When should i upgrade my fuel pump?

My mods are:

Apexi pod

CAI

FMIC

Turbo back exhaust

Boost controller set at 9psi

Power FC coming in a few weeks.

I think at the moment ill be making 165rwkw.

Will fitting lets say a walbro 255L jobbie increase the pressure to my injectors?

I have to change the voltage too dont i?

mate walbro is bolt in replacement and very cheap to ad!... my fuel pump failed and cost me a motor. for the price of say 200 odd its well worth it and eventualy your gona need it. if you boost it i would ad a larger volume pump

talking from personal experience, at the same stage as u i had to change my fuel pump as it was on the brink of dying at that power level. Ive got a walbro, and it seems to be doing the job. either that or u can go for bosch 044 or 040. But defineitly if ur going to tune ur pfc soon, do the pump before this. No need for reg or injectors yet...and what ryan said :D

The walbro ones are good for 300rwkw arnt they?

See the FAQ/DIY section, there is a thread there showing you how. Up till 200rwkw I'd say with a new walbro you'd be OK without it. but after this you should think about doing the mod.

Do i need to change the voltage on the pump to a higher voltage?

If your gonna upgrade then dont worry about the voltage relay. It's just a neat trick for people who cant afford to upgrade their standard pump

You should upgrade the voltage line, stock or aftermarket pump IMO.

The one problem most people have when installing a bigger pump, is it does not flow the fuel thats required/specified.

The reason being is that people use the factory wiring loom for the fuel pump, and it just doesnt let the pump see the power it needs.

For you "stockish" application... its no worry generally speaking.

However, later on down the track (6-12-18months) if you change turbo and suddenly run out of fuel... you wont remember that you didnt upgrade the volts back when you did the pump, which could turn into a pain trying to work it out :laugh:

Hence i would say just get it over and done with now and save time later... but thats just what i would do

Also that Walbro will not support 300rwkw. I would not go over 240rwkw.

I had about 250 odd and pulled the return line off to see how much was flowing back to the tank when revving hard on the dyno. The flow completely stopped!

I hear what your saying........I guess I assumed that only an idiot would buy a 250KW pump for a 250KW application. Sorry for assuming

I'm letting my mechanic install my pump very soon, it's a bosch 040, do I just tell him to upgrade the voltage line also, or do i need to buy some specific wires/parts etc?

Read the FAQ, its not a case of upgrading the line [yes the mod is an upgrade, but the stock line remains the same]. What you are doing is supplying a direct voltage feed to the pump via a relay. You are using the stock wire as an on/off signal carrier.
