- airbag wheel replaced with a "momo" non-airbag wheel, or (not so bad) a S1 stock wheel replaced with an S2 stock wheel or vice-versa (still functional, but indicates a prior crash).

- cracked coil packs causing hesitation around 4-5000RPM. Could be masked (pun intended) by taping them up with leccy tape, or covering in epoxy.

- faulty/locked/removed HICAS. Might be hidden by a blown or removed HICAS dash light. NOTE: you may actually prefer no HICAS, but i like mine the way it came from the factory

- notchy gearbox. I drove 3 back to back on the day i found mine and all GBs felt different.

- xenon headlights. these would technically be a bonus, but they are not meant to be on there. They should have been removed at compliance time. You take the risk of the legalities if the car still has them.

- rear speakers not functional - this is normal, as the compliance puts big ass baby seat bolts through the cones of the back speakers

- watch out for any that have too much boost on the stock turbo. The stockie can't handle much more than it came out factory with.

Coil-packs die for no reason, not crack related but batch related.

Gearbox solenoids can go on the autos with series 1's

Rust around the rear centre brake light

AAC valve can block and cause high revving

Interior is covered with crappy paint on the series 1's and is prone to marking and scratching off in our climate, series 2's just have black plastic.

I've seen very few with CAS and AFM problems, but it occurs

Sorry for the hijack but if dropping a deposit on a R34, and getting checks done after...if a issue is raised am i able to get the deposit back off the dealer?

Is there actual photo differences between the two series steering wheels available please?:laugh:

Dealers always produce a receipt for the deposit.

When person writing receipt of deposit, tell him to include that If the pre-inspection does not meet your needs then a full deposit will be returned. Could also say if you find any Major/Minor problems would like deposit back.

If you state anything like that on the receipt of the deposit then there shouldn't be any issues on getting deposit back.

Also, state for a 3 day cooling period. Every dealer must return full deposit in the first three days. I believe its a law which most dealers do not disclose to people as they will lose deposit.

Cheers

Cheers matey for that, at least now i can walk in with even more confidence

this depends on the state , in wa the dealer leagally has to give back the deposit , no questions , no writing anything on the contract

all r34s have a cermamic turbine wheel , some have a steel compresser wheel instead of a a nylon one . this is still totally useless though as the ceramic turbine wheel will still let go

if my r34 had a hicas lock bar that would definetly be a bonus , stock or not hicas is terrible

coils is definetly one to look for tho , very common on 34s

not to mention they come out in a series 1 and 2 wich is rarely mentioned, series 2 has different LSD not sure if its better or not and the turbo isnt ceramic like the series 1. I think the series 2 started in mid 2000 models

Is this true series 2 R34 turbo's are not ceramic??? Iwas under the impression all exhaust wheels were??

Cheers

It's a funny one, I've only seen 1 series 2 that had a steel exhaust wheel, the turbo was a slightly different Garrett unit and didn't say Nissan on it. Almost all other series 2's I've seen have the dodgy ceramic exhaust wheel.
