When you do buy stuff, make sure you have a good strategy for getting it home. Don't listen to the people who say that the airline checkin won't ping you for being overweight. Organise some type of freight beforehand if you can't fit it into your suitcase and within the weight limit. I speak from experience here, where the last time I was over there I went a bit overboard - by 8 kilos and the penalty would have been about the same as another ticket.

yeah. my gf and i have worked out what we will do next time - we'll get a shipping/freight crate of some kind. it's not much more expensive than posting parcels back.

there is just too much good stuff to buy in japan to be worried about being able to cart it back.
