"PS has anyone still not got an engine built nor wired up, tuned or run in?

The HEAT is on! "

very very harsh.

both our cars are turbo naked at the moment, we're in deep shit seems to me...late nights ahead

Hi guys, just lettin you know we've decided to pull out of the Suncoast Classic.

We've had a look at some stages, and I honestly reckon that there'll be some carnage. Lots of fast straights into blind, over-crest off camber stuff. Not that it should really pose a problem, but I feel that with only 200 competetive k's, it'll only take one or two stages to be downgraded and we'll lose a good chunk of that.

And Duncan, that new sticker job's lookin fancy mate! ;)

Progress from last night, engine is in the car. but not after a few drama's, many snapped bolts, incorrectly torqued bolts (came down to machine shop incorrectly advising)... swear words aplenty! (this was all after the block had to go back to machine shop for line boreing and crank machining, and after a ring broke fitting and taking 2 days to get replacement!)

Oh and it gets better, a new loom was to go in, but the wrong one was ordered, so its time to play piece the loom back together.

Dump pipe wouldn't bolt up to turbo for some strange reason, still gotta build exhaust, plumb it all up and get it ready for pre-scrutineering on monday!

To further impede us this weekend is thrown out with round one of the Tas Drift series and Round nine of super sedans on saturday, and round 2 of the Tassie Super Sprints sunday.

I see another late night tonight

The HEAT is on!

Ummm, I need to clean my race boots and polish my helmet still?

I'm staying well away from TYims workshop, picked up some stuff the other day.... they are seriously behind.

The red car of other brand... well if I can just get the thing to boost over one bar... I'll polish it.

Target to have parked by Sunday week ready to roll

TT 984

good to hear others are struggling as well, that makes me feel better....

BTW thats not a sticker that is paint....stickers arrive next week....better:

put the tubros back

put the zorst (and cut to fir a bloody cat)

tune it

before then

What ECU you running in your red traitor car

Went the Autronic path Ben, and really happy with the outcome. Has Autotune, and with no 4wd dynos in Launceston that is a bonus.

And unlike some other high end ecu's it comes with all the fruit...

Anti-Lag, Launch control, boost control are all catered for using oem senors.

Logging and all the other nice things too.

But they just need a bit of caressing to get the boost tables sorted. Will have a break tomorrow & saturday to do a couple of recce days... Finish it off to 90% Sunday then ot to Symmons next week for final high load stuff.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hope all is well with everyone's cars!?

Just dropping in to wish you all the best of luck as I'm heading down to Tassie on Wednesday 11th early, and may not get a chance prior. Wednesday PM I'll be at White Hot in Devenport to say hi to the boys, then start recce Thursday early.

So folks, hope you have a great experience, stay safe, and hope that we ALL see eachother crossing the final finish line with big smiles!

Hope to catch up with you down there. :-D

Ben

We finished our recce today, 950k today, 800k sat, 800k fri. Now for the mega fun job of typing it all up.

Our car is getting stickered up this week, and is still missing a gearbox :stupid: , but on a good note, the suspention all finally fixed and aligned properly.

I'm touching wood as I say this, but we're almost sorted. Shtickers and tune still to go.

We'll be in town Sunday if anyone's keen/ has time for a catch up?

Not being a local, some suggestions of the where and when could be good!

Alternatively a mid/post event SAU get together could work? I'm thinking before might be better though?

We did some testing at baskerville on the weekend and ended with some pretty good results, a bit more of a tune required, but a few issues like ABS not working and stuff had us stuffed. hopefully they are fixed.

more importantly is hopefully our log book turns up this week and our CTP extension papers, otherwise we can't run!

a spare $2K wouldn't hurt either.

Hope all is well with everyone's cars!?

Prepare for a shock when you get there.... some new bits fitted!!!

TT

We bit the bullet today and dropped the gearbox out of dad's road GT-R. We're still waiting on the new front shaft to arrive. But the car is all tarted up on the outside now, and apparently it looks alright.

well we just finished the tuning on both cars and they are starting the long drive down tomorrow. Apart from a very late change from standard ecu to PFC (about 9pm tonight) everything looks like it will be driving ok.

schtickers still not finished but they are flying down on sunday - our schtickerer bloke fell though so we had to buy a machine yesterday and learn how to use the bloody thing....

Anyway....looks OK for now, so see ya'll down there - we are 832 and 811, you won't miss us

good luck to everyone :pwned:

    • Whoa, that's a name I've not see for a long time! Sorry to hear about the engine / turbo damage.  Fwiw with any engine problems it often really a case of just seeing what happens when it's apart, ymmv - I wouldn't rule out the possibility that the damage isn't even from the turbo failure, or possibly from a combination.  The airflow between cylinders isn't dead even, injectors can go off over time as well, with the turbos overboosting if you didn't have upgraded fuel system there could have possibly been a bit of leaning out - stock triggering is often a bit unreliable by this age too.  Basically its an old engine and a few things could have been going on, and you won't know how much work is needed until the engine is apart.
    • I'm just shocked there's a euro driver on our roads who is thinking of other road users and not attempting to blind everyone. I wonder if Prank uses his indicator too...
    • Its hard to tell really. The Q50 owner's forum talks about it a lot and has quite a few people directly affected, but no idea what % of cars sold actually had the block replaced. Also, there seem to be 2 distinct issues which both get diagnosed by Infiniti as requiring a block replacement (no wonder they are going broke) 1. "Porous block" where coolant mixes with oil through thin or poorly cast parts of the block 2. Head coolant gallery plugs not sealing. If I was noticing engine coolant loss I'd start with cooling system pressure test (as always) and then I'd pull the cam covers and reseal the coolant gallery plugs on both side before worrying about a potentially porous block.  If neither of those did the trick it would be put in a second hand engine out of japan; I haven't checked pricing but I'm sure there are plenty around by now as they've been in production 10+ years
    • To clarify what I posted above, I thought you both had a situation where it cancelled sooner one way than the other.....if it is reasonably even where it cancels in either direction that is probably normal (consider gentle movements like lane changes, you don't want it to need half a turn of lock to turn the indicators off)
    • Son, in this country, that is a piece of Gyprock. f**king drywall. FFS! I also like the autocorrect of trailer to tablet. I was reading it and thing, "what the hell drugs is he on?" Then the photo made it clear enough.
