Hey all,

Had a service done by Gavin Wood's Auto Tech on the Goldie.

Found out that one bolt on the exhaust manifold has been stripped.

Was also told that eventually the others will follow.

I'm thinking, would it be better to replace the exhuast manifold with an aftermarket item whilst the bolt is being removed? Or should i stick with the stock manifold?

Any advice would be great!

Thanks in advance :)

Keep the stocker.

Manifold studs breaking is one of the most common problems.

If you only want 250rwkw (which is hi-flow terriroty) then the stocker is more than adequate.

Might aswell change all the studs while you are there mate.

you must replace the gasket.

also, do all the studs. otherwise you're just asking for more to break, they are 15 year old anyway!

I'd just use standard nissan studs. it will be another 10-15 years before you have problems again so don't obsess over which ones to use.

If you have to get a gasket [and that won't be from your local corner mechanic] then you may as well get the studs as well, try somebody like Just Jap or Kamikaze etc, from memory studs and gasket around $100 or a bit less.

im in the same boat...dropped the car off yesterday and the spotted the dud nuts straight away. im getting all replaced as well as my rocker cover gasket which was leaking...sigh. my clutch is supposedly slipping on the dyno so im in for a new clutch too. ah wells.

if you're really keen for a manifold upgrade, you might want to research up getting the stocker "extrude honed". they basically force through a gritty clay-like material through the manifold and this cleanes up the inside for more laminar flow. apparently very effective so i've been told

cheers,

Warren
