Front Head Light

Hey guys,

I remember seeing a thread on these forums based around my problem but i cant seem to find it anymore, so i thought id ask :whistling:.

Anyways only one of my front headlights work and ive heard its a problem alot of skylines have, but the light does come on if i drive it abit harder, i dont know what that has to do with anything but yeh... Normally the only light on is the right light and the left one is off. I was thinking of taking this to a normal auto sparky but just before I do, I just want to know if this may possibly be an easy fix.

Thanks for any help guys!

I had same problem a few months back, turned out that a small amount of moisture had got into the globe housing section and some corrosion had formed causing low/no charge! Simple fix cleaned out housing chucked globe back in and all good! No probs since!

if you turn your lights on slowly you can actually turn 1 of first and then the other comes on if you keep turning...

anyway my point is... sometimes the part inside the switch gets dirty or breaks or whatever... mate of mine had to get a new indicator rod thing... hahah oh god all my car terms have left me, havent spoken on here in a while

ps. hey dan whatsup bro

Same thing has been happening to me lately. First time it happened I was joking around with mates and gave it a decent hit and it came on.

If you give it a soft hit you can see it faintly flash blue like its trying to light up... give it a decent belting and it lights up.

For $200 HID's seem like a better option than headlight abuse :)

I'd be going with the switch, I had the same thing happen (except the whole thing was gone, ie: no headlights at all and no rear parkers), it's a pretty common thing. Also check the fuse, I've had that happen too (there is one fuse for each headlight)

  • 6 months later...

Sorry for digging up an oldish thread, but the problem directly relates to what i have right now.

Left headlight doesn't seem to be working, if i high-beam it it's fine, and there is nothing wrong with the globe. Took it to Kings Park Auto Electrics (someone on here mentioned it, being reasonable rates, etc etc) and they said it was something to do with the 'connector', and it'll cost $400 and have to get it shipped from over east.

Is this about right or should i get it checked elsewhere? if the latter, any suggestions? I'm picking the car up this afternoon for an unrelated minor fixup...

I had the same problem, left low beam was going out. Took it to my mechanic mate, we put new globes in all on both sides then modified the low beam holders slightly. Basically just bent out the contact so it gripped the globe better and it was all sweet. He charged me $20 for all the globes.

    • There are fixes for this. In industry we use compressed air for everything. It is frequently wet, and many things cannot tolerate it. So there are various forms of driers available that you can install. The simplest option for something like this would be a dessicant drier. Much cheaper to replace some silica gel than actuator cylinders.
    • That's a solid update mate, well done at WA FOS. You may already know this, but the actuators on the paddle shift are a service item and are sadly not that reliable. As I understand it they collect water from the compressor (condensation) which then rusts the bores/pistons in the actuators. A mate of mine had no end of trouble with them in one if his circuit cars, apparently it's a 'known issue'. Buy a couple of spares at great expense to ensure you never have any problems with the ones you've got! Any clues about what the new WTAC rules might be? While faster cars are cool the Pro class arms race has got to the point where you wouldn't even bother entering without a $1m budget and even then I don't think you'd win.

You can see another picture of it here: https://www.alltranz.com.au/shop/drivetrain/automatic-transmission/RE5R01A/product/9305/ The 4 speed automatic in the GTT is Nissan corporate stuff. You can search up similar jobs done on a Frontier or Pathfinder with a RE4R01B to get an idea for what the internals are going to look like and the procedure like this:
    • Hi Chris,   long time since your post, just wondering if you have the Pinout for the v35 stereo plugs, I bought the roem nis2 harness but it doesn’t match the v35 connector. any help appreciated, I can work out the grn and power constant. But the rest might be hard. thanks Tyson
