Not picking on you exclusivly here dude, but... This is a car site, so I think this needs to be addressed, to everyone who makes this mistake read the below.

Brakes is what stops your car.

If your brakes dont work, you break your car.

So lets go over that again. On a car its Brake. In music is breaks.

Dave, I was kidding...

I just sunk a heap of cash into upgrading my own breaks, and im running a bog stock engine, remember?

Ahh my bad.

In that case...

Who really cares about a few spelling mistakes on an internet forum - and to forget a S on the end of breaks is more a typo then a spelling mistake, or a gramatical error. Again, its an internet forum, were here for the most part to have a casual chat, its *not* the Australian High Court and *noone is going to die* if I miss an s on the end of breaks.

I didnt really think anyone would be that pedantic about it...

Dude, its not the 's'. You are spelling the whole word wrong.

If it was a big crazy word that has nothing to do with cars and you would use twice in your life fair enough. But its brakes.

Let me try again.

BRAKES (read, say it, spell it out it b-r-a-k-e-s) are the round bits and the calipers that stop your car.

BREAKS (read it, say it spell it out b-r-e-a-k-s) is like a lunch break, a bone break, etc. NOTHING to do with stopping a car.

So many people on here stuff it up, as I said dude, I am not picking on just you here!

(that or you got me hook line and sinker)

No, but you are treating me in a demeaning, insulting and childish manner (read, say it etc) in public (could of easily been addressed over a PM if it really irks you that much) over something that means nothing. Youll forgive me if I think your topping it a bit rude, to put it nicely.

But I tell you what, if I was to go through your most recent posts and see if I could find any *gramatical* errors (Note: The spelling of the words was correct. Its not that I could not spell, its that I picked the wrong word, since were being pedantic about everything I guess so did you) would I find any? I Guess I kind of just did, but oh well....

Its a forum for christs sake, on the internet. There is alot worse and will continue to be alot worse then me at grammar and spelling on here. If your so concerned about every post being a thesis on english, prehaps you should also sign up to a swanky crowd such as http://eggcorns.lascribe.net/forum who discuss the meanings of words all day. Wow, such excitement.

breaks arent important when building a fast car daveo, dont you know that?

Mike you were going to buy the MX5 from the word go with this thread. The majority vote was for a 32 GTR, yet you completly discarded this and went with the MX5 anyway.

Im not saying dont buy what you want and im not saying follow the trend or popular oppinion, but why ask for it when you dont particually care what everyone says? Or was it just to see if your MX5 idea was popular?

In any case, you will need much better breaks then the stock MX5 ones, and forgies and B6T rods from the outset, otherwise this project will just end in tears.

the mx5 was my original idea ian, but then i started thinking about other cars. so i decided to see what was out there and peoples opinions on them all.

its not that i have completely discarded the gtr or skylines. i wanted to see others opinions on my idea and other vehicles. i am trying to keep an open mind about it all. i have never driven any of the vehicles listed so i needed a little info on everything. i knew the gtr would be the favourite, but i wanted to see why. people always say there are really good, and i knew if i put it in there people would say why its so good. to be honest i was leaning towards the mr2 at one point.

i actually decided a few days ago that i didnt want to go AWD again, not yet. that was the turning point. also, i think the gtr is a little outta my price range right now. 16k wouldnt get me a really good condition one.

I think the only initial upgrade he needs to do is slotted rotors and heavy duty pads, unless he wants to do circuit then he will have to up grade.

this is what we are putting in the mx5

* Wilwood Dynalite forged 4 piston billet aluminum calipers in the front.

* Stainless Steel caliper pistons for superior resistance to thermal conductivity.

* Billet Aluminum caliper mounting brackets made from T6061 aluminum.

* 11.0 " lightweight two piece rotors with billet hats for the front.

* 10.75 " lightweight two piece rotors with billet hats for the rear.

* Stainless steel braided brake lines reduced weight 8lbs in front and 2 lbs in the rear.

* Wilwood "Q" pads with patened nu-cap retention system.

* Q pads are rated to 800 degrees.

that is costing $2150. i have to order it from sydney. so i have thought about the brakes and found this package already to go for me.

i havent included things like suspension, brakes and other items because there is not much left to decide on. my mate seamus has been doing some research on it all for me along with a few other friends. the only thing we couldnt decide on for certain was what kind of engine. even now, we are still debating whether to go to the 1.8 still.

the reason i started this thread is to get as much information as possible from all of you. then use all that to make my decision.

oh, and did you have fun spamming me guys  keep it to whoretown would ya

    • The German place in Cabramatta was rock solid, fresh pretzel cooked to order back then. Then it went all quiet, after all the poker machines were removed, then I believe it closed for good. I did drive past the other week and noticed outdoor lighting a big screen, but no idea what is there now.
    • Yeah I suspect even if you hold airmass per cycle/cylinder constant if you get too far away from stock you're still going to have problems running the factory tune within the bounds of the factory load scale. Cams, different displacement/rod ratio, etc. I'm just lucky that the GTIII-SS with wastegate boost + CA compliance cats is pretty much equivalent to stock turbos. When I have actual space I can finally get it tuned and modify the fuel system for flex fuel to 100% handle any detonation concerns when cranking the boost to whatever those dinky turbos can put out.
    • I would say no, why, because my daughter, who also lives in Goulburn, hasn't recommended us going there Pity, as we miss all the German joints around in Sydney, actually, the restaurants are the only thing I really miss about Sydney, and a special mention to Ishibanboshi at Bondi Junction, their Kara-age Don is heart cloggingly deliciousness (always added a special boiled egg...or 2) 😋
    • Does that German restaurant still exist in the old place out the NW end of Goulburn? When I say "out the NW end of"...I am really being vague. It was 1997 when I was last there, and the only point of reference I can recall is that it was on the opposite side of the main drag from the big merino. And when I say "opposite side of the main drag", I don't mean "on the main drag". It was either a couple of streets back from there, or might have even been out in the sticks a bit further. Was an old farm building or mill or somesuch. And when I say "the big merino" I might actually be thinking of a completely different part of town, because I just looked on maps and the big bugger is not where I remembered him to be! The food was good, consisting largely of various German mystery-meat sausage/loaf things and kartofflen.
    • So while the second sentence is completely correct and the whole point of the conversation, the first sentence bears consideration. If this bloke is just hoping to throw big turbos on and drive it around, because there are no helpful facilities at all in his tropical paradise** then he likely has zero chance of even knowing what the TP is on the last column in the stock maps, let alone know whether the ECU is operating anywhere near it or past it. So the point is very very moot. And, per what I said before, at stock boost on those turbos, you may well be off the end of the map. **I'm just back from Vanuatu, so I know exactly what small Pacific nations can be like wrt paradise without requisite facilities. But it's not even that simple. I put a high flow on my car and had to drive it around without a proper tune because of the lack of opportunity*** to put the bigger AFM and injectors into it to allow it to be tuned. I had to turn the boost down to less than I had before, and back off the boost controller's ramp, because it was exploring parts of the map that it didn't drive in before, and really couldn't access for tuning on the dyno either, and so was pinging. It was still well within the last column, because when I first**** set up the Nistune on the Neo I rescaled all axes of the maps to give some more space to explore. ***Family dyno was broken ****This was 13 years ago, and the TIM thing wasn't a thing then and so TP would definitely grow when pushing past the stock tune's limits.
