Okay Heres Goes, sorry for delay, personal reasons

10th Feb 2007

Meet Hungry Jacks Westpoint, Browns Plains. Along Browns Plains road opposite Grand Plaza Shopping Centre at 8am (yes early).

Leaving 8:30am (may stick around a bit longer to make sure everybody has made it).

Heading along the motorway towards Ipswich and then to the Track. Should arrive sometime after 9am (upto 10am).

I called Debbie as per WiZardOz's advice (Cheers for that!).

We are most welcomed, lets try get a decent number turn up!

Covered shoes are the only requirement, but I suggest hats, sunscreen, decent clothing and some water. I'd also suggest some cash for things such as toll and other drinks/food.

My Mobile is 0433621708 if anybody needs anything drastic. Currently I'm playing a lone warrior, so if anybody needs a ride, you could grab a bus to Grand Plaza.

To get to Browns Plains you can either take Beaudesert road south/west or Take the Logan Motorway and take the Beaudesert Road exit. If you have any issues I know the area like the back of my hand and feel free to call me!

Hope to see everybody bright and early, and we have a great day!

Cheers,

Ben

I believe it's 9am as their site doesn't say a time, but that appears to be the general time they open.

Cost: Like the best things in life, totally free. But I'd suggest some cash for food or drinks.

I see it as a more affordable way to get into motorsport until I am finished uni. Bad enough owning a skyline, let alone racing one :)

If it's through the Ipswitch Kart club...you will proberly be using 2-stroke karts. It's a way to allow people to try out AKA approved race karts and give them the bug to race!! It's a good idea I reckon cause 4-stroke karts are no comparison to a proper 2-stroke....

Topkart, I saw you post in the motorsport section (I was poking around in there ;)). Wasn't sure who was a QLD'er to ask about such things :P

Yeah, I believe they are 2 stroke, so should be good. My dad has been talking about go-karts for years, saying I should do that instead of playing with my car. After finally listening (damn kids these days), I see what he means, lots of fun and without the same level of cost.

When it gets a bit closer and I get an idea of how many are coming, I'll organise a pre-meet up point and time etc...

If anything you need to know....just let me know as been in karting for about 10yrs and only too happy to help.

Once you get in one at full speed, you will soon realise they are way more addictive than Cars.....(sad but true) Karts range in power from 9Hp (Yamaha 100 J) 15Hp (Yamaha 100 S) and 28Hp (rotax 125) Unfortunatly my rotax has had to go up for sale ;) but soon as my debt cleared, will have to get another one as the racing bug is way too addictive for me. Here's a link so you can compare what a Rotax looks like compared to a Yamaha air cooled motor http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...howtopic=147699

Definatly worth taking up the opportunity to have a go up at Ipswitch as this is a good way to see what the sport is really about compared to hiring karts elsewhere.

I attended a corp. get together at the kingston park race way... terrible place but I haven't let it get in my way of the sport.

I was reading about those superkarts... they are just insane! 300km/h on a track... in such a tiny little kart. I believe it was the Philip Island track... It's just... crazy!

I have to say, once you experience a real kart there is no way you will ever want to go within a few km of a hire kart again!

Gets expensive though, even in the slow classes.

Topkart - What type of J makes 9hp and S makes 15hp  really :glare:

My old clubman S made 15.5hp back in it's day.....you gotta get the old crankcases, barrel & head which dissipate heat better.

Perhaps J's make more....didn't really care too much for them as they were always a bastard to start!! lol

Yeah wouldnt mine a go at a clubby. Will have to hassle some of the guys in my club for a run.

My j is a bit lethargic at best when starting! Will see how much power it actually makes tomorrow when I got it back from the engine builder.

Just turn up, nothing to book. They are trying to encourage people to join the sport.

You're all welcome to come. I'm working on a meet up point (I'm going to get a ok from businesses/security as to avoid issues).

I'll update my first post to a "What: Where: Time: What to Bring:" type setup over the next week.

I look forward to a great day. I'm going to call the club and double check such a large group of us together is okay, though I think they'd be happy to have us >_<

    • Absolutely! I've been in love with them since I was a kid. I remember doing a school essay on Humvee's back in grade 5 haha. I always wanted one, but didn't have the space nor the funds. With us now looking for another larger home with a larger garage, I'll have room to park it. They have also gone down considerably in price. The US army has been phasing out Humvee's, so they're flooding the market which also brings down H1 prices.  It shouldn't be a problem to drive around here, I live in the suburbs. I would absolutely not buy one if I lived in a city though. They are known to be terribly unreliable. People often swap out the original 6.2/6.5L for a more reliable Duramax.  H1 and Humvee's are identical, minus the fact that the H1 has a dash and seats. It sadly also makes the H1 more expensive. I've driven both and the Humvee interior, or lack thereof makes it extremely loud and unpleasant to drive. Don't get me wrong, the H1's interior is horrendous, but at least it's present. Most do a custom interior in a Humvee which I'm also more than happy to purchase.
