Reversing out of my garage this morning, I happened to notice some unusual fluid deposits on my otherwise spotless floor. Stop car ..... getting somewhat anxious ...... drag my quivering body around to the front of the car ..... down on hands and knees ....... bliush/green oily like susbstance of reasonably thick consistency sitting about where my gearbox would sit. Hmmmmmmm better do a fliuds check ...

Engine coolant overflow bottle normal? ........ check

Radiator coolant level normal? .......... check

Engine oil normal? ......... check (also no sign of water in oil)

Power Steering Fluid normal? ....... check

Brake fluid reservoir normal? ....... check

Clutch fluid reservoir normal? ....... check

Turbo coolant lines normal? ........ check

Diff housing normal? ....... check

So process of elimination is pointing to gearbox leak but I could be wrong. Car is too low to get a good look so off to the Auto doctors I go tomorrow. A sleepless night ahead! Bad dreams of bank manager refusing 4th mortgage for gearbox repairs.

Ahhhhhhh the joys of Skyline ownership.

lol, don't panic just yet ! If it is gearbox oil, it's prol from the extension housing seal ( that seals the output shaft to tailshaft or maybe even as simple as a gearshifter boot that's split. Either one will drop oil and both are not too expensive to fix :(

when you say oil... how much.

a few drops will be hard to notice by checking the the fluids etc.

your better off getting it onto a hoist and ruling things out that way.

Or, put a bit of cardboard under the car the night before, and pull it out in the morning.

I have a pretty fair idea as to where it maybe coming from just by looking at the colour and consistency (thickness) of the deposit.

Into the doctors today. Hmmmmmm (scheme-ing mind here says) it could be the turbo gone and I will need to upgrade to the latest and greatest from HKS/Garrett to ensure that it doesn't happen again ...... well that is what I will be telling "she who holds the purse strings" anyway.

Well fellas back from the Doctors minus one R34. Had to check it in for some surgery. FAT 34 had the correct diagnosis with a buggered seal. Left my baby there and the surgeons got straight to work ..... oh god it was messy ..... bleeding fluid everywhere ...... clutch plate coated in the gearbox fluid ...... new clutch plate required says the Head Honcho ...... thinking 5th mortgage here ....... mind rapidly races ...... how will I explain this to the "Treasurer" ...... another panic attack sets in and then resided just as quickly when I realize that bloody box I have been shifting around the garage for awhile now ........ Yes the one that says NISMO G-Max Twin Plate Clutch assembly ...... would solve the problem for me ....... Ohhh she will be happy indeed .... another box gone from the garage! And can fit the Nismo Stainless Steel hose line while it is under the anesthetic!

sounds like fluid leaking from clutch master cylinder line,like mine . lol. or brake master cylinder.

mines got a leak from a little hydrolic hose from the clutch mech to gear box . pissy little hose will cost $140 approx . get someone to sit in the car and depress the clutch pedal and look for leakage around the little blo#$y hose. obviously a manualgear box. another thing to check is the fluid level in the booster's reservoir

Not good :)

But while you are in the area, make sure you replace your rear main seal ( the one on the back of the crankshaft ) !

If you want a really driveable twin plate I can recommend the new O.S.Giken twin set-up. I had a STR2CD in my 32 and it was live a stocker to use and only got a bit bighty when it got really warm. About $2,100 for the complete set-up. But if you can stretch right out there, go the twin plate carbon setup by O.S.Giken. Friggen awesome to use ! Otherwise, go with Jim Berry for a much less expensive option :P

Anyway, you better start sucking up to the treasurer ( HARD ) :cheers:

When the surgeons opened my baby up they found that the seal was still good and that all the fluid that had liberally coated the externals was coming out of the breather. Seems that my super expensive Redline gearbox oil has somehow emulsified?????. (Hmmmm I wonder if I can get a transmission cooler out of this) Of course clutch plate is gone so the Nismo Twin Plate went in and it is not functioing as it should. That is, it is extremely difficult to select a gear so the box has to come out again (more expense) :) Would anyone know if you need to upgrade any other components when installing a Twin Plate? (Like the slave cylinder perhaps?)

Now, even "IF" you the gearox oil did blow out the breather, it should never have been able to get into the bell housing itself ! It might cover it but should not have got in.

As for the clutch not working, my quick guess is that you might have the wrong release bearing carrier to suit that clutch.

Yeah I find it a bit suss as well but not being a mechanic or industrial chemist, I am at their mercy. I must admit that the Redline has not given any problems up to this point (Also includes a couple of Wakefield track days when I was down that way). The bearing came with the clutch assembly so once again I can only surmise that it is the correct one.

I have not personally sighted the original clutch but will ask for it when I am in there this arvo.

Hmmmm question now is to rebuild the Nismo and make it work or go for an Exedy Hyper single which is what Nismo use anyway ..........

Well fellas it's all good as my baby is now home with twin plate installed. Certainly a different driving expereience. Old clutch plate had very little wear left on it but as you suggested FAT34, it was not cotaminated in any way so the problem remains with the oil blowing out the breather in emulsified form. Dollarwise ....... $600 all up. Good or bad I don't know but it's roughly what I expected after getting done to the tune of 370.00 by another outfit just for a routine service and brake fluid replacement AND I supplied all the consumables! Plugs/Oil/filters/brake fluid etc!

    • A bit late but A disk S13P fit over stock R32 GTR brakes, usually A disk front, O disk rear works.

    • Yes, there's quite a few things that can go wrong during a clutch install. Very unlikely. I have a similar clutch. They (ACS) make good gear. No, it is not normal. It is possible that you just need to bleed the clutch slave. But the new clutch will also have a more aggressive actuation force/pressure, and so your old slave cylinder might be a bit leaky or otherwise compromised, and not up to the extra force required. Or the master cylinder, same.
    • Hi...so a "development" here aswell The swap is "done" and car went "test drive" BUT it seems the clutch(maybe gearbox?) is a little bit sad? I bought this clutch kit https://justjap.com/products/xtreme-heavy-duty-organic-clutch-flywheel-kit-nissan-skyline-r31-r32-r33-push-type "Problem" is that the first gear is hard to put into and it seems that the clutch is not disengaged. It was not the problem with the old clutch...(or like sometime the first gear would not get as easy specialy when the fluid was cold) So? Can it be like...bad "install" or is the clutch wrong ((it should not have been) i done research to get the right one) Or is this "normal" with new clutch and needs to be break in?
