Hi there guys, just wondering whether there are any methods of getting the indicators to stay on for longer?

Whenever I go on a roundabout, say turning full right, at the beginning of the roundabout where i have to veer left, the indicators go back to the neutral position.. and it really bugs me cuz other motorist might think that I changed my mind on where i want to go.. and that might cause them to start driving and me driving into them..

any way to make the indicator lever not so sensitive?

cheers

hah! I hate this with a passion too!

One way i've learnt is to gently veer left... using a little bit of the other lane if there is noone in it.

Second way is to turn the wheel with my left hand, and keep my finger near the indicator stalk, and as soon as it flicks off, flick it on again. I've found that most other motorists don't notice the outage.

For all the crap that Holden cops, I have to say that at least my '93 VP V8 Berlina had a decent indicator. It would make a click sound if you turned in the opposite direction to the way that you were indicating, but not cancel... after you turned in the direction of indication, then straightened the wheel out, it would then cancel. I'm sure it's just a tiny bit of mechanics to make this work like magic (for a manufacturer), but I doubt you could modify the existing Nissan stalk to do this.

Oh god I hate it. I feel so embarrassed when it turns itself off. =-[

If you hold it up or down when turning, and you do what you're trying, it makes a HORRIBLE clicky crunchy sound, but stays on. I think something will break if you do that more than a few times though.

It's the only bad thing about the car... but I use it heaps. Does Japan have roundabouts? Or do they just not indicate?

you can take the steering wheel off and on the back of the wheel where it connects with the steering column there will be two little brass knobs abouts 3 - 4 mm long these are what catch on the indicator stalk and turn it off. if you get them off by cutting pulling etc... they wont ever turn off without you doing it. i find this was my solution because i ended up turning them on and off anyway because they kept turning themselves off

bloody indicators

Jim,

If you cut these brass knobs off, do you think its possible to glue/drill/weld the knobs in another position? This would be handy to know before I pull my steering wheel off.... I too am fustrated with round-about turns!

Yes the brass knobs can be adjusted however by moving one the other one also moves.

Does your indicator turn off early in both directions?

If not then by adjusting the brass knobs you can make the one that turns off early turn off later and the other indicator will turn off earlier.

Damn im getting confused trying to explain it.

oh god i hate it when they do that. living in my suburb is a pain since the council has put roundabouts every 50-100m on the bigger roads to stop speeding. i hold the stalk in position, especially when its a big roundabout where i have to turn left quite a bit before i go right. i just wince and deal with it every time it makes the crunch noise. factory s1 wheel.

can some one describe in better detail how i can move the knobs. are they adjustable or do i have to remove and replace them in different positions?

it happens in both directions..

so i don't think i can use this solution..cuz i'll be making 1 side normal and the other side even more infuriating.. damn i hate this problem....

Instead of holding the indicator on I just wait for it to turn off then i turn it back on again, thats if i cant go as far left as possible before turning the indicator. This happened in my 32 and again in my 34. It is annoying but i got over it...

ive been to japan twice now and spend just under 10 weeks total there and not once saw a round-a-bout. the roads are a better layout compared to ours though. there is more people living in tokyo then australia so i reckon they need better transport then here!
