Hi,

writing this on behalf of a mate, yesterday he had a compression test done on his series 1 RB25det and all cylinders were roughly 150 except number 2 which was 65.

Question is it cheaper to rebuild or more economical to source a 2nd hand engine.

Any reccomended places in brisbane for either the rebuild or engine swap.

cheers

Simply, Rebuild it dude.

Had the same problem with my rb25...what ull find is a second hand engine with a limited warranty will set you back at least 2.5k and u just dont know what your getting :S

Rebuild it with decent parts and have yourself a quality engine :)

You have 3 options

buy a second hand piston, and a new ring- hone the bore(probably worth putting in new big ends as well) and slap it together with new head gasket prob cost you $300(only worthwhile if you do the labour yourself).

or low km import engine cost $2000 plus couple of days work.(less work than repairing old engine)

best and most expensive option is complete rebuild with stronger internals(dont bother rebuilding standard as it costs only slightly less). cost $3000+

oh and ask why did the engine fail?? faulty injector? too much boost?

maybe too much bouncing off the rev limiter with a faulty injector?

Alot of people do mods without anysort of tuning afterwards and drive around thinking it will be ok...only to find out later somethings gone or going.

1000 for acl forged pistons with gudgeons/rings

300 for metal headgasket

150 for bore/hone

150 for new bearings big and small

100 deck block and head

Do it yourself labourspec...all up about 1700...there could be more things that you might do while at it....eg welsh plugs, maybe some hoses or lines that need replacing...could add up to 2k.

If he has low comp in one bore he doesnt have a f**ked bottom end.

Bro what you need to do is sort out what parts you want and get them yourself at the best price possible. Look up nengun.com for gaskets and what not. You will need new bearings and big ends, ACL are decent. Look for forged pistons imo, ARIAS i know of are decent again...just do your research before you take the plunge.

It took me about 3 weeks of shopping around and what not to find out wat was best and most cost effective

PM me if u wanna know anything more.
