hello fellas just was contemplating buying a gtr intercooler off an r32 i think its from. would i be able to get the pipes done for under $400

i live in sydney and am after a reputable shop to do it

also if possible id like to keep the standard cooler pipes and NOT have to cut into my engine bay so would it be too much of a hassle to get pipes made up like that ???

OR i could go for the jj 400 dollar job but the gtr ones are black (which id rather) and the jj ones u have to cut into engine bay which is dont like

ok the GTR coolers are a far higher quality design in core end tanks flow and everything. but u can get a full kit from just jap for 345. to be honest i would just go with just jap.. less mucking around.

look at the last few post times.

EDIT:also i think either the blitz pipping kit or Trust kit uses factory holes. but u pay out of ur ass for them kits.

just jap. u cut on hole under the battery trays. and save urself hundreds

Id rather use standard returns if i could also for the fact if its set up right you can save yourself alot of piping which is going to have a good impact on spool time. If the plenum was front facing there wouldnt be this problem but with the standard plenum its alot better to utilise the standard return if you can. Especially if your only running the standard turbo.

yeah i dont want to cut the car... my last car was bodgy i want to keep this one in good nick lol

i dont know how the whole system works but its already got a side mount cooler so id guess its just a matter of extending those pipes to suit a front mount? or i could be guessing wrong

yeah.. thats if u can but sounds like u might be on a budget or u would have gone straight for a jap rand cooler kit so go the just jap or equivalent. and be done with it.

ther isnt realy too much difference in the stock pipping position and the over the radiator ones. nearly same length or piping.

the main difference is cutting a hole in the engine bay and also possibly trimming fan blades to suit the piping which is 2 things i dont want to do

i am on a budget its either i get this setup or a just jap one for under 500 or wait 6months or more to get a blitz lm kit but from what ive read and the kw im aiming for(300rwkw max), no use getting brand name ones

I think 300rwkw is going to be hard to do on a budget!

Still, the kits that come with all the return piping sounds like the best bet. I'm still tossing this idea up myself, as I REALLY don't want to cut a hole in the car and start hacking parts of my cooling system. For now, i'm running the R34 GTT cooler in place of the stock cooler.

I know what you mean about the GTR cooler being black, but a couple of thin coats of paint will make an aftermarket cooler look pretty stealth. Apparently 1-2 coats makes squat all difference to the surface's heat-transferring capabilities. Seems the best solution for what your requirements are.

if u go for a just jap intercooler kit, i have to trim the little rubber knob on the aircon fan....as for triming the fan blades, is something i did not have to do...as i mate a bracket out of scrap metal so the pipe would clear the blades, even undo hi enine load, still cleared...was happy i didnt have to bash the pipe in or cut blades....just jap coolers are decent enough, expesially if your aiming for 300rwkw, many years down the track

My R33 is pretty clean and I don't have a problem cutting (hole sawing) to get the pipe out on the off side .

Nissan obviously didn't have a problem getting out to the std side mount intercooler .

GTR intercoolers work well because the collectors are not a haphazard way of welding the pipes to the core . Aftermarket intercoolers with tall shallow end tanks I reckon render probably 1/3 of the core useless because air at any speed won't want to know about going sideways into the tubes . If it does you are going to get pressure rises in areas you don't want which will cause flow restriction . When you look at propper high performance intercoolers like in GTR's/Evolution Lancers/Porsches etc the manufactures have gone to some trouble to make the end tanks/collectors work . Also they don't dick around with bar and plate or thick tube pooeyville type cores . They tend to use more and thinner tubes that truck cores probaby to increase the cores thermal mass .

I'm going with the one Nissan used on their super car of its era .
