Indy 500

Well, after seeing that huge crash of Mario Andretti's...I thought I'd look up when the Indianapolis 500 is actually on this year...

found out it's the 25th May, so I looked up the RPM site to find out what time Ch10 were broadcasting it...and it's not there!!????

now I know they don't show the IRL (the other rounds), but I'm sure they always used to show the Indy 500???

anyway, just a bit disappointed, that's all

Apparantly It is being shown live 1:45am (Monday) delayed in the West tho

10 has the rights to show all IRL races, shame they don't

Whats the go with those cars over there?? Is there two different types of Indy car comps?? I remember once hearing that some people from Champ cars were going to race in a different comp, would that have been the IRL that you mentioned shell??

Can someone please explain it to me

Not sure about it being on Channel 10 but ESPN on Foxtel have it. Channel 10 do show the Champ cars though.

Yeah there are two comps - Champ and IRL as IRL was formed when CART couldn't reach agreement with the organisers of the Indy 500 and wouldn't let them race there. Some drivers then split from CART and set up IRL in competition (looks like most of the top drivers from a few years ago are in IRL). From what I have seen IRL is mainly oval track racing including the Indy 500.

yeah weetbix, Champ Cars and the IRL are two different series...they were one thing years and years ago, but they had a big split.

Champ Cars travel all over the place, but IRL seem to stick mainly to the oval circuits in the US.

They let Champ Car teams race at the Indy 500 though (even though it's part of the IRL)....Montoya won it a few years back even though he was driving in the Champ Car series...and Castro-Neves won it last year and the year before (he has since moved from Champ Car to IRL).

gtr69...yep I found out they are showing it...staying up to watch it right now - they mentioned it on RPM last Sunday. Still wasn't on their site or in any of the TV guides though, dunno why

Another factor which some teams jumped over to IRL is the cost of running cars. IRL are smaller and chearper to run. Sponsorship is harder to find in these ecomonic conditions.

I will be up in Surfers again this year. Last year was the best. Sat right on the starting line and got to see that HUGE pile up. The down side was sitting in the rain that whole time though.

My camera got a HUGE workout that weekend.

well it was a pretty good race...a few crashes...including one guy (Dan Wheldon?) flipping and landing upside down...looked worse that it was apparently.

was a pity to see Scott Dixon smack into the wall and wreck his suspension while warming the tyres under yellow...gotta be a bit embarrassing to crash like that haha.

I would have liked to see Castroneves win, cos i like him Also cos it would have been 3 in a row for him and a record....

but 2nd is not too bad...and he did his usual trick (of climbing the fence) and got race winner de ferran up there with him (see pic)
