I need someone to check out a 5 speed  Mr30 l24eT for me in canberra.

i escpext this person to be able to drive ( as this car has angry bits)

Photos and test drive essential.

Please reply here!

EDIT:

this guy is a young mechanic and he bought it from an older guy who said the engin is an import from japan.

the head casting is a N47, which is a 84 onwards standard aussie head isnt it?

im just thingking maybe he told the young guy that or maybe it actually was modified in japan then shipped here....

so basically the question is, is there such thing?

i'd try to get the ID off the block to confirm L24 first, if the car is an import get that info, there were NO turbo aus built factory cars offered so it would have had to have been imported or built here in oz...compliance is what you want to see....

My accountant has an R30 with L24et. It has no Aus compliance plate.

there are 2 plates involved here, the importing compliance plate that would say the car came over with such and such an engine or the Mod compliance plate to say the engine has been turbo'd and engineered to aus standards. the mod plate is a hit and miss thing though....with out it it might make it hard to register in another state...

was your accountants car factory built or workshop/backyard built?

There are factory released l24et's. Check with the nissan's listings. Quite intresting.

the car is an 1984 Aussie Ti, would of origionally had a L24e.

The ENGINE is said to be an import.

sorry for the confusion.

where do i check for nissans listings? i cant find any info at all!

the head is def. a n47

Is there much difference between a n42 and n47? there is a rebuilt n42 on ebay for $40... would it have a lower compression ratio???

thanks for the help so far!

you learn something new every day....

i've never read anything that has listed an L24et version r30, does it give a model # or was it a special release?

I've never seen anything mentioning an L24ET in any production car . I think some were screwed together for American race classes , not certain but wasn't IMSA GTU an under 2.5L capacity class ? From what I've read only the L20A and L28 had a production turbo option . Also I'm not aware of the L24E being std to anything but an MR30 .

Will look into this , cheers A .

Look in WIKI-NISSAN, go to engines.

Go talk to nissan them-selfs. Dont run off or relly 100% on internet information. According to City Nissan parts department here in wellington, They have a listing for a factory l24et.

This car has only the factory plate and no evidence of any other plate being fitted,

There were plenty of R30 with turbo motors, but nowhere can I find any evidence of an L24et. There was an L24S. And there were cars shipped to NZ that were hybrids They were not available in Aus. because of the "Supercar" controversy. And may have been specials, such as Autech etc.

I'll keep looking.

Not anywhere I can find.

The first EFI L24 surfaced in what we know as a C211 in 80/81

My sources tell me in Japan's R30's the only engines were; Z18, L20B, FJ20E, L20E and L20ET and later in the DR RSX came the FJ20ET & DET. It is my understanding the only L24E's went to Australia as Skylines and USA as Maxima's. The M30 Infinity using a VG30E engine. A diesel LD28 version was produced for South Africa & Middle East.

But alas, as SteveL says, No L24ET! No such potato ex anywhere Nissan.

    • Have you not seen geospy.ai? It can now give GPS co ords to within a metre from a photo, even if it's a random photo you take inside. Supposedly at the moment only the government/law enforcement has access to that... Supposedly...
    • I've got the rear ones, they're certainly beefy. I need to take them to my driveshaft guru to check over, he's very fussy about the quality of components so I'll let you know if they are made of cheese by a blind man.   Are you in Australia? A mate just had a set of EN26 shafts made for his K20 Lotus by our fabricator which were quite cheap (compared to Driveshaft Shop) so if you can procure the CV's and draw what you need he'd make them for ~$800 for the pair.
    • Had I known the diff between R32 and R33 suspension I would have R33 suspension. That ship has sailed so I'm doing my best to replicate a drop spindle without spending $4k on a Billet one.
    • OEM suspension starts to bind as soon as the car gets away from stock height. I locked in the caster and camber before cutting off the kingpin. I then let the upright down in a natural (unbound) state before re-attaching it. Now it moves freely in bump and droop relative to the new ride height. My plan is to add GKTech arms before the car is finished so I can dial camber and caster further. It will be fine. This isn't rocket science. Caster looks good, camber is good, upper arm doesn't cause crazy gain and it is now closer to the stock angle and bump steer checks out. Send it.
    • Pay careful attention to the kinematics of that upper arm. The bloody things don't work properly even on a normal stock height R32. Nissan really screwed the pooch on that one. The fixes have included changing the hole locations on the bracket to change the angle of the inner pivot (which was fairly successful but usually makes it impossible to install or remove the arm without unbolting the bracket from the tower, which sucks) and various swivelling upper arm designs. ALL the swivelling upper arm designs that look like a capital I (with serifs) suck. All of them. Some of them are in fact terribly unsafe. Even the best one of them (the old UAS design) shat itself in short order on my car. The only upper arm that works as advertised and is pretty safe is the GKTech one. But it is high maintenance on a street car. I'm guessing that a 600HP car as (stupidly, IMO) low as you are going is not going to be a regular driver. So the maintenance issues on suspension parts are probably not going to be a problem. But you really must make sure that however your fairly drastically modded suspension ends up, that the upper arms swing through an arc that wants to keep the inner and outer bolts parallel. If the outer end travels through an arc that makes that end's bolt want to skew away from parallel with the inner bolt, you will build up enormous binding and compressing forces in the bushes, chew them out and hate life. The suspension compliance can actually be dominated by the bush binding, not the spring rate! It may be the case that even something like the GKTech arm won't work if your suspension kinematics become too weird, courtesy of all the cut and shut going on. Although you at least say there's no binding now, so maybe you're OK. Seeing as you're in the build phase, you could consider using R33/4 type upper arms (either that actual arm, OEM or aftermarket) or any similar wishbone designed to suit your available space, so alleviate the silliness of the R32 design. Then you can locate your inner pivots to provide the correct kinematics (camber gain on compression, etc).
