If you weld cast then the weld will be brittle and likely crack at or near the weld line.

Also if your welding cast and its a big job [and what you intend doing is a big job in the context of things] then you will need a barrel of slake lime. The weld should be allowed to slowly cool in it, it won't stop but will help with embrittlement.

i had what you want done on my old calais turbo.. although never ended up using it as the turbo didnt fit on and i had to high mount it to fit..long story shit car,hense the gtr now..

but when mine was done looked neat as and cost me like $150 bucks....

Have you wired the wastegate fully open and taken it for a drive? Just to be sure that the wastegate is opening fully? There's definatly no leaks on your wastegate acuator feed? I had this problem on a silvia which resulted in uncontrolled boost and all the wastegate hoses had hose clamps on them.

I saw that cubes had a stock rb20 turbo on a rb30 and wired the gate fully open for the run in and only managed 6psi boost. It'd be a bugger to do all this and find the wastegate wasn't opening properly in the first place - a pretty obvious thing to look for though.

iv seen external gates on standard manifolds, on rb30s mostly. Where the flange to the turbo from the manifold is, where it all goes into one, you draw out your hole then blow it out with i think a plasma or a very high temp oxy (someone correct me) then u get a piece of pipe so you can clamp your wastegate onto it and weld it where u blew ur hole in the manifold, i think you use a tig welder or a plasma welder.

yes went for a drive with wastegate held open... still boosted up to like 15psi...i didnt push it past that though...
