhat subject to the same economic valley of death problem as above anyway. That is unless people are willing to pay the current equivalent of $5 or $6 per litre of petrol-ish liquid fuels. Can you imagine it? The squealing at $2 now is bad enough.
    • This is so cool. Get a dashcam that records audio and hopefully you'll catch it.  Maybe there's a brand or some kind of markings on the back ? Are the pics hand drawn? I love it so much.
    • Hahaha yep, point(s) taken. I just like seeing different things and an EV in an R32 is pretty different. I'm not on the EV band wagon, I'm waiting for synthetic fuels or hydrogen personally.
    • I mean it's probably likely that people overestimate their skills in dialling in a setup and noticing the changes. I had SK shocks and springs, and added heavier springs and got them revalved by Sydney Shocks to suit based upon what I told them I wanted the car to handle like. I got back a completely different feeling set of shocks, which probably (?) feel great on track but holy hell are they rough on tram tracks and the like. The shock dyno actually looks pretty similar to Shockworks (from what I can surmise from a screenshot of a youtube video - and my dyno printout...) Truth be told I doubt I'd be any faster or slower with either setup, or camber/castor combination. I also had whiteline eccentric castor bushes up front of my R34. I removed them and put in poly non-adjustable ones to soothe my OCD (nobody ever set the castor the same side to side, and it'd be near impossible to do) and be happy the wheel is centered in the well now for clearance reasons. Yes I wanted it to move 1mm 'back' :p I've effectively set my castor back to stock, negating all the benefits of that which is supposedly massive. I've probably also altered toe and camber in a negative (detrimental) way. I can't tell any difference steering the car.
