Upgrade Cat or Not?

Recommended Posts

Hi Ron-15h,

It cost me $265 delivered to Melbourne so I guess it's not to bad!

Hello SydneyKid,

When I purchased my car, the cat wasn't changed and the reason from the dealer was that bcoz it was a series 2 and it didn't need changing. He said that it passed the ADR standards and emission control. So do you still think I shouldn't have changed it? I'm basically covering myself and changing the whole system just to be sure.

Do you think I'm doing the right thing by doing this?

Regards,

Gianni

Actually I just thought of something that I'll do to keep peoples minds a little clearer.

When I remove my original cat which I'm sure has never been changed from factory, I'll take pics of it and also take pics of the new high flow one before installing it, that way I'll be able to post the pics up for people to compare.

I'm sure this may have been already done but just incase I'll do it again!

Talk soon.....

just got a new hi flow 3inch cat installed. For my car, it actually maked a very noticable difference in performance. The car previously seemed choked at high revs, now it revs out a bit smoother and there is definatly more noise from 4000 rpm upwards.

Paid $200 for mine fitted if anyones interested.

i took my cat off about a month ago which apparently had been replaced under compliance (6 months ago)

the sensor was rusted in, and you couldnt see the light of day through the other end of the car. it wasnt a 3" high flow either, more a 21/4" blocking pipe. anyway i replaced mine and it made a very big difference with spool-up of the turbo however did make the exaust note louder and drone a little more...

basically it depends how bad your current cat is, if it is shit then you will get some performance gains by replacing it
